My biggest annoyance though is still with the shotgun because it seems like my bullets simply dont register, whereas I'm always getting downed first or exploded. Is that because everyone going against me is using active reloaded bullets all the time? Anyways, I'm going to be practicing running around with a shotgun against bots and seeing if I can get better that way.
The good news, single player in this one is a ton of fun and well worth the money of the game so even if I get annoyed with multiplayer and never touch it again, I feel like I'm getting my money out of the game until MW3 comes around.
Alot of inconsistency is caused by P2P lag. Something you have to learn to deal with. Only been out a week but dedicated servers are supposed to alleviate this but have been down a few times already.
As for tips.
Protect your distance. Any of the rifles can drop an onrusher with even a little distance due to stopping power.
Learn to move before shooting. Sliding into cover. Jumping over objects. How to roll back and side to avoid shots , "wall bouncing" etc.
Use the retro lancer or double barrel. This will boost your close quarter ability and at least give you some confidence until you can adapt.
Generally I suck in shotgun battles..like atrocious. So some tips on how to cope.
Stick with your teammates.
Cover your teammates.
Dont be afraid to run the hell away soon as someone with a SG is close.
Think of it as a power puncher getting close..dont stand and swing if you can avoid and get into YOUR range.
Warzone is a more "neutral" game mode. Rushers will risk getting killed from a distance.
Execution forces you to get up close to kill so this is good if you need practice.
Play TDM or KOTH/ANNEX that way you can respawn over and over and get more practice in.
