I have an asus g73 laptop with ati mobility 5870 1gb ddr5, and I7 procesor, will I be able to see 3d content just with the glasses + projector + laptop.
I think that my HDMI is 1.3, is this a problem for 3d viewing?
Thank you

Yes, you should be able to get 3d out of this hardware on the projector; you will need the software - latest driver, player (TMT, PDVD). There is new information on this setup, check the other threads on gt720, including in the 3d Central section. The latest is using the DLP-link mode with cheap DLP-link glasses. A potential problem is the projector's firmware not being up to date.
The 1280x720@120Hz output is Hdmi1.3 compatible.
Good luck and enjoy.

So, do the GT720s (and GT700s) still require a firmware update to display 3D? What if it will be used with the Optoma 3d-xl or some other converter?
Mine (bought around Cristmas) worked out of the box, no update required.

The convirter provides the same signal as the htpc, so I expect, yes, they will need the update.
I can only find it at BestBuy. Does anyone knows if the current BestBuy units have the firmware update to use Nvision out of the box?
This is not of to much concern. The files are available to make it work even if the FW is not updated over on the 3D Vision forums. The stand alone box converters shouldn't care at all if it's updated or not.

Thanx John. As I'm not from the US, it would be problematic to rely on Optoma HQ to update the unit. As you say the box converters shouldn't care, I'm more releived.
I will use this unit to build a multitouch table and will research 3D uses for this table trying to combine viewport corrections for not aligned 3D view and 3D "touch" using MS kinetic. My other projector option would be a Mitsubishi EW230U-ST, but it seems to not have a 1280x720p 120Hz mode, only 1280x800 120Hz. I think this will be problematic if one day I decide to use a 3D box converter. As the GT720 "should" be Nvision compatible, this give it a headstart.
Does anyone knows a "cheaper" 3D converter box than the Optoma 3D-XL?
Has anyone else experienced any dust blobs with this projector. I bought a refurb and it was only covered for 90 days so I'm SOL sending it back to Optoma unless I want to pay for it.

My review from this new 3D ready DLP projector will be soon online.

I'm gonna give the Optoma GT720 a try. Needed something to travel with to play PS3 and watch the occasional movie when camping...etc. I found it new for $599 with Free Shipping here. Maybe this helps someone looking for it a a sale price.

No factory warranty from there. I bought one of these locally for a test run in 3d comparing to my Sammy 61" DLP LED TV. Quick equip summary is: HTPC with Win 7 64, MSI Hawk GTX 460, Power DVD 10 ultra 3d, UC DLP link 3d glasses, the rest is fluff. Well the GT720 has a fair pic and it displays it huge. I can see the 720p diff easily though it is huge and looks good. I can't help but note my difficulty getting 3d to work via HTPC, what an a$$tear. It finally worked via a auto detect 120Hz LCD setting. So great, it is working but wait a minute, the depth sucks and might as well be 2d with reduced quality and lighting. WTH? Not to mention the 720 is not a 120Hz LCD projector.

So for clarity, resolution and 3d depth my 3 year old Sammy LED DLP TV is killing this projector in 3d with the same HTPC, software and 3d glasses. I was prepared to be blown away with this projector in 3d and find myself completely underwhelmed. I thought bigger should be better and it is with the 720 despite it's native resolution. Watching normal HD cable via HDMI it really does a good job and is totally acceptable but the 3d performance leaves a ton to be desired. No better than the 2d version.

Any hints, tips or wise words before this goes back and I await the next gen? After all, I have a very capable 3d unit now, just that it is 61" and unless you get close, looks like you are viewing an old kids 3d viewtoy in a tunnel at times. (I am in a 22'x24' room so size matters) I want to get more glasses and have a larger audience.

Thanks for any constructive input.
480p via cable box through the HDMI input sucks BTW. Guess there is no upscaling there or it is poor. Watchable yes, quality stinks though. My Samsung DLP does a better job with this signal. Perhaps it is because of the input where there is no processing. At any rate it sucks. Probably because the pic is so big it reveals everything. Still testing the unit.
Aaaaallllrighty then. May be on my own on this one. Luckily I have only had the unit 3 days. Unfortunately I went back on shift yesterday and 12 hour days leave little time to play with this. So I work 4 on and 4 off. My next days off will determine if I keep this.

