The Beach House Bar Build! Hooray!

Well, after a few months of trolling a few different sites, here it is. I actually starting a thread of my own. Thanks for all the ideas from this forum(my wife hates this site now) has given me.

To start off, my house was built in the 1950's, and the garage was added sometime later. When they built it, they added a small work room at the back that was just enough to fit a bench. After settling in the house, I moved to the garage to "make something of it". I decided to not that wall out and make it a bar.

My most favorite creation, (except my son of course)
pictures coming once I get online at home. And figure out how to post the pictures.

I am also looking for a good name for my bar. As you can probably tell, my last name is Beach. All of my friends refer to my house as "The Beach House" whenever they are talking about it, so it seemed fitting to the temporary name "The Beach House Bar". But I am open for suggestions.

And please, if you have a comment or suggestion, SHARE IT. I am still very new to this whole thing and I am sitll learning a ton(everytime a screw something up).

Beach, do you have a theme for the bar in mind? Any pics of the space?

That would help spur some creativity from the crowd here.

I am in the process of building my bar/media areas, thread to come soon, and it is going to have a Retro Wine bar/Pin up bomber girl theme, if that makes any sense!! Name to come.....

Hooray! That took some nerve to put it in the thread title, but got my attention! I don't think you should name the room, since when its all done, your guests will be speechless. How about just giving it a symbol? I recommend "greater than": >

As far as the hooray thing. I have been trolling for a few months now and didnt want to screw something up. plus I am having my first real party in the bar on friday so I am double excited about it.

Of course nothing is every completed when it comes to pojects of passion, but it is worthy of being seen by the public now. wahoo!

ok, quick update. I just realized either I didnt take any pictures until the bar was built and stained, or I cant find them. Either way, that sucks, alot.

still plenty of pictures after that but I cant believe I spaced taking any pictures until we started working on the walls. DARN!

And thanks to mtbvert, I will hopefully (as long as I am not as dumb as I think I am) have picture up tonight!

HOLY COW IT WORKED!!!!!! It took forever to figure it out, but it worked!

Ok, now that I have an idea (however small that idea is) of what I am doing, I will start posting them in the best order I can figure.

But for now it is late and my wife is complaining about being up too late for "stupid addictions", or something like that.

Welcome to the forum. Glad to see of more Hoosiers in this never ending hobby. Be prepared to go broke in your quest though. In my 2003 theater build, I hoped to be in the budget range of $2000 to $2500 (including theater seats and decor). Well, I surpassed that $22,000 later. And the game room, just a pool table was in the plans. But since then, a bar I built myself from HeyNow^'s post, very nice condition 1970s' pinball machine, MAME arcade and a a PC jukebox still in production. I hope to still be young enough to enjoy it all when finished.

Thanks for the warning, but its a little too late. I am also way over budget and I havent even thought about a theater build (I just dont have the room right now).

So I got the pictures posted, but can anyone show me how to post the pic directly to the forum so you dont have to click on it to see them?

Hey more Hoosiers, this is getting scarey!!! To post pictures directly into your thread, go to photobucket or something similiar. Upload the photos there, then you can copy the IMG address from photobucket directly into your thread. Yup it's that easy!!!

Well, we had a party in the bar last night,(until about 7am this morning). So I am really freaking tired right now

This is a picture of the garage the day before we moved in. Thankfully they got most of the crap out. For some reason this is the only picture I have until the bar was built and stained. Such a dummy

ps. pay not attention to the title of that file. Thats where I found the picture

I am going to do my best to but these in some sort of order. Here's hoping!!

The first picture is right after I installed the tower for the beer. It wasnt even hooked up yet, the glass next to it was poured from a bottle just for looks.

The next picture is actually the first two glasses that came out of the faucet.
hooray beer!

The third is taken after installing the bar lights over the top, with a touch pad dimmer switch. Adds a nice light to the room when the other lights are off.

Ok, first picture here is the Coors Light fridge I picked up off craigs list for $40.

The next few pics are of insulation on the back wall behind the bar. Just in time for the weather to turn warm.

I need some help on this one. I dont know the best way to correct this. when I put the bar top on the bar, I wasnt sure what kind of trim I wanted to put on. Since stumbling across this site, I realized the chicago bar rail is the way I HAVE to go.

The problem is I didnt make the bar more then one layer deep. It is just the one peice of wood. So the way I see it, the only way I can do this is remove the top and install two progressively wider peices of wood underneath. Is that correct?

And while you are hard at work trying to fix my screw up, could someone tell me how to hide these brackets, or will that problem go away once the rail is put on.

And my new best friend just dropped off my a few bar glasses to add to my collection! saweeet!

You can mount it to one piece. Thats how I have mine and it's solid as a rock. It's glued and screwed from underneath. I can press down on it very hard and it doesn't move at all.

The best way to hide those l brackets is to get rid of them. Why on earth did you use metal brackets? Go to home depot and pick yourself up some corbels and use those instead. Wood corbels are sturdier than those brackets and will look 100x better.

Also I think everyone will appreciate you using photobucket for your photos so we don't have to click. Yeah I know were lazy but you will just have to deal with it.

I found it much easier to not check the bank account first, if you do, this crazy thing called responsible spending gets into your head and ruins all the fun!!

While I understand this tactic, I have also felt the worst kind of buyer remorse when I checked the bank account days after a fun splurge and hated my life because it ended up costing my much more in bank fees.

Plus, in this case I actually found out that a $100 promo deal from my bank went through!

So I was also able to go buy the 16" x 16" stones I had been eyeing for the cornhole board area. Because after just a few games, the grass is smashed and then when it rains it is muddy and gross. So that will be my next quick project (ha, yeah right, quick)

Yeah! I found your thread! Looking good, great space to work with.

Definitely do the photobucket thing, makes it much easier for all of us here to view your pictures. Also don't ever keep track of your spending (balance the checkbook yes) but a running total on your hobby can take the joy out of it. Besides I have never seen a hearse with a U-Haul behind it so spend and enjoy. I started keeping a running total on my build, but after seeing a total earlier in my build north of 6K I got scared and stopped keeping track. Now I spend, balance the books, but I'm not worried what the total will be due to the enjoyment I will get out of my build.

Keep plugging away, post those pictures (here on AVS there is no progress without pictures) and most importantly enjoy your space with family and friends.

Photobucket works you just need to resize the picture so it fits in the screen and we don't have to scroll back and forth.

I know picky aren't we? Couple of sizes down should do the trick nicely.
