That is how my TV was packaged as well, so I don't think it's a repackaging issue.

Well then I guess there will be many returns.

Have that problem for my Sammy 46" led upstairs, I bought the Sanus ultra slim mount. It locks into place and is supposed to kick out from the bottom w/kickstands when you want to wire it. We cannot get it to kick out at the bottom at all, it's stuck. Luckily I can barely reach to plug stuff in, but who knows how I'm going to get it off the wall if we ever move?

Same thing happened to mine.. I just reopened it to see if there is any protective film over glass.. It has tape over the bezel and I think on stand. I received it yesterday... opened it up, sat it on tv stand.. my friend noticed the crack. I called Crutchfield yesterday and the freight company will pick it up when I receive mine. I just hope I get it by Friday. It shipped out today. It ships then has to be shipped from a different freight company..

Yeah, it wasn't packaged very well. I should also report that I powered it up and there is a LOUD buzz. I hooked up the blu-ray player and tried to get something to display, but nothing happened. I don't know if the buzzing is related to the damage on the screen, but it's much louder than the reports on here have been. Most who have experienced the buzz have said it's annoying, but can be dealt with, or that it goes away. This was crazy loud. Is this how it was for other people, I wonder?

Video of the buzz:

Polling others:

When you unboxed y our TV, did it have a film over the glass display, or just plastic tape wrapped around the bezel?

I am wondering if I have a returned unit. ABT says they only ship new units...could something have been repackaged by Samsung and sent to ABT? Doubtful, in my opinion.

guys I'm returning my 58c8000 b/c I'm one of the unlucky ones with a bad buzzing issue coming from it. I'm leaning heavily on swapping it out for the 63C8000...I know pricing is off limits, but can anyone tell me if they have found it for less than 34xx.xx? I need to leverage something b/c I bought it from a retail store and I know tax is going to kick my ass. I think they'll work with me, but I have only seen the usual prices on-line. If anyone has any insight into what the deal is at ABT (PM me).

Option 2 is the 58" VT25, but I already know the issues there.
thx

Is there interest in a new thread that lists serial numbers from sets that have been sent back to see if they resurface as "new" in someone else's home? My PN58C8000 arrived with no protective "tape" around the bezel and has unusually loud buzzing. I'm not so sure that I am the 1st owner. Or am I just being paranoid???

I think we should definitely take down serial numbers. Good idea. Could be useful later.

I've never heard a 2009 or 2010 Samsung plasma buzz that loud, has to be from the damage that caused the crack in the screen.

ChadB just finished his calibration on my PN63C7000. Did a spectacular job. Very knowledgeable and very friendly! This was my second panel he calibrated (first being a 9G Kuro Elite 151) and I will undoubtedly bring him back for a third time when the time comes. Thanks Chad! This panel is gorgeous!

Who did you order your 63" through Dostera? I have one on order too and am anxiously awaiting it's ship date. And grats on your new TV, I hope all goes well with delivery, and I hope you find some time to come back and tell us how it's going.

I ordered through Crutchfield in March. I also got the 1.4 HDMI cables cheap through Amazon.

Sounds great, always nice to have it professionally calibrated to bring out the best in the TV's features.

All this talk of bad packaging, cracked screens and buzzing has me growing weary on getting the PN58C8000. Maybe it's to be expected to read all this stuff here but it makes me wonder if there is a quality control problem at Samsung. My problem is I need a nice looking plasma panel to hang on my wall and nothing looks as good as the Samsung.

My dad is having his UN55C8000 replaced because a couple of ports on the back of the tv came right out!

Shoot...I ordered from ABT too...your experience is really scaring me.

I've had a bad experience with deliveries from some online retailers with delicate plasma panel shipments - I've had 2 plasma's delivered cracked/broken in the past.

I really hope the ABT guys use a good shipper to deliver the TV; else I'll be canceling my order - I dont want to wait for a replacement.

Other shippers have delivered cracked sets too... it's just a risk you take when you ship a huge glass screened item. Luckily, if you order from a reputable place (like Abt), they'll take care of everything to replace it. Again, I HIGHLY recommend Abt. They're as good (or better) than any other online retailer.

If a screen is cracked the panel will buzz/hum loud.

Even if a person picks up a unit, at one point it was on a truck. That is why weither one picks up or gets a unit delivered, inspect your goods before you sign. Weither it is car, furniture, or television. Drop everything and focus on your goods for five minutes, Instead of a delivery agent coming back to pick up a cracked unit, we would have had our clients inspect, power up with driver before they leave that way they can reject the unit if need be and have it out of there area and no more time wasted on that delivery.

