Ads showing on the right side?

Might be the wrong forum but I am getting ads on the right side when reading through threads here. I have never seen this and it is quite annoying. I disabled the right side ads in my edit options but I noticed this option is for AVS Club members which I am not a member. Are others seeing these ads for the first time today? If they are is there a way to disable them?

Become a club member.

They're fiddling with some software having to do with ads ... are you seeing popups as well that have to be cancelled out? They actually prevented me from seeing the full page earlier in the week.

Thats a thought but why should I have to pay so that I do not see the ads?

Stew,

Thanks for the link. I will delete this thread in a bit just so people can see the link you posted.

Really? That's an actual question?

You do understand that sites like this cost money, right?
You do understand that people pay money for ads to be displayed, right?

Can you not see the connection between paying to be a Club Member and not seeing ads?

Why is that so hard to grasp. Up until today I did not see the ads when viewing posts and I was not a forum member. Got that. Now today the ads are visible and the only way to not see them is to pay a fee to AVS so I can disable the ads.

Yes I am well aware that it costs money to run AVS.

Wow really, I thought they were for free. This site is amazing in that you learn something everyday here.

Once again you are just amazing. How I missed something that obvious is beyond me.

Yes, then I saw that too and when i see to many ads on a website - i do not go back very often. Here at AVS it will happen also. People will come less and those sponsors who do have Ads here will have less expose- fewer people returning.........

i kind of like the ads. lets me know whats available, depending on the company. i mean i dont want to start seeing stuff for ginsue knives and such. A/V stuff is good. I also look at them as quick links for when i want to look at gear and stuff. wish there were a couple other companies that had ads here whom i shall not name.

Interesting, I have not paid for a membership yet, and as far as I can remember I have always seen ads on the right side....

I was under the impression that anybody who wasn't a paid member saw them as well?

How about Allstate Insurance? I just saw one of their ads so Ginsue Knives should not be far behind.

Try Firefox plus noscript and ABP add-ons and the ads will disappear.

Odd, I installed AdBlocker for Safari but I still see them.

Oh, they're ad placeholders... I was wondering why random posts were narrower than all the others with blank white space filling the area that the post would have normally run over into.

Yeah, whatever. I've been a member of High Def Forum for years and they aren't screwing their users like this. It's not like they don't have overhead costs like everyone else. They do and they also have advertising. Maybe rather than bullying people around, you guys should go look how the big boys do it.

Oh, I agree completely. This is an absolute outrage. When I factor in the amount of knowledge I've gained from this site, I can't believe this is going on. Not to mention the stress the extra scrolling is putting on my mouse. I can't even believe this. I did some calculations this afternoon, and the extra finger movement I have to do is causing me to burn an extra .000000026 calories a day. Unreal. I'm dropping this site and going to another that doesn't cause me this type of physical pain.

Hey bunny,

No I'm not happy with the ads but I'll get used to them. Do I think AVS is screwing me, not one bit.
