NFL on Fox Graphics Overhaul?

Stumbled across this earlier today, apologies if there's a similar thread -- I looked but couldn't see one anywhere.

Apparently this guy's design firm was contracted by Fox Sports to take a look at modernizing and reshaping their on-screen graphics package. In his words:

Quote:

FOX Sports knew that they had issues with clarity and readability issues with their sports statistics. The goal was to give them a new and unique look, as other networks were borrowing their look and style. They wanted something that was simple, timeless, and readable. The images shown are just a small fraction of what we did for them.

This was all found at http://cargocollective.com/michaelcina via http://www.behance.net/Gallery/Fox-Sports/477338 -- it appears legitimate.

Personally I like some of the ideas here, but the thin serif for the scores and some of the overall polish seems to be pretty lacking here, which is partly why I didn't consider it truly official until looking into his website and portfolio and it all seems to be pretty legitimate.

I'm told FOX is going to revamp their graphics for the NFL, but they are doing it in house, and none of the images above represent what they are considering.

Sorry.

that looks TERRIBLE

Thank God as those are awful. Could those things take up any more of the screen? Jeez!

Those suck. Graphics should NOT cover up the field of play. And even without that issue they still suck.

Looks Like the next Madden Video game.

lol

LOL at those in here who thought these were final drafts.

I didn't know VIZrt could look so bad!

These graphics are terrible. NFL would have rocks for brains to accept them.

Had to be an April Fool's prank.

I like the philosophy behind these, even if the final product isn't so polished. Clean lines. Simple. Easy to read.

As far as I'm concerned, the LESS the better. Especially during a play. Leave it all off while they are playing, IYAM.

My personal favorite is the 3rd one down with the score in the MIDDLE of the screen.
I'm not so sure that site isn't a spoof.

Here's a suggestion.

LEAVE IT THE WAY IT IS.

For FIRST drafts they sucked. Even if they were just IDEAS for first drafts they sucked. Jenna Jameson has sucked less than these pics.

FOX Sports knew that they had issues with clarity and readability issues with their sports statistics.

That's why they used that look for 4 years.

One thing I do like is the fact that the Steelers are up 24-8 against the Cowboys less than 4 and a half minutes into the game.

Heh, I totally agree that they aren't polished and don't reflect what Fox or any of us would want to see.

I think some of the concepts are interesting, and it's possible Fox would've asked an outside firm to do some quick concept work for them or something, but no I don't expect to see these on air as-is next season.

That said, either Michael Cina needs to more accurately display his work as conceptual, or it is entirely false -- in which case, that's too bad .. as he's clearly got a lot of work up there and it'd be unfortunate if it was all faked or in some way misrepresenting who and what his portfolio of work has been.

I wonder (I hope) if they're planning a major overhaul on their graphics, they also consider going to full time 16:9, ala Fox News. That way they can move graphics to the far corners of the screen. I'd really like a small box for the score in one corner.

They can't do that. The SD broadcast is basically just the HD broadcast with the sides cut off. One feed.

Ever watched NBC primetime TV or Fox News? Heard of letterboxes?

Letterbox is fine for most shows, but American Idol and sports? I don't think FOX will ever do that.

On my local standard definition NBC, none of their shows are letterboxed unless they are like that on the HD broadcast (with the side bars.)

They could do it on sports, but the graphics would be oversized. That might not be so bad (like the WSOP on ESPN HD), or it might be a horrible disaster (like Fox News HD).

Wow, 21 to 14 with 10:34 left in the first. Go Minneapolis!

Chicago Rams vs. the Baltimore 49ers!

Miami Bears vs. the Cleveland Broncos!

I personally like the box to be at the bottom like NBC and ESPN have theirs. I find CBS' to be more confusing of the bunch. Fox's is pretty straight forward.

I think we are about 98 days from camps opening

Death to the stupid FOX robot-thingie.
This guy updated his Facebook page to reflect that it actually was something he did for Fox. Either he's lying, or truly has no concept of designing for TV.

Of course those are fake. There's no way one could think that looks good.

It looks like it's from tecmo bowl or some other 1980s era video game.
