HTPC help with ATI Catalyst Drivers

Thread Starter
im currently running a windows 7 system powered by a radeon 4350 with native hdmi connection, the monitor being 1024x768 res.
my setup is to connect the hdmi to our family tv which is a 1920x1080 res hdtv
i have ati catalyst 10.3 installed

basically my intention is to play video files through MPC-HC on my tv while i can still do casual surfing. If i i cant run any other tasks while playing the video, then its ok to live without it.

what i tried to do was use clone, however i found out that its not feasible due to res differences.next i tried extended, but im really confused abt it because my monitor was showing normal desktop while my tv only showed the wallpaper.i also found out that my mouse goes way beyond the desktop edge due to the extended more.

then i discovered the functions of 'windows' key + P which was to let u choose the mode u want,i tinkered around and found the projector only mode which sort of suits my intentions, but causes my monitor to sleep.

is there any other suitable way to achieve what i actually want??it sounds easy but the software doesnt seem user-friendly

I have a 1280x720p PJ on HDMI and a 19" 1440x900??? on VGA. Get the vga working and create/save a profile in the CCC. Then using CCC switch to the other monitor (HDMI) and get it working... then create/save another profile using CCC. Be sure to use the CONFIGURE by Right-clicking on the CCC's display setup and reduce the overscan to zero which should yeild the best image on your display. Now when you turn off/on the HDMI display the image will revert to the vga and back... Both of these ase not clone, but single monitor configurations. One more thing is to configure a Hot Key sequence during your profile saving to yeild a keyboard option to force to one or the other. Hope this helps.

Two solutions.

1. Use Theater Mode. In CCC, advanced mode, set the monitor as the primary display 1024x768 and TV as extended desktop at the TV native resolution (in this mode, you can set the resolution for each display independently). Then go to AVIVO Video and click on Theater mode. Set Theater mode overlay to Theater Mode (full screen). save changes and exit. Now start MPC HC in windowed mode on your monitor. Video will display in full screen mode on your TV while you control it from the small window on your monitor. Open firefox or whatever and you will be able to surf while mpc keeps running in the background and displaying full screen on your TV.

ATI has supported this for years. It does what you want it to do, work while watching video on your TV.

2. The other solution is to drag the shortcut for MPC onto your extended desktop. Then double click it and it will launch on your extended desktop. Control it from the extended desktop.

Personally I prefer #1 because it keeps everything on the primary display. Maybe that's just me. Try both.
