Another Basement Project Question

So my basement is projected to look something like this:

I was thinking about putting all of my components behind the sectional couch instead of right under the TV. So the TV and speakers are the only things in front of you when you are watching TV.

I was wondering if there are any drawbacks by that. I plan on having my 360, SS receiver, satellite, blu ray etc. in a cabinet or shelf behind the couch along that wall. Do you forsee any set backs with that setup?

I just think it will look cleaner that way...

I think its a good idea, one I considered but decided against because I didn't want to have people walk around the sectional to load or swap discs for watching movies or playing games. You will also have to run A/V cabling from the equipment to TV and most likely a basic IR system for your remotes.

In my case, I was doing a family friendly media room and wanted accessibility, ease of use and lower cost ove the benefits of the stealthy installation.

I was wondering how the remotes would react...

I am worried they will work spotty if I have everything behind the sectional...

Many of us like to hide the equipment out of the way, some even out of the room. Your typical remotes will need line of sight, so you'll either need to point them at the equipment (behind you?), or you'll need to run an IR sensor from the equipment to the front of the room. Alternatively, you can get an RF remote like a Harmony 890 or 900, along with some blasters. Do a search for RF remotes or IR blasters.

Short answer - it certainly can be done, but there will be some trade offs.
