Logitech Squeezebox Touch Owners Thread - Page 30

ideally, Logitech would give us one last hurrah, making our SB devices DLNA compliant, which would get us several more years of service out of them, even if it's not full featured.

Compliant but not certified -- right?
The server I have running LMS is running Windows 7 and since I stay on OS's for many years (just upgraded to 7 this year from XP Pro), and since people are claiming LMS to work in Windows 8, I have a good 5-7 years the way I see it of Squeezebox support. By then there will be something else, or I will have MADE something else too host and stream my FLAC files!

Sure. Certified would be nice but even compliance would be useful. Heck, if someone releases a custom firmware, I'd pay to have the devices flashed to be DLNA clients.

Your approach will probably work and is probably prudent.

I tend to upgrade to the latest and greatest, at least interim patches, if for no other reason than I want all security updates -- and since I run other stuff on my server, often I have to upgrade the OS for those other apps to be happy.

Well I have the server (which runs lots of other server apps as well) set to auto update, so its always self applying the latest Microsoft pushed out security updates, and I had no issues with anything running on XP for years. What are you running that needs the latest and greatest?!

Although not precisely my problem since I'm not using this Mac as the music server yet, one small example: I cannot install the current iPhoto without upgrading not only to Mountain Lion, but all the patches released for it, as well, some of which are changing networking behavior (still not fixing it, by the way, as one can see from the Apple support boards).

I picked up one of these a few days ago. I've scanned through all the posts in this thread and there was only a couple that mentioned "clicks" when changing tracks. Was the cause ever determined? Something to do with the device and the receiver syncing perhaps? I'm running the SBT with coax into an Anthem MRX 500 AVR and getting this.

Also , if I manually select a track, the first split second is cut off.

I run mine with coax into a MRX 300, no clicks at all.
Is the firmware on your Anthem up to date?
You may want to post this in the Anthem forum and on the Squeezebox forums (forums.slimdevices.com)

Sorry I jumped the gun without getting to the firmware update. Anthems site was down last night when I tried to grab the firmware. Receiver had an ancient firmware and the latest version corrected the pops and chopped off tracks on the SBT and PS3 smile.gif Awesome little box when paired with Squeeze Commander .

Wondering if someone with some new UE badged Squeeze Radios or other devices could verify if whitebear works to allow J. river to see the devices as a zone.

I know it works for SBT etc.

I don't use Whitebear but I strongly doubt this will work.
Whitebear interfaces with the local server and the UE Smart Radios can't be controlled through that but only through the online service

It might be technically doable, but I'm sure it requires quite a bit of adaptation on the side of whitebear

Why not contact the Whitebear author and ask?

I need help with a couple of problems with my Squeeze Box Touch

1. I often get message, Cannot find file.

When this happens it freezes the system and I can not get it to go away easily.
I have files on my IMAC in Itunes folder, HD Tracks folder and Flac copies of much that is in ITunes folder in Phile Audio Folder--When I rip cd's I make AAC copy and FLACC copies
Is the duplicate copies a problem for software ?

2. SInce I got the APP update on my IPAD, it asks me to sign in with email address and password, every time I open App. Is there anyway to circumvent this--prior the APP did not require me to sign in each time

Thanks for any assistance

No clicks with my Touch connected to my Anthem AVM20 (v2.xx) via digital coax.

Anyone out there using a Raspberry Pi as their Logitech Media Server? Care to comment on its performance?

I love my SB Touch. I use an Apple Ipad as the remote for the SB Touch. The cost of the Ipad is worth it as a remote as I have over 48,000 song library and with the Ipeng App it works great to stream my music. I think you can also use an Ipad mini or an Itouch. Good Luck.

I wanna get a SB Touch, but they have been discontinued and the ones I've seen on ebay want an arm and a leg for them.

If your handy you can build one. Follow this link.

Has anyone tried to build one? I want to try it, but it doesn't mention anything about being able to contol it via smartphone or iPad.
You control the LMServer not the hardware player so there's no reason an iPad or iPhone won't work.

A couple of days ago I picked a new Squeezebox Touch at Best Buy - it was the floor demo so I received a 15% discount. There were no scratches on it and it looks great once I got all of the finger prints off of it with a micro-fiber cloth. I was lucky to find one.

I found a Squeezebox radio at Best Buy and with extra warranty I paid a little over $40 dollars. I wish I had found a touch one instead.

Sooo glad I got all my Squeezeboxes before they went crazy high on eBay! I have 3 Touches and 3 Radios so far and LOVE them all!
I have owned a Squeezebox Touch for just under a year and absolutely love it! Picked mine up for $231 on Amazon and now they are going for almost 4 times that new and more than I paid used. It is a shame they discontinued it as it was great value. I run mine wireless through the analog outs with no external DAC. I did use some of the server settings recommended by soundcheck's - audio@vise but other than that a stock unit. SQ is very good I think and although improvement could be made by using a DAC, that would end up costing close to 3 times the price of the SBT itself. I believe matched with the wrong DAC SQ could be made worse.
What are those aidio@vise settings? The blog is poorly organized.
Yes nathan_h. That is the one. I cannot comment on any improvements in sound as of yet but will let you know when I do some serious comparisons. You are in the Bay Area, very cool I am 150 miles east of there in the Sierra foothills.
Sorry nathan_h, I think I misunderstood your question. Here is a link to the page with the settings I used. http://soundcheck-audio.blogspot.fr/2011/11/touch-toolbox-30.html#more
Scroll down the page till you get to "IV. Modifications and Setup". It will give you the recommended settings as seen when using the advanced settings on the Logitech Media Server. Open the Server by right clicking the server icon at the bottom tray, then click "open web control" then go to bottom right corner and click on "settings" and follow the headings from there. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'll dig through that doc. Some stuff, like server priority, I have updated in the past but now that I see his list, I'm thinking "duh, I should have disabled all those plug ins I don't use long ago, to preserve resources and make LMS more stable".
