with a CN01 panel..OK I have read and tried numerous settings in the official thread and am now more confused than ever. What is the consensus for the best settings to start with for the CN panel?

This site is great with lots of good info - Thanks

I got the same tv about a month ago, same panel. I went thru the calibration thread on our tv. Adjusted some good suggestions there and have come up with the following which, in our opinion is very, very, good.

Movie
Backlight -6 for cable (7 for blu ray)
Contrast-95
Bright-44
Sharp-20
Color-50
Tint-50/50
Black Tone-off
Dynamic Contrast-off
Gamma-0
Color Space-Auto (this allows the tv to adjust to different broadcast feeds as they vary)
White Balance-default
Edge Enhancement-on
Xvycc-off
Color Tone- Warm 2
DN Red-off
Film Mode-Auto 2
Blue-off

Picture Options- Auto Motion Plus - Custom -Blur Reduction 10, Dejudder 2. (This allows a little Auto Motion smoothing without causing the "soap opera" effect.)

Some people turn off all enhancements, we like the look of the pic better with the Sharpness on 20 rather than 0, Edge Enhancement ON. We also turn off the Dynamic Contrast because with it on there is too much contrast and the whites are unnatural big time.

Thanks !! I'll give those a whirl..Am currently using SAM S settings from page 65
of our TV thread, but the colors appear a little washed on my set so will try these.

Thanks

Post back after you try them. All input is good to have.

Thanks -- wilco

I'd like to keep this thread dedicated to the 55 inch version with the CN01 panel.
If any one else has some settings to suggest with this configuration please chime in.

Thanks

You're right -- Looks very good -- wandering about a color tweak to go along with
those settings?? whatya think ?
If by tweak you mean take off auto color space and adjust some settings, that will disable auto color and I find that a good thing to have. As each broadcast station and blu ray is different in their color presentation, the auto adjusts for that. Setting the color yourself would seem to lock in good color on one show or movie and then not work with others. Some person with more knowledge than me about all things color related commented that the implementation of Auto Color on the Sammy tvs was excellent and he recommended it.

But try some and let me know what you find. I'm always interested in making the pic better. But my settings are working very well with many stations and movies so far.

Glad it helped you.

I was speaking to Robert Heron about my tv and he referred me to this forum. He thinks my grey scale possibly needs to be adjusted. here are my current settings

I have no problem with how things look other than light skinned people tend to have a yellowish hue to them i tried the settings above that @mes444 used and the yellowish is still there...any ideas?
The only two things we changed from above are brighness down to 43 for cable (still 44 for blu ray), and we changed from Movie to "Standard" for cable with component connections, but still use "Movie" for blu ray with HDMI. I think you may see less yellow using Standard rather than Movie for cable, so give that a try.

These settings are for the CN01 Panel. If yours is different you may get different results. We don't see any yellow push on our tv, it still provides an excellent picture.

thanks for response...now that you mention tv vs blu-ray im not sure if i see the yellow on tv or not. its blu-ray that i notice it...im looking at the details from my newegg order on this tv and i dont know if its CN01 Panel...i guess ill just play with it some or live with it...are grey scale calibrators expensive? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889102271

Look on the right side of the tv. There you'll find the serial number and under it is the panel type. That will tell you what you have.

I don't know about grey scalers, all I've done with the tv is in the settings I've noted.

Try Standard setting, it may help.

FYI, the CN01 panel should be S-MVA tech, made by CMO. Also, it should have narrow viewing angles and a uniform screen (no flashlighting or clouding or the like).

Newer Samsungs use the label SN02 (like the LND630) for this type of panel and it's entirely possible that there are some differences between the CN01 and SN02.

thanks for responses again...mine is cn01 ill keep playing with it and see what i can come up with (=
