From Techradar:

"The LEX8 NANO FULL LED TV pushes the boundaries of viewing pleasure with its NANO Lighting Technology, which produces LG's brightest, clearest and smoothest picture yet," said LG's release.

Thin film

"An extremely thin film printed with minuscule dots positioned in front of a full array of LEDs disperses light more evenly and effectively across the screen, creating pictures that are clearer, enticingly smoother and more refined.

"What's more, an Anti-Reflection Panel on the LEX8 screen minimizes reflection from an external light source - including sunlight -- ensuring the picture always stays crystal clear."

LG's release goes on to explain that the LEX8 tech should improve localised dimming in both 2D and 3D with its 'Micro Pixel Control' and this should make a clear difference when paired with the company's TruMotion 400Hz.

Cheers

Not a drastic drop, not for a while, at least a month or so after the LEX8/LEX9 are officially released in North America, which could very well be May/June/July of 2011 knowing LG's release dates

Once people hear there's a new Model out, they're going to Wait for 1 of 2 things - the current Prices to go down, or wait to hear the First Reviews to see if the Current Model's Problems have been solved, and how much better it is! Either case, they stop buying and inventories build up and alarm people who worry about those things!

Just ordered the LG 55LE8500 and I'll have it by Thursday. I can't wait to get into calibration and start building my HT!
Just checked the Cnet "Best HDTVs" list. For 2010 LCD the LE8500 has been moved to the number 2 spot due to the new Vizio 533 being number one.

I checked my LE8500 and the great picture has not changed. Whew! It seems that although the Vizio can't beat the black level of the LE8500 it seems to not have banding or reflective screen.

I'll take the small issue of reflective screen issues and the banding (which I haven't seen very much of on my set) for the dark inky blacks.

I do not know, but where the speakers are hidden
without a 5.1 home theater, this tv is nonsense :S

Hey, I just ordered an LG 55LE8500 from amazon, to replace a Samsung LN52A650 because I want a bigger screen and I hear this model of Sammy has a short life expectancy. Anyway, where is the best source for spot-n calibration of this LG model? Thanks for any help.

The blacks on the 553 are also quite inky.

Both sets are very nice.

What is nonsense is buying a $3000+ TV and then skimping out on a half decent ~$300 HTIB set that would sound loads better than any built-in TV speakers ever would. For those people there are always gargantuan Rear Projection TVs with built-in subwoofers in the bottom.

Guys I apologize in advance if I am replying in the wrong section but I really need your feedback on this:

I'm a newbie & I'm replacing an OLD tube TV (yeah I know).

My sofa is around 9 feet away from the TV stand and this is what I'm looking for:

1. Don't care for 3D
2. Won't be playing games
3. Need internet connectivity with video streaming
4. Can't decide screen size !

I did some home work and I'm like considering the following:

LG Infinia LE8500
Samsung UNB8500
Sony XBR-HX909

I completely understand this is the 8500 thread and I wanted to get your feedback in comparison to the others.
Forgot to mention my budget is $5000.
Shirzo I would add the vizio xvt553sv to that list as it seems to be a great set.The LE8500 is excellent too but it doesn't have a matte screen like the vizio. The un55b8500 is hard to find now since it was discontinued.

My vote: Either the 47LE8500 or 55LE8500. (Nine feet away, the 47" is perfect, in my opinion. That's the size I went with at ten feet away. But the 55" one should also work. It's your personal preference, of course.)
Do you guys think a 55" is too big for a 8-foot watching distance ?

no.. that's just about ideal.. I am 9 away from my 55 and that is only because I chose a wall mount that goes out 28 inches.. another foot or 2 would be perfect.

At eight feet away from the TV screen, anything under 63 inches should be OK when it comes to watching perfect signal high definition channels. Keep in mind that if you watch the lower quality analog signals (such as from a DVR like ReplayTV or from a VCR), or any standard def with poor quality signal, the larger screen will accentuate the imperfections.

I hope the LG LEX8 3dTV will become available as a 2D only version. I'm not interested in 3D. I own numerous DVDs with an emphasis on the b&w classics, all of which were photographed and meant to be seen in 2D. Theatrical releases of 3D movies are doing poorly in the theaters because of the increased ticket prices. Future releases of DVD/Blu-Rays in 3D will be dependent upon the success they experience in their theatrical release. Also the technique is in its infancy, requires glasses, induces headachs, presents crosstalk., etc. As new technique evolve, the present 3Ds will quickly become absolete. Sorry to have sidetracked from the main topic. In a way it does relate to the topic at hand.

Not likely. All companies are doing a 3D push. The LEX8/LEX9 are 3D and 2D combo. You might have to wait for another model/series from LG or other brands to be exclusive 2D.

Just got my 47LE8500 today. Really excited about the picture quality.

My only problem is that when I pipe HDMI out of my Bluray through my tv and optical audio out to my receiver/surround sound decoder, I only get PCM which it decides is Stereo.

For my old setup (no hdmi) I was using an optical audio/component video switch, which I have put back in to service as an optical audio switch. The bluray player's optical audio out now reads as surround on my receiver.

Any ideas on how I can just use the optical audio out from the le8500 via it's HDMI sources?

Do you mean that you feed hdmi to the tv from the bluray player and then optical out from the tv to the receiver? If so, try hdmi out and optical out from the bluray player to the receiver. The tv most likely cannot pass anything but stereo out.
This is the set up I use. I have HDMI out from my blu ray into my 55LE8500. Optical out from my blu ray directly into my Receiver. This set up allows you to use either the tv's speakers, or your HT audio set up. I agreet that the LG will probably not decode 5.1 channels for output. Good luck.

I'm going to be a proud owner of a 55LE8500 this week some time (Here's hoping sooner then later) And to reward me for purchasing this awesome set Best Buy discounts it $500(In Canada) a week later. I'm so HAPPY !!

Anyways I doubt the store I bought it from will give me a credit, I guess that's what happens some times. I will post pics and thoughts when setup. I'm going from a Pioneer Elite Pro-930HD can't wait to see the difference.
BB and FS both give you 30 Day Price guarantee. If the price drops within 30 Days (Excepting Boxing Day Specials, don't know about Labour Day Specials?), they pay you back the difference in Cash, or if paid by Credit Card, back on your Credit Card. Just go back to the Store and request the Refund!
I would if I bought it from either, however I bought it at Gibby's in St-Catharine's. Even though they have price matching I doubt they will warrant BB's price.

www.areadvd.de just posted a video from IFA showing the new LEX8 Nano tv. Check out the video called "IFA: Erste impressionen von LG", Starting at 0:51. You can clearly se how well the new anti-reflection layer works compared to the LX9500.

OLED 31" - Still pretty reflective, but Thin! The Off angle viewing awesome! Will start saving today for a 55" when it eventually comes out.
After clicking on the IFA: Erste impressionen von LG at the www.areadvd.de website, click on the Up Arrow on the lower right to bring up LG's various videos.

Is anybody else noticing the supply of 8500's getting very low. I've been waiting for mine for 2 weeks now.
