Denon 3808ci - No sound. Intermittent Video. Any Suggestions?

I have spent time looking for a solution on the forums. If I have missed something, I apologize. I will start by letting you in on my setup.

Everything is ran through HDMI into the receiver, then one HDMI to the TV. I have a PS2, xbox, cable box, and HD DVD player (yes, it's a big paper weight). I have a 5.1 setup with another pair of speakers on the back porch (Surround B). They are turned on when we have people over for parties.

I was watching TV with my son when I heard a click (same click heard when switching settings or inputs on the receiver). After this click, the sound was off on the receiver. My first reaction was thinking that either myself or my son had sat on the remote and changed a setting somehow. However, the remote was on the table and not within reach. Ever since then, I have had no sound.

I have tried a reset, using only optic, analog, and about every other way I could think of to attempt to get sound. The receiver will not even play a test tone at this point. I am sure it is a hardware problem but I am not very familiar with the interworkings of receivers...so I am stuck.

During this time of trial and error, I also noticed that video throught the HDMI's was very intertmittent. Some sources worked while others did not. The last time that I checked, I was able to get video from all sources. I'm not sure if the problems are related, but I wanted to give as much information as possible.

Any suggestions at all would be appreciated. I've recently took the cover off and looked around to see what I could see. All the fuses that I was able to located seemed to be fine. I also have a multi-meter which I could use to test some things if anyone had any suggestions on what to try.

You tried an AVR processor reset? How to do one should be listed in your owners manual.

Yes. I have hold the DSP Simulation and another button when the unit is hard powered off. Then hold them and turn it on, wait for three blinks...etc. It didn't work. I tried the test tones before and after this.

Kinda sounds like a problem I once had with my reciever. I would check for shorts/grounds in all the inputs and speaker wires (going both into speakers and into reciever). I didn't see the ground but after I took them out and put them back in again I never had that problem again.

As of today I just re-installed all inputs and speaker wires. They all seemed to be installed correcty. I was half hoping it was one of those problems that corrected itself. No such luck. I think this is going to be an expensive fix. I'm thinking it's a problem in the processor...could be relay though. That would explain the click that I heard when the sound cut off. However, I have no clue which one or where to start.

And thanks to everyone for their input so far.
