I'm excited. The more cool games to hit the better...

curious, why do many here dislike Gears 2 so much. I actually liked it better in ways. Gears 1 was way too short, less then 8 hrs my first time through, felt like a total rip off to me.

I really liked 2, besides the final boss fight, I thought it was a fine game. I imagine most people didn't like it because of the MP aspect of it.

Pretty much. I am a SP person (for the most part) so I really liked GOW2. If you are primarily a MP person, then you'd probably be disappointed.

The worst part about the MP was the Host advantage. They should do away with it altogether.

I loved Gears and Gears 2, beat 'em both on Hardcore. Gears 3 looks to be even better than the first two!!!

I'm a little curious as to why some liked the 1st but not Gears 2? I have only played Gears 2, played through the campaign and occasionally play Horde.

I've played both several times each, and I find this perspective curious too. GOW2 had better graphics, better framerate, better controls, more weapons, more level variety, more enemies and Horde mode which could be its own game. It really was bigger, better and more badass. And I don't see how any of those points are even subjective.

Maybe it's something to do with the multiplayer but it seemed just as busted in both. Or maybe some enjoyed the story more in the 1st? I don't play Gears for the story and have no opinion on this.

I think it's more likely just a case of rose colored glasses. The 1st was something so new and defined the platform. The 2nd could be seen as just more of the same. I'm obviously just guessing here because I see GOW2 as clearly superior to the already great GOW1.

If anyone with an opposing position would like to share their reasoning, I'd be interested?

I think we've been over this hundreds of times...and it all comes down to multiplayer

Gears 1
- Fast paced
- awesome shotgun battles
- randomness of people dying usually led to hilarity when playing with friends

Gears 2
- bloated by gears 1's success, cliffy nutsucker decides to make the game "strategic"
- grenade plants...how many title updates have there been so far to fix the rag doll issues?
- slowed down shotgun..absolutely killed the game.

Another feature that weakened both games, imo, is party chat. When you're down to 1 v 1 and you have people telling you where the other guy is via ghost cam, it's no fun...and they also tell you where grendade plants are...what was the point of plants if your buddies tell you where they are?

What he said. (Hey there, Rakesh, BTW!) On the other hand, if GoW 3's MP is able to recapture the magic from the GoW 1 glory days, then I'd be back in a second. The original MP was an absolute blast and provided some of my all time favorite videogame experiences.

I thought the weakened shotgun and grenade plants were awesome changes for Gears 2. I played ten times more Gears 2 online than 1.

I Gears1 was more raw. I've had the best online experiences ever on it. It was addicting fun especially if your playing with friends. Shotgun and sniper battles. Booting people was the best part.

I've played gears2 since it came out and still playing it now. But not as much as I use to though. The shot gun and sniper sucked compared to gears1. Clif wanted a more tactical gaming experience with only ranked matches. Which I thought ruined the MP altogether. But now with their latest update, they put in "social" MP. That's what it should have been from day one. Gears2 was leaps and bounds over 1.

I have, I just don't remember a Carmine...

IMHO, GoW2 is far better than GoW1 in almost every aspect.

With that being said, the drop-in drop out aspect of the multiplayer campaign was better in GoW1. I do not know why they removed it. Halo 3 campaign was great with 4 player multiplayer, but there is no matchmaking and one can only play with invited people. In GoW2, you join people randomly but do not know who. As long as they have some sort of matchmaking (ie, search screen) and one can join in progress, the campaign in GoW 3 will rock especially if it is 4 player.

Going back and forth from GoW1 to GoW2, host advantage is extremely annoying in GoW1. The fact that one could pick and choose which game/map in GoW1 was nice. With that being said, so many times the host would shut down the room once he or his team was loosing. There were so many glitches in GoW (running and shot gun blasting for example), that it became extremely unfun. In GoW2, matchmaking is a bit better, and they have taken a Halo type approach with the map selection etc.

I agree with the comment about GoW 1 being more raw. Its kinda like GoW1 = terminator, and GoW2 = terminator 2. As long as GoW3 no equal to terminator 3 (except for Kristinna Loken, now she was pretty hot), I think the GoW finnalle should be pretty good.

Think Saving Private Ryan scenario and see the link and you will probably get an idea what it is all about behind the Carmine's.

Not suprised. Video Games releases are getting closer and closer to TV's Prime Time Scheduling. You pit your big guns against your competitors.

Sad for 2011, this likely means that nothing super exciting is coming out next holiday.
