Ok, after reading through this whole thread...has anyone finally been able to do DTS 5.1 96/24 transported by/through the Touch into their reciever?

I have some DVD-A's and some Blu-Ray concerts that I would love to get the audio off of. Ripping the audio out and encoding into .DTS files is the easy part.

I'd be very curious if the SBT crowd has any thoughts on this.

CD

A $500 iPad will have a 16GB HD. That's not a lot of room for music.

You don't have to keep the music on the iPad; you share it through iTunes.

I would keep your current setup and get a good Android tablet for half the money (at most) of an iPad. Then get Squeeze Commander for the tablet and you have your remote. Plus you can still surf, email, read an ebook, play games, etc., etc. without all the limitations of being on a iPad.

Heck, I bought a 7" Android Tablet for $75, loaded up a modded FW (all bloatware taken off) to make it run way faster and use that as my remote to my SBT. If I had to do it again, I would probably get one with a faster processor and longer battery life.

Got my Squeezebox Touch set up today. I love this thing. It sounds a lot better than my previous Squeezebox.

I,m using my Motorola Atrix with my lapdock. I downloaded the stock Squeezebox app for Android and use it full screen while also surfing at the same time. Like it a lot better than squinting across the room at the stock touchscreen! Works great. The tablet solution looks like a winner also. I also programmed my Logitech 1100 with an activity called Listen to Digital Music. It has all the remotes functions programmed and it is pretty slick that way just on a smaller screen.

OK SBT owners; sorry...need to go yet another direction, with regards to new remote. Some other expenditures with my system, keep me from an iPad(2), or even less-expensive Android alternative (for the record, if I were going that direction...this is the one that caught my eye http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...1&Tpk=le%20pan. Sure, there are some that are cheaper...but generally have smaller screen and get crappy reviews; and there are some that maybe have more recent versions of Android, and do more...but some of them are as much as an iPad(2), so what's the point) for the moment.

Still...I refuse to believe that there isn't a really, inexpensive solution available, that's better than trying to read my Touch from 10' away. Something used, on (fleec)eBay?

So what's the "sweet spot" here? If all, all, all I want is to use it as SBT remote...what's my best option; used iPod Touch, or used iPhone? What model, version; any thoughts on what to pay for it, etc?

Thanks,
CD

Check out merimobiles dot com for some inexpensive solutions. You can also look at slatedroid dot com for custom firmware to make it run substantially faster and friendlier. I'm running Modroid on my MID V7.

OK...let me get this straight: the iPod touch is now in its 5th generation...and $200...right? So how in the WORLD, is a 1st gen...with a smashed-up screen, that doesn't even work...worth $50 or better on (fleec)eBay!? Are you f'ing kidding me!?

Forget the Apple world; I guess I'm back to bluestang's suggestion, of $75 Android tablets.

Still 4th generation.

Hi all, I have a problem. I added some new albums to my SBT last week and for some reason there are certain albums(that ive been listening to for ages) that simply wont play. The SBT shows that it is playing but there is no sound.. All cables and connections are fine and no other settings have been changed. I reset all factory defaults on the touch as well as removing and then reinstalling the SBServer from my mac. It seems to be the same albums not playing. They are all ALAC and only one of them is high res. Ive exhausted all known ideas i have, anymore please.

Thanks in advance

I just updated my Squeezebox Touch software to version 7.7.0.

Tried to rescan my library and it failed to complete the scan. I've tried rebooting and reinstalling to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this?

Fortunately, everything still works, but eventually I'm going to want to add some more music...

and now when i open server preference pane it tells me there is an update to install, so i click 'install update' and it either does bugger all or crashes system preferences...for some reason the last few weeks the squeezebox server has really been pissing me off.. any ideas

The new server (7.7) seems to be a significant change from 7.6. I encountered some problems when upgrading, and ended up having to uninstall the old Squeezebox Server prior to being able to install the new Logitech Media Server.

Check the Squeezebox Forums for more information.
7.7 turned out to be a lemon for me. Used to crash during music playback or photo streaming. Uninstalled it, staying with 7.6.1 until things stabilize.

Well, it's a little reassuring to know I'm not the only one, but I don't see any solutions at the Squeezebox Forums.

I guess I'll try to find a version of 7.6 on the web and try a clean install of that.

EDIT: I got 7.7.0 to work. I uninstalled it from the Control Panel and then re-installed it. I tried to scan my library twice and it failed again, but I noticed that it seemed to get all my music and then attempt to scan my photos and videos folders - and that's where it hung up. I clicked on the "Library" tab and unchecked "Use iTunes" and then deleted the photo and video folders from the "Media Folders" box. This did the trick.

New SQB Touch owner...should have it in a few days. I have a few questions regarding FLAC . I'm using EAC to rip my CD's to FLAC. Do I need to find the metadata for each CD or will SQB find cover art and song titles on it's own? Do I need to make individual sub-folders for each album or will SQB sort these by album automatically?

Also, can I point to which file(S) the SQB scans for music during set-up? I have a ton of MP3 files in my Windows Media Player. I've made a sub-folder in my music folder for FLAC files. Since I have some albums that have been ripped to MP3 I want to make sure SQB doesn't pull both MP3 and FLAC files of the same album and make a duplicate.

Do I just make a new folder and dump all of my FLAC and wanted MP3 files in there, point SQB to that folder and let it do the rest?

The SBT will only show you metadata you have already saved - it won't seek it out for you.

Yes, the server software lets you choose which folder(s) to scan. It doesn't create anything - just like Media Player, it is only peeking into the folders. For instance, if your Music Folder has two subfolders in it (MP3 and FLAC), when you scan your Music Folder, your SBT will show you both folders. You can just navigate to the FLAC folder to play FLAC files and ignore the MP3 folder.

Thanks, so I need to find the metadata on all cd's in order to have album art show up on the SBT (just so I'm clear )

Also, do I need to put the albums in individual sub folders or can I lump all the FLAC files together in one folder and let SBT sort according to album?

Thanks!

Think of your SBT as "Windows Explorer." It isn't intelligent - you see the files and folders exactly as they are stored on your computer. No more, no less.

...

Not necessarily. If you use dBPoweramp, for instance, it has:

"PerfectMeta uses 5 meta data providers (AMG, GD3, SontaDB, Musicbrainz & freedb)"

There is a small licensing fee -- worth it if you have a large collection or are a collector.

I'm using dBPoweramp. Just trying to figure out tags and such. Will probably rip a few CD's, see how I like the tags when the SBT gets here, make adjustments to tags if needed then finish the daunting task of ripping the rest of my collection.

If you're using dBpoweramp:

1) Insert CD (PerfectMeta automatically attaches track names, composers high resolution album artwork, etc.)

2) Click a button (Rip)

3) Take CD out of drive

4) Repeat as needed

It's that easy.

I always check anyways. I found that every now and then something didn't work out. The biggest problem (which happened occasionally) was the album artwork sometimes wasn't correct. It also sometimes gets confused with artist vs. composer - that or it got it right but I didn't agree with it.

It's worth it to double check if you're at all anal about that stuff...

The free Squeezebox Remote Android app has been updated and fixes the scrolling problem it had before. Works great now on my MyTouch 4G phone.

The Squeeze Commander pay app is superb. The developer is constantly updating it, so it's a steal at the small price you pay.