I have only tested it via Charter cable, HTPC and blu ray. Still little love on the 3d via Powerdvd 10. Just looking for if anyone has this unit working without Nvidia IR glasses on 3d. Looking in Nvidia control panel I cannot set the unit to 1024x720 at anything above 60Hz. Any ideas on this? Should I be using something besides the HDMI input? If I need a firmware update the unit will promptly go back to the store.

If I cannot get 3d working on this like I want, then I can wait until there is a proper unit that does what I want. I have fooled with the pic, it looks really good for 720p as big as it is, and found I really like the short throw. I want to keep the unit despite it not being 1080p, but if the 3d does not work out it is out of here. Gonna post something in the 3d forums as well. Thanks for any help because the clock is ticking on this unit.

BTW, the remote stinks as far as the useless buttons that I always want to press intuitively and they do nothing. Yes, buttons on a remote that do nothing and are designed/positioned such that you want to use them to navigate. Geez. As they say on ESPN football coverage: c'mon man.

Edit: To counter my previous post, 480 anything is going to generally suck without serious processing when displayed on a 100" plus screen. After watching closely on my 61" Sammy DLP, I realized it only sucked less because the picture was not as big. Magnify 4 times and you can really see it.

1280x720 or 720p on the nvida-you mighta just typoed.
Native: 1280x800 Pixels ,It does 120hz its a dlp link pj
post #76 of 109
You did not mention a 3d vision emitter; you need that for 120 Hz sequential s3d from the nvidia card to the projector. See here for a possible workaround.

Also, there seems to be a problem with PowerDVD and 3d vision. See here. Try TMT5, it works fine with nvidia.

As I've stated before, the 3d from this projector is gorgeous.
I am not interested in 3d at this time, but would like a nice pic for movies and gaming. Mike, what do you like and dislike about the gt720 as far as 2d gaming from Xbox 360 and PS3? And using these consoles for movie playing, DVD and BD? Thanks for the help!!!
Question to you GT720 owners. When you turn the projector on. When playing video games or anything full screen. Do you have a part of the image that has light but no image at all? Best way to tell is by putting in a full screen movie while having a white wall or something. No black at all. Anyone see if they can see the light? Someone in this thread took a picture of there screen before while watching avatar. If you look at the bottom left of his pic. You can see what I'm talking about. I'm guessing this is normal but others tell me it is not. Any help?

Here the link to his post.

Are you refering to the "black" bars above and below the image? This is from the 10:16 800p native resolution projecting 9:16 720p. I can hardly see the darkened bars.

Get 3D Blu ray to play on my PJ GT720

Yes, it is normal, although I cannot know what it looks like in your case - how visible the bars are should depend on the picture settings of the projector. In the picture you linked, I could not see them, I only guessed. As I mentioned, on my gt720 (Standard mode), they are hardly visible in non-3d mode; they are clearly visible only in DLP-link 3d mode when watched without glasses. Check your 3d menu, you may be in 3d mode if they bother you.

[...]

1. You need a BD drive and ArcSoft TMT5 (I am a PDVD10 owner, which also works, sortof...)
2. I am happy with the cheap UltraClear DLPlink from 3dHeaven; see thread in 3D Talk forum.
3. No time for photos, sorry. The 2d picture is very impressive, but I am still new to projectors. The pixels can be seen at 1:1 viewing distance, though (not in 3d). Overall, very happy.
4. HDMI-HDMI or DVI[edit]-HDMI, both work.
5. Watch for the switched eye-view when the 3d starts playing; I correct from the PDVD menu. Expect to need a darker room.

Enjoy, and stay in control of your lower jaw.

Is that a fair trade? Yes, that's me asking a real question. As I know nothing about projectors.
Going by newegg and amazon, the 66 and 700 are in the same ballpark.
What's the differences between the two?
Difference between gt720 and gt700? Nothing that I've seen.
Hmmm, there must be something different.