I just reran my greyscale after updating to 1019 firmware and I can confirm that my black level has improved significantly. Original reading was 0.026ftL. Latest reading is 0.021ftL

That is good enough to raise the contrast ratio to over 1200:1 on Cal-Night. Some of my grayscales deltaE's are off a bit, but not too bad. Gamma is at about 2.4 now instead of 2.2. I will dial it in again this weekend. Picture still looks pretty good with the settings I have already but could be better.

All in all, this firmware seems to have made a big impact on MLL. I would love to know how and why. I would also love if a professional calibrator (or at least someone with more experience) could provide another data point here.

For all you guys that have a Samsung plasma with the Cinema Smooth feature, how is it? Is it like the 2009 models or have they fix it?
I work at a pretty large electronics store and have known about the Samsung buzz since last year and was going to pick up a PN58B850 as they were going discontinued but figured Samsung surely would be able to fix the buzzing issues as I saw a countless number of returns for that exact reason.

Once we got the PN58C6400's in I was quick to put one on demo as I was waiting for them for 3 months and right away I could hear a slight buzz when right up to the screen but it mostly sounded as if it was coming from the back and I couldn't really hear and substantial buzz. So I went ahead and bought one knowing if I got a buzzer I could easily return it.

After getting it all wall mounted and set up I sat down and was blasted by buzz, I was extremely disappointed that Samsung hadn't fixed it and upon further investigation it is shocking how directional the buzz is. If your sitting anywhere off the outside edge of the bezel you cant hear anything, if your sitting even slightly off center 8-10ft back its not bad but once you get right in the middle it will give you a headache after a few minutes, its just as loud as a xbox and trying to watch movies is terrible as any time there is a quite scene or dialog the buzzing is overwhelming

I then went back to our demo unit to see if that one did have as bad of a directional buzz but even with just the TV on and everything else off before the store opens I can't find a spot thats nearly as bad. I can't tell if the buzz is less because its in a room with sound deadening walls but I will be returning the one I have and picking up another in hopes they really are that different.

On a side note I haven't seen any other 2010 buzzing Samsung's returned but did get 1 - 60PK550 LG returned due to loud buzzing. So I hope the buzzing units are few and far between as this came of the first shipment of the year and hopefully the ones we have now have a later manufacture date and newer parts, perhaps they were using left over 850 parts. I also checked the PN58C590 thats on demo and couldn't hear any buzz from it although I could hear some from the PN50C540.

For people going to see these TV's in stores make sure you aren't standing above the top of the TV when your listening for the buzz you probably won't hear it, its like flipping a light switch as your ear passes the top of the bezel when your sitting down.

I am not only disappointed in Samsung but as well as Panasonic for not offering the 5,000,000:1 - Infinite Black on any 58" TVs other than 3D models. I know they have a 54" 2D with the Infinite Black but I'm picky and want a 58" and 3D doesn't interest me.

Also posted this in the buzzing thread.

Please keep us up to date on this. I haven't decided whether to buy the Blu-ray player or not, although if having the wireless built-in would "save" me $80, then in might justify buying it in my eyes

I wish I could have shared my opinion on the difference between the two. Unfortunately the 63C7000 was sitting out in the bright lit store running on Dynamic mode with composite video cables. The 58C8000 was mounted to a wall in the dim "movie area" they have set up running Avatar via HDMI on Movie Mode. There really wasn't any comparison that could be made between the two because of this.

In the UK, the PSxxC7000 seems to be more or less equivalent to the PNxxC8000 US model, in a similar way to Australia and some other countries already mentioned in this thread,

It certainly lists the Real Black Filter in the specs and probably has Cinema Smooth (though they seem to call it Cinema Progressive). However, MJC is apparently not included, though whether that means it's locked-on or absent is anyone's guess.

Specs are at http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/t...=specification

Does anyone know if it's possible to do something in the service menu on this set to enable MJC control?

I'm in the market to buy a new 3D plasma tv. It's my first plasma and I'm down to either the Samsung PN63c8000 or the Panasonic 65VT25. I love Samsung but in all honesty I believe Panasonic's 3D looks better. I already have the Samsung UN55C8000 but was told 3D would look better on a plasma screen. I'm keeping the LED for my bedroom and so need another TV for my living room. Which would any of you prefer?

You're asking the Samsung plasma owners if they would prefer the Panasonic or Samsung plasma? Perhaps this question would get more balanced responses if it were outside of this thread...

What is the problem you have with the 2009 Cinema Smooth? I have the PN58B860. I find that Cinema Smooth works wonderfully and I'm someone who is sensitive to jerky motion on slow pans.

Whoa... I just found out that Best Buy's extended warranty covers burn-in on plasmas. That is potentially a BIG deal for me, as being someone who is a first-time plasma purchaser who is VERY nervous about IR / burn-in. More specifically, I'm nervous about my wife doing something (freezing the screen while she's on the phone for two hours for example...). I wonder if Best Buy will match my Abt pre-order since Abt is in-market for me...
