That small cooler is pretty sweet that is perfect and great beer drinking temp too, well may be just a smidge too cool but very close to perfect.

Oh since you can access your photobucket account at work why no additional post with photos? (Sorry couldn't resist)

Thats what those last couple pics were. I dont have a lot of time at work. In fact I had been working on the post for a few hours (in between the busy times). So its not easy, but possible. thanks

Thanks, I am trying to decide what to do with it. Part of me says paint it gold and leave the facemask laying off of it. The other part of me says to paint it like a colts helmet and fix the facemask.

whats everyones opinion on this? (and no, I am not painting it like the saints, steelers, patriots, or usc, so dont even say it!)

Well, I am officially over drywalling!!!! I hate it. I am not very good and I seem to break as many peices as I am getting put in. The big sheets are easy and no problems there. Except one of the sheets that I used is bent wierd and I had to use five screws in the same area to help hold the drywall to the studs. And the little areas and spots that need to be trimmed to fit are really starting to piss me off!

I wish I had the money to pay someone to come in and do this for me!

The latest screw up the i litterally put my blood and sweat into!
(stupid razor blade)
notice the wave in the surface and the cracks on the side, AHHHH!

When you are installing drywall around an outlet, you remove the outlet cover before you put in the drywall. The drywall is cut to be flush with the box and then the outlet cover covers the drywall seam. The way you have this installed now, the edge of the drywall will be visible around the outlet.
Beach,

I must say I am concerned about those seams also. Are the seams on studs?

It doesn't look like it, if so, you should be screwing both sides of the seam, about a 1/2" in from the seam.

You are right, full sheets are relatively cake, but cuts can take some practice., but in the end, tape and spackle can fix a world of hurt. Though tape and spackle can cause a world of frustration too!!

I strongly second BeerParty's comments, although i can't tell how much your wall plate overhangs the electrical box.

ha. Thanks for the comments and concerns on my anger issues. Dont worry about me being upset, this thread is my tool of release. I am only saddend(IF THATS A WORD) by the fact that I have to redo that at this point.

As for the outlet box, that is a really wierd angle that I didnt notice before. Plus, the cover that I will be using is larger and does cover the edge by about half an inch. But since I will have to redo this, I will go back through and make it a little more snug (thats what I tried to do, but apperently my measurements were wrong) hey, in the immortal words of my hero, "perfect practice makes perfect" right!

ps. let me know if anyone knows who said that. 10 points to the first person to answer correctly!

Moving on...

I have one 8' section of rail, and one 6' section of rail. The bar is 8' long, so I cannot use one full peice on the front. and the 6' peice seems to be slightly warped, (very slightly warped) so before I cut it, should I do something to striaghten it, like take it back and get a different one? I just dont want to cut it and then find out I have to get a different peice to make this work.

Keep in mind, This rail is by far the most important item of the build (and the most expensive). I am trying really hard not to screw this up, so if I ask a ton of questions between now and monday, bare with me.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I forgot a question.
I cant afford to go buy the corbles that I want to use. Like I said, I am starting the bar rail (hopefully) monday. Is it possible to wait and buy the corbles when I can afford them or should I wait to buy the corble and do it all at the same time? Or is it possible to just cover up the L brackets and keep chugging along?
Beach, is it safe to assume you are building up the existing bar top? If so, the corbels sound like they will be only decorative, and if that's the case, you can put them on later. Or are you planning to replace the L brackets with the corbels?

As for the bar rail, the most ideal thing to do is to get one length, 14', and cut the two pieces you need from that. This way the grain pattern will be a good match, and you don't have to have a two piece front rail.

BUT, if you do end up with a two piece front rail, put the smaller piece against the wall, away from the miter. It won't stand out as much that way.

While driving home friday night, I saw the open light still on in the local wood craft store. So I stopped in. Of course, they were closed, but they did not turn of the lights or lock the door yet. They were polite and gave me the card of the person that makes the rail (of course, she was already gone) and told me to call back on monday.

So instead of working on the bar this weekend, I am playing the waiting game until I can talk to the right person and know that I am getting exactly what I want. If she cant do any better of a job than what I have, then the work will start monday night.

here's hoping!

Sorry, I dont have any real pictures that need posted (and havent for a quite a few days now). I did however make some progress, I just dont know if it was in the right direction.

After a few days of depth thought, which my head still hurts from, I decided the rail that I bought from the big box store is not going to work. So I took it back. I could make it work, but I dont want to compromise this at all. I want it perfect.

