i have read several reviews on this sub being quite nice but how does it compare to some of the big boys like the css sdx15 or the rhythmik 15?

Steer clear of the MFW as the company seems to be headed for inevitable bankruptcy.

Now, if you plan on buying one, I would do so on the used market and take advantage of the turbo kit upgrade as you won't have any kind of warranty anyway.

The sub itself was designed by Mark Seaton. He can do wonders with designs. It's what the company does with the designs after he turns them over to them (read: sub-quality parts, poor quality veneer, etc.) that gets them into trouble from a product standpoint.

I bought my MFW-15 about a month and LOVE the thing. I've been debating on buying 2 more. If you're even considering MFW-15's you've got ALOT of reading up to do on whether or not you're really willing to take the risk on 1 of these subs.

from what i have read it is more of the enclosure that makes this sub so great and the amp and driver are mediocre?

I just picked up a pair via Audiogon and I am more than pleased with their performance. They both have the new amps and so far have performed flawlessly. My room is 24 x 14 and they pressurize it something fierce! As others have noted it is kind of a crap shoot buying them from Av123. You may be better off buying used from someone with a proven sub...just my .02 worth.

i like the idea of audiogon but am always skeptical of getting ripped off with no protection. ebay at least has a little bit of protection.
