What happened to the Avatar BlurRay scope thread that was on this board?

Thread Starter
I actually started the thread and found it very intersting. It was the most active thread on the 2.35 board now its gone?

My guess it was deleted because it quickly skewed off topic and turned into a CIA vs CIH and scope vs non-scope argument.

I agree with the original direction of the thread.

Since this is a CIH subforum, how would the blu-ray presented (given the scope presentation of the 2D (and some 3D) film in theaters)? Once it was known that the blu-ray would not be scope, how would CIH enthusiasts present it at home? If they preferred to show it in scope, would they be able to view or at least shift (if you have an HTPC, Oppo or Philips player) the subtitles into the 2.35:1 picture area?

All interesting questions for the CIH forum. Unfortunately, it was hijacked and devolved into something else.

I don't really see where there's much need for discussion, this would be like viewing any other movie in 'scope that was shot in another AR. I do think LilGator's illustrations of how the movie was non-center cropped for scope in the theaters was useful to illustrate why doing a simple center crop at home wouldn't achieve the exact same experience as in the theaters.

Other than that, your choices are clear - watch the movie in 16:9, or crop it to 2.35:1. We already know what Cameron's take on this was, but it's up to each individual how they personally want to view it in their home. I know I will be watching it in 16:9 because I want to preserve as much of the image as possible.

Sorry, but it was deleted per the admins due to bickering and the use screen grabs from and discussion of bootlegs.

If a thread is deleted, please contact one of the moderators listed on the first page of that particular forum vs opening up a public discussion thread on the topic.
