Here is my situation. I was planning on using the PS3 as a 3D Blu Ray player. Then, I find out that if I use the PS3 for 3D Blu Rays, I get the 3D, but I don't get lossless audio at the same time. I'm going to need one of those anyways for use with the PS3 and 3D PS3 games with lossless sound like Wipeout HD and Super Stardust HD.

If you check around you will find info supporting that there is no audible difference between the lossy Dolby and DTS on blu-ray(the DTS is 1.5mbts) and the lossless codecs. On the other hand, my 3D blu-ray player + a splitter(repeater), cost me a total of $ 215.

So, you're using a splitter(repeater) with a 3D BD player? Which splitter and which player? I'm assuming your AVR is 1.3 and not 3D compatible, and you're using the splitter to get hdmi audio to your receiver, while the 3D video signal is going to the TV directly.

Any extra info you can provide would be greatly appreciated, because I'm thinking of going the same route.

Best splitter is sold @ mono price .com, around $60' have been using for a year successfully with good failure replacement policy.

I bought it from one of the secondary sellers for $40 + $5.50 shipping. I bought a Sony bdp-s470 for $169. I'm using the splitter on my cable box because my 1.4 receiver doesn't play nice with it.

Yes. Any 2X BD-ROM reader is fast enough for 3D Blu-ray. The model you linked to is listed as 4X so with TMT or PDVD you can use it for 3D Blu-ray.

Blu-ray 3D discs read at twice the speed of standard discs. Beyond needing to read at 2X there is no other requirement for a drive to be able to play Blu-ray 3D

Vizio will be releasing a 3D BD player, model # VBR333

It will have wireless connectivity. Other details (including pricing and availability) are still to be determined.

Anyone here have any experience with the LG BX580?

I'm looking at it for my 3D BD player, with the free IMAX Deep Sea 3D Blu-ray DVD offer, which is selling by itself at upwards of $100 (plus in some cases) on fleabay, I'd consider the player a decent buy at $185.

It seems like it has all the features, aside from the dual HDMI outputs (not important to me)....is there anything it's missing vs other 3D BD players?

Vizio has announced two 3D BD players:

Models VBR333 and VBR334 feature built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and a host of apps services, including Netflix, Vudu, Pandora and others.

They are MSRP'd at $189 each. No idea what the difference between the wto models

I want to give 3D a try and with Black Friday / Cyber Monday coming up, I'm considering my hardware options. I have a 2007 Samsung DLP that requires checkerboard 3D. The cheapest way to go would be to add a Panasonic DMP-BDT100, though I would prefer the 300 if I can get one for a good price. My question is, any idea if these players would be able to handle a 3D stream from Netflix, Hulu, etc.? I have have a PS3, but to use it I'd need a hardware adapter since it doesn't output checkerboard 3D. The adapter is $100 more than BDT100. Any thoughts on the subject?

I just posted a similar question to this! Hopefully the receiver won't complain as it's from the same year (so NO 3D). But then again checkerboard I think doesn't need the extras that the full 3D spec in new 3D compliant TVs.

I asked both Netflix and Hulu if they had plans to stream 3D. Netflix didn't answer, but Hulu said it was unlikely in the next 3 or 4 years due to the high bandwidth requirement. Vudu would be another possibility and I'll see what they have to say. For now, I still have no idea which road to take, PS3 with checkerboard converter or BDT300. Since my receiver isn't hdmi 1.4 compliant, the BDT300's dual hdmi ports would be the best choice (if I go the BR DVD player route). I could send video to the TV using one one port, and audio to the receiver using the other. On the other hand, chances are, if any of the streaming content providers do start cranking out 3D, the PS3 will be the STB of choice.

I was at Brighton, MI Costco Sunday 11/28 and they did NOT have the 334.
I did buy a Sony BX57 and a Samsung C6800, wanting a 3D player for my family room, will return the Vizio VBR231 I have there now.
(my PS3 will handle the basement HT for 3D, in my sig)

fwiw, I have a Vizio combo in my 2nd floor bedroom and am very pleased with both of them, VIZIO’s M370NV 37” LED LCD HDTV and Vizio VBR231 Blu-ray .

Now, I went to Costco Wed 12/1 to buy some other stuff, wandering the Electronics aisle and....they had just stocked a pallet of VBR334's, same as on Vizio website, http://www.vizio.com/home-theater-1/vbr334.html


I bought 1, so now have 3 3D players in boxes still....now how to decide which to keep??

I decided to get the DMP-BDT100 (already on order) to use with my Samsung 6189S (he DMP-BDT300 was just too expensive). Now is the issue of the sound. I have a nice, all be it aging 7.1 sound system using a Denon 3808 AVR, which is hdmi 1.3 compliant. If I add a splitter, such as the 'ViewHD 2 Port 1x2 Power Splitter' ( http://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Power-S...1388410&sr=1-3 ) and feed one output to the TV and one to the AVR, will it work? It will add another $50 to the system cost. Of course the cheapest way to go is to use Toslink. The question is, am I going to hear a difference between the two approaches?
