I'm not seeing that. I'm seeing reference to the SD card in a brief discussion of BD-Live on page 21. And the portions of the manual I checked (pages 7 and 21) don't say an SD card exclusively is necessary for that (in other words, it's silent on USB drive use for BD-Live). Unless I'm missing it, there's no statement to the tune of an SD card being required just to get basic playback of some BDs. I think we've learned of this "in the field"/through playback trial and error.

Well I've watched the whole starship trooper trilogy on BD with no problems. Have a cheap 8gig SD card in it I picked up on sale.
Edit* At least I'm pretty sure it was the 350 I watch it on and not my LG BH200, now I'm going to have to check when I get home.

Ok, it loads and plays on the 350 (latest firmware). You can try an SD or not, it's up to you.

Just got the 300 off eBay two days ago without a bit of a hassle, however.
The player received with fairly extensive physical damage to the front tray door and the main chassis appeared warp plus missing all the accessories like I saw in his ad.
A quick email to the seller and another quick phone call to follow up a telecon with him.
I'm happy to report that the seller had agreed to refunde the $$$ and best yet, I get to keep the player plus all the missing accessories to be shipped at a later date.
After a trip to Low's to get the necessary repair kit (Super glue). Now the left tray door can now be opened and closed at will and the lady luck was good to me on this one: the player powered up just fine.
After completing all the necessary mating 7.1 outs to my Outlaw 990 7.1 ins as well as other cables.
Putting in the Avatar 3d disc. A few seconds later...Voila!
Not only does my Outlaw sings to its 7.1 glories as well as the 300 putting the best 3d I've seen to date. (I've been previously playing all of my 3d contents via my HTPC/PDVDU10).
One minor quirk though is that during 7.1 set up my sub does not seem to have any test tone and I suppose this is normal? Can anyone chime in on this? I do hear LFE pumping out during the Avatar playback though.

Yeah - the 300 does not put a lfe test tone. I calibrated using a test disc and an SPL meter.

I'm having problems with my 300, the audio keeps cutting out on the secondary HDMI. The orange light on the front will flicker and the audio cut out before coming on again, then repeating this.

I have an Onkyo 806.

Any ideas?

Did you configure it for audio only (video turned off). See what happens if you turn off deep color. It looks like some kind of hdmi compatibility issue.

Of course I will try it. My comments aren't any kind of referendum on your experience. My point is about the typically vague manual that should be more explicit about this issue.

I've had the 350 for about a year now. Finally got a 3D display to enjoy it. It worked well with my HDMI 1.3 receiver which is why I bought it in the first place, but I really wanted a 1.4 with pass-through, so I picked one up a few weeks ago.

I have a couple of issues that make me want to trash this player. First of all, it has no support for the .mpo files my Fuji 3D camera creates....really lame. Thank goodness my LG LW5600 can read and display them via a USB port.

Secondly, I loaded up the new BD release of Office Space last night, and it took at least 2 minutes and numerous HDMI handshakes to get to the point where the movie was playing. That was almost inexcusable, though I'm familiar with the fact that java can load slowly.

Lastly, correct me if I'm wrong, but early adopters like myself are not eligible to obtain the 3D version of Avatar?

Not sure how you did that...Nevertheless, I decided to order the 210 today as BB was out of stock in most of the stores in my area, due to them being on sale. I decided to go with them because I already had $130 in reward zone credits, making it extremely cheap.

I'm afraid the 350 has outlived its usefulness. I get better DVD upscaling in my AVR, so I use my Pio 23FD for playing DVDs with its direct source output, and will have a better UI in the 210 than the 350 has, as well as support for more file types. I use HDMI, so I won't be missing the multi-channel analog outputs.

Yes, After installing f/w update, was able to play the animated Disney "Alice in Wonderland", which would not play before.

