Gears of War 3!!! - Page 22

Finished the campaign the other day on Hardcore...the boss isn't that hard but takes WAY too long to kill. Seriously, it took 4 of us nearly 30 minutes of nonstop shooting.

I think there's a ton of holes in the story that they never address, even things that the final boss tells you. Do they just expect you to read the books or something?

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it though. Beat Horde on Casual, I can't even imagine the last 3 levels on Hardcore or harder. Unlocked the Silverback last night and at wave 30 I had earned more than 2x the cash earned of our next highest teammate, it's freaking beast.

Awesome, I need to beat the campaign as well. I really havent' played more of it since the last time we played. I've mostly played horde which hasnt' been that much either.

The silverback is amazing, I don't think I know all the controls for it though. Doesn't it shoot rockets too? or is that an upgraded version of it that I don't have yet?
I'm pretty sure you need to be at level 2 for the Silverback to have the rockets and even then, you need to tap A to become mobile cover (it roots itself) and then you can shoot them.

The books show stuff like how they stole the Hammer of Dawn from the independents and who Bernie Mataki (the old woman with a 38 year old voice) is. The comic books are where Jace and the new character upcoming the DLC come from. They don't answer any of the big questions about the Locust.

Quoting myself to ask this again. Some of these posts seem like they get dangerously close to giving stuff away...

Yeah maybe there should be a seperate spoiler thread for people who have finished the game and want to discuss it. I don't know when I'll be able to finish the whole campaign and I'd prefer not to know how it ends.

I intentionally kept my post spoiler free, but I'd be all for a spoilers thread.

I picked up the Beast Mode achievement - 12 waves of human killing on my first attempt (normal difficulty).

I'm gonna need a party of 3 to go through the game on Insane. Anyone interested?

I just want to finish the game, don't care what difficulty. so if you see me on i'm in :P
post #642 of 943
Ran a few matches with our "regular crew" last night, and for the first time, got that old Gears 2 host advantage feeling, where you really couldn't touch the guy...downing people from accross the map/2-shot downs with the Gnasher...All I can say, is, I can do without that in my life...that sh*t just raises my blood pressure...
These were different rooms, at the beginning, and the end of the night. In between that time, we pretty much ran the rooms like normal. Mostly wins, and top in kills, etc...
We run TDM, normally...did some KOH, at the end...And Quickmatch, never Ranked...(where I am told the servers have priority...)

Yeah I'd give it a shot with ya

For those of you who went straight to multi-player, I figured I would let you know that the medium, or default campaign difficulty is about as difficult as Gears 2 on EASY.

Gears vets may want to start the game on HARD, otherwise you will breeze through the campaign.

Sweet. Buc, Gold, and Ell Dude, when shall we begin this endeavor?
Well, tonight probably works for me, but I won't be available til the wife get's home from work - probably a bit after til 8pmCST or so.

I recommend you guys try it in arcade mode. It just makes it seem kind of like playing horde mode. The key diff is that you don't have to restart every time a single person dies, which means much less repetition and frustration. Still counts towards the same achievements though.

i enjoyed the 3D to be honest... worked great on my end

I can't get over the way it looks like you're always traveling uphill. Beyond that it kind of looks like 3D cardboard cutouts set up in a diorama, but I just can't get past the artifacts and aberrations. I've seen good 3D...this ain't it.

More importantly you take care of the Arcade achievements as well this way. In terms of achievements, best way to play the campaign is to go solo on whichever of the 1st 3 difficulties you wish. Then do Insane/4-player co-op/arcade together. Because good luck doing Insane yourself, only way by "yourself" would be to plug in a 2nd controller and put it to casual and your profile to Insane and just hang back with the Insane player and take care of business with the "casual" player. Or of course do Insane with 1 controller, good luck there. I know there are people that can do it, but that person is not me

I have finished the game (except last level) on insane by just joining random people in arcade mode. Most of the game is really not that bad

(except a few spots, in particular the lambent human levels (wtf were they trying do do, make it like L4D, except much harder??)
). If you have some mutators (infinate ammo, active reload that gives extra damage, et), it will really be a breeze.

That being said, I spent nearly 2 hours last night with 3 others with some mutators on, and we could not kill the last boss after the 2nd (3rd) time that stupid bug attacks the tower. There is an infinate amount of elite guards that spawn (ala CoD style), that take you down in 1-2 hits even from across the map, along with the bug zapping you from a distance. If that was not enough, if you do not continuously atack the bug, it eats through the building and you fail the mission. Reading up trying to find a solution, most people are having problems, and the posted solution is for 3 people to play on casual, and 1 person on Insane (and hide behind the sandbags at the elevator at the beginning) and then replay for each person that needs to finish on insane. The only other solution that might work is to play alone, as it seems that the more people in the game, the harder it is. I will give a go tonight solo to see if it works (plus I need to work on getting some of the mutators). If you need an extra person for your insane run, let me know. I need to play Act 1 (Prologue and Ch 6) and last chapter in 4 player co-op for that achievement.

So you can still get the achievement with the cheat mutators on?
Big spoiler in your post about the lambents, deveng. Also, they are not that difficult with the retro lancer charge.

bd, the mutators only affect your XP (ones that make it easier give you less XP, harder more XP), not achievements.

Yes, achievments are still attainable with the Mutators activated.

The Super Reload Mutator is the one to use if you try Insane. You can take down Boomers, Kantus, Corpsers with half a clip of Lancer fire.

How do you unlock that one?

You have to unlock the Bronze 'Master at Arms' medal. Which is a certain number of kills with all five starting weapons in Versus.

The starting five are - Hammerburst, Lancer, Retro Lancer, Gnasher, and Sawed Off.

I think it's 100 each, check the medal in your stats page. It'll list how many you have / need.
For those interested in Mutators here's the list and the requirements to get them.

I've got the super active reloads mutator (haven't used it yet) so I'll use that. I probably won't be on that early Dude, probably closer to 9.

That works for me... I don't have any mutators
