Logitech Squeezebox Touch Owners Thread - Page 29

With regards to LMS for Touch and SB's in general, I stayed on 7.5.3 because it works pretty well (low bug issues). Can anyone comment on the most stable release and value of moving up from 7.5.3? I only use the Touch to stream/listen to flac rips, no internet radio, etc. Also, I use the android Logitech app to control the system and it works pretty well too. Thanx!

I'm using 7.7.2 and it works fine.

Thanx! Glad to hear you think it is stable.
I was running 7.7.1 until recently, and I think one big improvement for me was the speed of rescanning your library. With recent word of Squeezebox "going away" I just upgraded to 7.7.2 to make sure I had the latest, and so far it's worked just fine for me as well.

What's the word on it going away?

The other reply to this made using a synology NAS sound a bit dicey. For what it's worth I use my SB Touch with a Synology DS110j and it works fine. The latest LMS releases have improved the speed of browsing and playing music from the diskstation. It's really not an issue. Rescanning my library probably takes a while; I don't really know--I have set it to scan my diskstation volume in the wee hours of the morning.

Yep, and Ill be on Windows 7 with my LMS server running just as it is now for many years to come, so my three SB Touches are good smile.gif Hell Ill probably pick up another couple for dirt cheap when they drop down in price in the used market.

Yeah, no reason to think it will stop working. I have LMS running on a dedicated QNAP NAS, so it's basically a self-contained media server. Hopefully it will continue to serve my Touch and Duet for at least a few more good years...

I'm keeping backup copies of LMS and Touch firmware just in case. Bought a new SB Radio to use in our bedroom while I could still get one. Good luck finding a dirt cheap Touch, look at how much Booms are going for now.

Oh good idea! I will do that too! And yea they are going for a lot now because people like us are scrambling to get them, but in a bit thatll die down and theyll be "worthless" I bet. Might be a year or so, but I dont care, Ill still use it.

Go back to post 809 and start reading.
You would need an amp between the touch and the speakers, unless you use powered speakers.

I'm glad I was browsing through the threads today. I had seen the change on logitech's website, but it didn't click for me until looking at this thread that the Touch was going bye-bye. I have two, one of which is running through my Jolida tube DAC, and sounds fantastic with my Denon 4311ci/McIntosh MC402/Revel Salon2 combo. I snagged a new unit from amazon, since it looks like there are already inflated prices on ebay. I like redundancy in my system, so this unit will go in my closet for that sad day when one of my units dies.

Good thing to know that the Squeezebox Touch has been discontinued. May be I'll be lucky to find one at a good price at best buy. Yesterday, I bought a Squeezebox Radio at Best Buy for $44.00 dollars with 2 years extended warranty biggrin.gif I bought it so my wife and I can use it in the garage or the back yard whenever we feel like listening to music. I must say I am very surprised and pleased with Squeezebox Radio. Now, I am waiting for best buy to put the Touch on clearance biggrin.gif

I wanted to buy a second one, but they only had one left over. That's probably why they had it at that price. I couldn't believe it Sat there for several days though. I don't think people are aware of what the Squeezebox is and what it can do. However, I am very please with the purchase.

You know if the SB Radio only had a line out I would have bought at least one a long time ago...

Are there any other MOG users having trouble playing music on their SBT?

My SBT loads MOG just fine, and I can select music, see album art, etc. But when I try to play a track, an error message pops up saying it's unable to open file.

MOG works fine on my computer (browsing with Firefox).

It does have a headphone jack, just no digital output.
Oh dang it does?! I didnt even see that! Well thats good enough to feed it into my bedroom sound system! Crap, might have to pick one up now.

How about the alarm clock feature? I heard it was inaccurate? Or there was some issue with it? Anyone have any comment on that? I'd be using it as an alarm clock as well.

Amazon and Vann's still have the radios for about $150, the battery/remote pack is separate.
Check the slimdevices forum about the alarm clock, I haven't tried mine, but I do seem to recall some issues with it.

Yes it really sounds like most of the people having issues with the alarm clock were due to not having a 24/7 server feeding the SB device. I do so I should be fine. Ill have to see if I can find a better deal on eBay though as $150 for an alarm clock is a bit more than I feel its worth.

After all the discussion about Logitech dropping Squeezebox support, I assumed the MOG issue was related.

As of last night, MOG still wasn't working, but this morning it's back to normal - working fine.

I haven't had any issues with MOG.

Logitech officially announced they have no plans to kill any Squeezebox stuff anytime soon.

Yeah, that's all well and good, heard it before from other Logitech employees. The problem is that these are very vague statements that have little value. Continued support of SqueezeBox means what?
- for how long? (at least give an absolute minimum time frame)
- current level of support includes long time unfixed issues (LMA, Pandora, Slacker)? Can't/won't fix existing issues is not a confidence builder for "future" support.
- new apps? (need podcast service and iHeartRadio)
- user forums will continue?

You are correct. But for me, since I host my FLAC files on my own 24/7 server all I care about is that they leave support for Pandora. The system has worked flawlessly for me, I have never once had any issues with LMS or the three Touches I have. Hoping to scoop up a Radio and another Touch too!

Me too! I got a good deal on the last Squeezebox Radio at Best Buy for $44.00 dollars with a 2 yr extended warranty from them. I am hoping to find a good deal on a Squeezebox Touch and possible 2 more radios biggrin.gif

GIven all the headaches recently with LMS having trouble with OSX Mountain Lion, I fear that we are only one or two OS upgrades away from no more LMS. Can you imagine Logitech still wanting to pay engineers to work on LMS upgrades for future OS's in another year, when they are not making any money off hardware sales any longer? I can't.

I'd like to get off the treadmill of closed standards, and the only option I am seeing is DLNA server and clients. Funny, LMS actually has DLNA capability at this point. But the SB's don't.

It won't be as full featured as LMS, nor SB's, but it's less likely to stop working....

Sad because I've been a SB user since before Logitech bought the company (kind of like Harmony).
