Thanks for the link Lee,
Excellent coverage of many LCD 3D topics including how it is projected on a 240Hz and ghosting issues.

Did you notice that he too makes reference to the 240Hz only being active in 2D mode and 120Hz (60 per eye) in 3D mode with the black frame insertion.

This set is still edge lit though correct? It just has the added feature of "precision dimming". Anyone know if the Wireless USB Dongle for the 2009 LED will work with the C line? if not, what are some good 3rd party pieces?

I know I ask a lot of questions, but im new.

sidenote: anyone know the best cloth (Lint free?) and cleaner for these SOB's? "c" line that is.

I'm going to have to do some eye exercises. Today was the first time in ages I've been able to see "cross-eyed" 3D - where the two movies play side by side and you have to cross your eyes to bring the images together for 3D. Unless the images are small (as in the HD Guru article), I haven't been able to cross my eyes enough to see the effect. Of course, it might have helped that the subject matter was bikini babes. My eyes snapped directly into cross-eyed mode.

Interestingly they liked the 2D to 3D conversion, unlike some people here. I've tested the conversion with several discs and have concluded that I'll not buy a 3D set without it!
So maybe the 63" Samsung plasma will be in my future.

Hmm. Sounds decent but that's a big premium on a set and it still has ghosting. I don't know.

I have this set and it's going back to Best Buy on Monday, May 24. It has the same ghosting issues as all of the Samsung 3d TV's INCLUDING their plasmas 3d TV which I demoed 2 weeks ago.

I do like the 2d to 3d conversion but Samsung has not been able to fix the ghosting problem as of yet thur a firmware update.
The updates on their site do not work and according to their customer service dept, they do not have any idea when a new update will be available.

I really like the 2d picture and the style of the set, it has local dimming, but I purchased for the 3D experience and don't want to wait any longer for a fix which may never happen.

I also demoed the Sony 3d TV three weeks ago at a Sony Style store and it suffered from the same ghosting issues. It also can convert 2d to 3d. Maybe they well have a fix for the ghosting issue when their retail 3d sets debut next month.

Do you have the 1019 firmware installed? If yes what setting with the new optimizer function do you have?
Have you tried reversing the eye signals?
Just the other day someone reported that their local BB did not have the 1019 firmware installed and they were amazed at the almost complete lack of ghosting after they installed it.

As promised here is my report with the firmware update that I received in the mail from Samsung last week.

As mentioned on another post the 1019 firmware update doesn't work; this has been confirmed by Samsung customer service, mater of fact the file won't even load, you get an error message " no file present".

So I went to Best Buy on Friday, May 28 to have them install the firmware update on the 7000 series Led TV. The sales rep just told me that the Samsung rep was in last week and updated the firmware but decided to use mine anyway. While watching the screen during the update it say that is was updating version 1014 to 1017 ( so I don't believe a firmware update was performed as mentioned).

OK, the TV restarted after the firmware update was installed and we started Monster vs Aliens, turned on the glasses and presto/chango, the picture still suffered from ghosting and was NOT improved at all.

When will this problem be fixed?

I have already returned my 8000 series, which by the way is now reduced another $300.00 or so from when I purchased it.

Also other posts have mention that updating the 3D player has helped with the ghosting issue but this is not true either since I updated mine and it didn't make a difference; why would it. I am using a 1.4 HDMI cable so this is not the problem either.

Right now it's just a very good expensive 2D LEd TV.

I am not sure what you mean by 'the 1019 firmware doesn't work?'

I was a proud owner of the 46c7000 (returned due to an immter issue - waiting for my vt25). Ghosting was present with all firmware updates (I did 4 total I beleive over the 29 days that I owned it). It was not until the 1019 update (downloaded from the US site and installed via memory stick) did the ghosting improve. It was a HUGE improvement however ghosting was still there if you looked for it. My satisfaction with the 1019 update went from 50% to 95% satisfied - it really did make a HUGE difference!

It appears that they sent you 1017 firmware and not 1019 firmware.

Space123321 ( glad you had success) & Walford thank you for your comments. When I downloaded firmware update 1019 to my zip drive and did the software update, I kept getting a message that read" file not found". I called Samsung customer Service 3 separate times that day and finally got someone to admit that the file (1019) was corrupt. They promised to send an update in the mail and they did two weeks later ( (had already returned the TV). If there was a valid 1019 why wouldn't they have sent me that one. Further calls to Customer Service claimed that they had " no idea" when the ghosting issue would be fixed.

Walford see if you can down load a valid 1019 from the USA website. It has a release date of May 7, 2010. Today is June 1; and no new update in sight.

I really like the 2d to 3d conversion feature but not at the expense of a substandard 3D picture.

Space123321, I like the Panasonic vt25 sets also. A 54 " is currently available in Pgh, PA. Just wish it was as bright as the LED sets. I may hold off for another month or so to see the Sony 3D which is now scheduled for late June or early July ( going to miss the 3d version of the world cup which would have sold more Sony 3d TVs).

I have a feeling that they have not worked out the ghosting issue as of yet because originally they claimed a June release.

Try going to Samsung Canada and filter your way to the tool section of the TV's. You will find the 1019.1 firmware file that I used with no issues.

Also - are you extracting the file on the memory stick first - there are specific instructions that come with the file - as it is not the file itself that works however the content within the file

My 63PNC8000 came with 1020 firmware.

Space123321 & almostinsane thank you for your comments.

Yes I have downloaded 1019 to a usb memory stick and followed the update instructions. I always get an error message " file not found"

I will look for it on the Canada site if it's available to me down load it and take it to a Best Buy Magnolia store to try on their floor model.

Almostinsane how is the 3D picture with update 1020? Any ghosting?

I would prefer to have the 63" plasma now that I have returned the 8000 series LED.

Thank you!

Space123321, just located firmware version 1019.1 on the Canada site.

I will download and make another trip to a BB store later today (can you lend me $5.00 for some gas money) and report my findings asap.

Thank you.

Hope this works, if so, may go for the 58" Samsung 3d Plasma. Panasonic (58 and 65") & Sony are taking to long to get their sets into the US of A although the BB site now lists a 800 series Sony 46" & 55" LED 3D TV with no release date..

OK as promised here is my review of the 1019.1 firmware update. I down loaded 1019.1 from the Canada site and took it to my local best But store. I watched as the firmware was updated from 1017 to 1019.1 I must admit I did notice less ghosting on some scenes however on the bridge scene, all of the red suspension cables had a ghost image.

I also went into the menu and turned off the 3d auto image and the 240 smooth option to no avail.

The Samsung 3D TV's are very nice TV's especially the Plasmas version because they are less expensive but won't do for me because of the 3D ghosting issue. My only reason for purchasing another TV was 3D. I will wait probably another month for the Sony version to hit the states. Ironically the 55" Sony 3d Tv is no longer listed on the BB site. It was yesterday?????

Still no listing for the Panasonic 58 and 65 " plasmas.

Did you try different settings in the new Optoimizer 1in the 1019 firmware between -5 and +5?

They were listed when I checked last week.
Walford, no I didn't. Will try that when I go back to BB. You didn't mean the "depth" selection -5 to + 5 which I tried to no avail. p.s. I got a lot of posting to do to catch up to you; lol.

ChldsPlay was this at the general listing for 3D TV's on the BB site in the US?

Thanx to both of you.
