The tech's answer is at least meaningless/purposeless (you choose the word, I am not native english speaker) because it doesn't say the framerate.
For example, 1920x1080p@24Hz and 1920x1080i@60Hz, both Frame Packing, have exactly the same bandwith, i.e. 148,5 MHz. This is because the interlaced format is at 60Hz and the progressive is at 24Hz and the enginneers chose the Horizontal Blanking values to make them with the same bandwith, to reduce the cost of HDMI chips.
Both formats need the "3D over HDMI" feature in the HDMI chip to be understood (1.3 or 1.4 is not important, provided the Frame Packing discovery and signaling functions are supported).
So I would rather expect that both or none of the two are supported. Try to ask again adding: "at what framerate ?".
