dual link dhmi to dvi?

My PC is down the hall in another room. I just have a monitor/mouse/keyboard/sound at my desk. ie, video cable/usb/audio.

I wanted to clean it up a bit and ran HDMI in the walls with wall jacks at my desk and the computer - ugh.. display is ****ed now. I looked.. and yes, the hdmi to dvi cables i have plugged into the walls aren't dual linked. ok.. fine.. so where do get dual link hdmi to dvi Do they even make them?

the thought of bashing the wall open again and then fixing it (again) hurts my brain The PC side is easy to fix. I can just get a hdmi out card (5870 or a gtx 480.. or whatever) but.. my monitor doesn't have hdmi in...

thoughts? (tho sadly i think i need to re-run a dual link dvi in the wall again >.< )

i7, windows 7 (none of this matters), gtx 260 tri-sli
monitor: LaCie 730 2560x1600 30" screen ( http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=11095 )

the cables in the walls *should* be fine. High Speed 1.3a hdmi. 10.2 Gbps etc... ( http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 )

thoughts? suggestions for cables? adpaters?

I do not think you will find true dual link dvi to hdmi. There are not enough pins on the hdmi to accept all 24 pins of pins of dual link dvi. (not counting the flat bar) Six are missing I believe on the single link and that is really all you will find. It will give you a maximum resolution of 1080i I believe and of course can carry no sound.

sound doesn't matter.. but look @ wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI - it looks like hdmi single link can handle 2560x1600 - but there is still the dvi part of the problem.

newegg has some stuff:

How long is the HDMI run?

it is only 15'

it is the dvi-hdmi cable that is the problem

I pulled in my htpc (5780) near by and did the hdmi to dvi.. *sigh* 1280x800 too...

1280x800 is the max i can get from my desktop (via the hdmi i the wall), laptop hdmi to dvi (short) and htpc doing hdmi to dvi.

very odd.. the same cable from the htpc dvi to hdmi in my tv does 1080p.

hopefully someone can come up with something before monday when i overnight new dvi to dvi dual link cables and bash my walls open again

Maybe some of the links I found using Bing will help:

http://www.bing.com/search?q=dual+li...=n&sk=&sc=1-14

If you have one of the 120Hz gamer PC displys the dual link is required to pass 1080p/120 using a graphics card and cable that supports it instead of the standard 1080p/60 supported over single link.

well, I ordered a dual link dvi to hdmi (don't think it will work) and a new dual link dvi/dvi cable. If the dual link dvi/hdmi works.. great.... if not.. wall bashing time! *cry*

not shocker. Got a dual link dvi to hdmi cable and it no workie.
Didn't really expect it too.. but.. the unlogical chance of it working and not having to redo my walls was strong.

there is no such thing as a daul link dvi to hdmi cable. (unless type B hdmi comes out... then it might)

Dude, it's already been answered. It's not going to happen. HDMI has fewer pins then dual link DVI. HDMI 1.3a with 10gbps bandwidth uses a new and incompatible signal to achieve similar to dual link DVI bandwidth levels. You will need to buy a monitor that supports HDMI 1.3, a single link DVI compatible monitor or run a new dual link DVI cable through the wall. Those are your only options. That's it.

edit: Your only other option is to find (or have made) some sort of ACTIVE adapter to convert HDMI 1.3a high bandwidth to dual link DVI. Unlikely.