Looks like they added Cinema Now, nice to have choices Amazon Video, Netflix, Vudu, Cinema Now. If they would lower the prices I might rent something, in the mean time Red Box OWNS BD rental...

I hope Panasonic continues to add new things. It doesn't even appear that Cinema Now gives you a free rental to try their service. Both Amazon and VUDU did that. I like the Netflix buffet plan the best. However, it is nice to have options.

For what it's worth, my 350 gave up the ghost yesterday just outside the one year warranty. The drive system completely stopped working. I'm a bit disappointed with Panasonic. This player should have lasted a lot longer.

Ordered the 2011 model from Amazon (dmp-310). At least it was cheaper and still has the 2 HDMI outputs.

Cheap bastids, crappy salesmen. Why would anyone just order something blind from them for $$ without having tried it? What do they offer that VUDU doesn't?

They are the worst of the 3. I used to have a subscription to CinemaNow and didn't see anything worth keeping it.

So I know this is my first post here and before I get the 'search the forum' first, I've been reading for days on multiple topics from receivers to BluRay to TVs (very difficult with a 2 year old and 3 month old!). Great info!

So here's my problem.

I've recently had to replace an old samsung DLP TV, went with an LG 55LW5600 (Fry's spectacular at $1200). That spurred me replacing my 6 year old Sony receiver with a new Onkyo RC360 (Couldn't pass up the other Fry's spectacular at $250...).

Now I'm wondering with all this new A/V why not take a look at Blu Ray players as well at least on the affordable side.

I'm no audiophile or videophile but I like good picture and sound

So here's the question. I found an older Panasonic BDT 350 player at Best Buy close out for $135. After doing some digging and reading reviews here and elsewhere I think my other choice is a BDT 210 with the new wireless features for about $160.

Does the newer BDT 210 use the same internals as the older BDT 350? Or is the the 350 still the superior 3D/2D player? Or should I go with the newer 210 for the updated wireless (The 350 I got is open box and has no dongle) and UI improvements?

I'll mostly be watching 2D Blu Ray with some 3D kids movies, along with quite alot of old DVDs as well so up scaling is important too.

I have Internet services on my TV and receiver so playback is my #1 priority. And wireless isn't a deal breaker, I just want to know which is the superior unit from a hardware perspective.

I would go with the 210 or 310. As much as I liked my 350, it died on me in just over a year. The PQ on the 210 is just as good if not better than the 350.

You can get a great price for the 310 on Amazon. I would look there first.

If you do stick with the 350, GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!

I'm leaning towards returning this one and getting the 210, I've got no need for the extra hdmi out so I wouldn't need the 310. And it looks like the 210/310 has the same chips as the older 350, at least so far as I can tell. But the newer models have been upgraded to perform better in some ways. Can anyone confirm this thought? I'm the new guy still and don't want anyone to make their decisions based off my findings!

I have that LG display, and both the 350 that I'm probably going to give my stepdaughter and a 210.

1. Perhaps due to the positioning on my wireless router with the display and the BD player, I always seem to get a stronger signal into the BD, regardless whether it was the 350 with a dongle or the 210.

2. The BD players get Pandora, the LG does not. The LG does have however a superior UI for amazon.com. It can pause, FF, RW the stream, whereas the Panasonic offers no control over the stream.

3. Get the 210 over the 350 if you won't be able to plug it into your network, otherwise you will have to resort to burning CDs to update the firmware on the 350 since you don't have the wireless dongle.

4. I haven't registered my LG with NetFlix yet, so I don't know what the UI looks like. The difference in the UI between the 350 and 210 is night and day. The 210 offers a full searching interface whereas the 350 only offers you what's on your instant queue.

5. The 210 is slightly faster at load times for Blu ray disks. The picture is about the same.

6. The 350 allows you to enter a time to seek to, the 210 does not.

7. You can easily send away for the Avatar 3D with a 210 box. Not sure how you can with an open box 350. Geaux Tigers had the answer, so maybe PM him.
