I'm not seeing that. I'm seeing reference to the SD card in a brief discussion of BD-Live on page 21. And the portions of the manual I checked (pages 7 and 21) don't say an SD card exclusively is necessary for that (in other words, it's silent on USB drive use for BD-Live). Unless I'm missing it, there's no statement to the tune of an SD card being required just to get basic playback of some BDs. I think we've learned of this "in the field"/through playback trial and error.
