I am on my third panel. First panel went pink. Took the refurbed 2nd panel 100 days to develop pink blotches. 3rd panel is a few weeks old and appears okay, but my first 2 panels didn't have any initial problems either. Since I was outside my 1 year warranty period Samsung did honor the repair. I am concerned that a few months from now the problem will surface again and samsung will tell me I am SOL.

Has anyone tested the input lag when in PC Mode? I like the way the picture looks for gaming more when I set the HDMI 1 port to PC. I'm just curious if the input lag is worse than when it is set for TV and in Game Mode.

I've kind of lost track but on this "pink banding" issue, have most of the reported panels here been with the 58" one? I have a 50C7000 and I'm curious if anyone with a 50" has experienced this problem.
Wow this is not good at all, this seems like way too common of a problem.. I came here as I noticed I had some purple banding across the top of my screen on white backgrounds. I am most def. out of warranty. How should I proceed?

Also I keep getting a prompt for a "firmware" upgrade. I am afraid if I let it upgrade I will lose my picture settings. Will I?
i have the same issue - reddish blotches on bright scenes with my 58C7000 = tech said to be sure the firmware was up to date - however mine was up to date. i'm schedule for a panel replacement. but they told me it needs to be changed in a 'controlled' environment and they're taking the tv in - for a week to ten days!
So can anyone confirm if I will lose my picture settings if I update the firmware?

Also I noticed on Samsung's site it said if you register your product you can get 3 months of extended warranty. Too bad mine was already registered

I have never lost my picture settings when I did the online firmware upgrade

Mine was replaced yesterday about 10 feet from where it is mounted. The tech helped me take it off the mount and we laid it face down on a comforter I spread on the floor. It took about an hour and the TV was back up on the wall and working. After watching what he did I am confident I could replace it myself if I needed to.

The panel is a sealed unit and comes with some of the circuit boards already attached. The tech had to remove the back cover then removed the boards that needed to transfer to the new panel, removed the screws that hold the frame to the panel. Then we removed the old panel from the frame, placed the new one in the frame, and then pretty much the reverse of the above.

geez-- they're picking up my tv - for about a week! thanks for the info
post #7630 of 7930
Yep, Samsung tech came and replaced mine today as well. Super nice guy and a process I'm pretty sure I can repeat myself if I have to someday.

I asked him a lot about the voltage settings on the TV and he made sure to adjust them when we put the panel back in. He said they were within spec and that it's possible adjusting the voltage might have fixed the original panel.

At the end of the day only two of the boards are from the old TV so I basically got a brand new TV today, kinda cool.

any of the techs tell you guys not to keep the set on dynamic all the time?
Well, my pn58c7000 is exhibiting the same purple banding...Its been there for a month or so (I should have searched here as soon as I saw it), and just got off the phone with a Samsung "Personal Service Advocate Dept" lady who was very helpful. I bought my tv 5/28/10 and registered it so I am currently a few months out of warranty. She is sending someone out on Thursday and extended my warranty 90 days to cover all repairs. We shall see what happens...

should that already effect a TV that is as new as these are?

Yep the guy that replaced my panel said that. He also said not maxing the contrast is a good thing.
The Dynamic setting has the cell light maxed, that's why they're probably telling you not to have it on that all the time. It seems kinda silly considering it's one of the defaults.

I just started noticing a flickering issue on white and gray backgrounds on my 58c8000. it looks like a dark purple flicker that fluctuates a bit, especially on the top part of the screen. I believe it is similar to what others are calling the pink or purple banding issue.

The TV is still under warranty. Samsung is having a repair company come out. Here's what I find interesting. Before even seeing the TV for themselves, the repair company is ordering a new panel.

Can I assume that this is a known issue? And if they are ordering a panel can I expect it is new and meant for a 58c8000 and not another model?

Wouldn't it be just as cost effective to give me a new set, since the plasma screen is the bulk of the TV expense in the first place?

I was hoping to hear this. Having the same issue with my 58c7000 purchased Sept 2010 and I too am out of warranty. I'll be calling them to see if I have the same luck.

Something I saw over the weekend and ordered

US Appliance has the Shrek 3D starter kit with 3 movies and 2 pairs of glasses( for the 2010 Samsung televisions) for 80% off the retail price on their website

Free shipping and no sales tax ..if reside in states other than MI, OH or IN..where they have retail stores

Says "open box"...but it appears they have several box sets to sell

Well I'm joining the purple horizontal band club. I can see it best (looks worst) on a pure white background. I too have the PN58C7000. I called Samsung and have a tech scheduled for Friday. My TV was slightly out of warranty but by registering its now in warranty.

For me the band is about 5 inches wide and above the center of the screen. I first noticed the band during scene transitions about a month ago, but with an all white background, its really obvious.

Good luck to us all!

Thank you! I have been kind of wanted to get more glasses as I only had two previously. Adding four movies in is great though. Enjoyed the first two Shrek's. The third was ok, but I haven't seen the fourth yet.

Wow, awesome deal. I jumped on it. Thanks! The site said "only one left" but I went back on a different computer after I purchased, and it still said "only one left".

Can any of you guys with the panels replaced take a look at this and let me know if it is the same issue you had? Thanks.

My TV started doing this about a month ago. I can see it on different sources, i.e. HDPC and PS3.

That is actually kind of interesting. One odd thing I noticed with mine is that the pink blotches were very apparent on HDMI1 where I have my DirecTV DVR hooked up but not visible at all on identical programming viewed on my FIOS DVR which is hooked up via the component inputs through my AV receiver.

Was just curious if the C series is known to suffer from the same brightness pops as the D series?

yes...mine shipped and should be delivered tomorrow

I notice they have the newer package( with the bluetooth glasses) for 2011 models as well...for just a bit more $$

But still a great deal...I am tempted to order another

It may be they have a mountain of leftovers they are trying to get rid of
