PLEASE HELP! Audio issues with OTA shows

I am beyond confused. I have Comcast limited basic cable running into a Samsung LN40A550 LCD tv. About two weeks ago I started having audio issues. I listen to the audio through the optical out, into a yamaha receiver. My issues are with the HD OTA channels, primarily 2-1, or ABC. It works fine all day, after the evening news, the audio turns to just bass. I can hear it on the other OTA channels as well, but the others at least have some treble. On ABC, you cannot hear any dialog. The evening news is in HD, but works fine. Another weird thing, if I turn on the TV speaker, the treble comes through it. Just not from the receiver. Unfortunately, the TV audio is horrible, why I am going throught the receiver.
Does any one have any ideas? I have spent hours searching online for an answer, with no luck.
PLEASE HELP ME!!! I need my audio for the final episodes of Lost!

I don't know what the problem is but, I'd start by checking the connections, to and from, your center channel speaker. (If the connections are hard to reach, you may have to put that shield down for a couple of minutes.) Then check the receiver's settings for the center channel.

Also, be sure you don't have the receiver set for any sort of "Phantom Center Channel" mode, which would just "fake" a center channel from the left and right stereo-only channels.News is usually stereo, and would make a fake center from the nearly mono audio.
True surround often has no dialog "leaked" in to the left/right (it's all in the center, "Dialog" channel) so there's nothing there to fake to the center.

I think I got it. Thank you guys so much. I was going at this with the complete wrong approach, thinking it was my signal not my receiver settings.
I really, really appreciate it!