I did find exactly what I wanted at Indy's best kept secret. It took 6 months to discover!! And its cheaper!!!! Everybody wins. They are going to take one 14' section and cut it into two uneven peices, so I can transport it home. and that way I can have all one peice on the front and the grain will match the side peices too!!!!!!!!! Wahoo!!!!!!!!

Hopefully, I will have this rail by thursday. If the rest falls together and not apart.

Go me!!!!

(oh yeah, and thanks to the rest of you that told me not to use the big box stuff)
Glad you found something that will work for you, and cheaper to boot! Just remember that there is no progress without photos.

No problem. At least in your thread there aren't any pictures of half naked men! (So far anyway.)

  2. Said women must be able to meet the same criteria to work at Hooters
  3. Absolutely NO men dressed up as women, if you arent sure, don't post it!!!

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

I promise, pictures by sunday!

But I just pulled the trigger on the 14' oak bar rail. My loving father is grabbing for me today since their ours are 8-5 and mine are 7:30-5:30 go figure.

So now the front of the bar will be all one peice!

I know, I have posted this a few times but I am excited so back off!
So...will the front of the bar be one piece now?
Another empty photo promise. Ok here is the deal, no photos by Sunday night (of the subject matter at hand) and I'll post a pic or more of half naked dudes! The balls in your court. Get cracking!

If I log in and find a picture of a half naked dude on my thread I will delete this website from my computer!!!!

please dont make me do that, I'm addicted!!! I cant quit cold turkey!!

But seriously, the bar rail is home at last. I will at least have it dry fitted and ready for light sanding and staining by sunday.

This is your first and last warning. Time is ticking away, I see a half naked dude in the near future.

Yup I too see this as one of "those" nights......promised updates, promised photos and still nothing. A warning was officially issued and now its time RT does what it is he "needs" to do........
Oh, how it pains me to do this, but discipline must be consistent if it is to be effective. I said no photos, then I would post a questionable photo of a half naked guy.

Well, I'm a man of my word.

Everyone needs a super hero sometimes, and this is as good a time as any.

There was an image of a half naked man here, but since I jumped the gun and beach came through I (to honor my word) deleted the photo. Besides we would not want this thread sinking to the level of hanes' now would we?

Tisk tisk, ye of little faith. I do apologize at the time of the pictures but, as I promised, it is still sunday and I have the updates.

First, I was delayed in starting on Saturday. I had to say goodbye to a dear old friend of mine. My grandpa died back in 2004, this was his car. A '72 Hurst/Olds Pacecar of the Indianapolis 500, the stickers have been off since the Resto. My grandma finally found a buyer. So I took it for one last trip. For both of us to say goodbye.

Thanks for following me on my little trip.

Now on to the fun stuff!
First I had to cut the trim to fit the bar rail

Then we cut the other side peice

and the most nerve racking part was not screwing up the front peice, but the corner mock up seems to have gone nicely!

Next up... this week I will be working on actually mounting the rail to the bar!

P.S. Please refrain from posting anymore half naked men on this site, as that was obviously premature!
Ok, you have a point. It is still Sunday and you did post photos so..........image deleted.

Plus with the story about your grandpa and his car that stuff is WAY more important than photos of a half naked man. Sorry for your loss. I no longer have any of my grandparents I understand the emotional ties to things left behind.

Bar rail looks good. Looking forward to seeing more photos. Although I do have more photos in reserve should they be necessary.

RTROSE

Quick question. The guys at the wood mill said that I would be fine without removing the bar top. To put it simply, I just need support for the bottom of the bar rail and it doesnt have to run through to the other side of the bar to do it.

What does everyone think about that? I like the idea because that means I dont have to changed the height of the top (which I think is perfect).

Okay, before anyone says anything about how crazy this looks, I know.
I have a friend that is an engineering major. I am relying solely on him at this point. So please, go easy on me!

The 2x4's you see are the only way I could reach the proper measurements (without going out and buying more wood that I dont have the money for right now)

See how the rail has two "lips"? The top/upper lip is to be rested on a second layer of mdf, plywood or whatever you choose and the bottom/lower lip is to be rested on the base layer of material which is what you have installed already. The cost to fix this is only the cost of a single sheet of 3/4" ply, mdf or whatever. I would wait until you can get that to install it properly so that you dont damage your expensive rail and/or bar.

Just my $.02
