I have not yet upgraded it to 1022. The MJC was effectively turned off via SM conversion and the soap look is gone (whew). Before I upgrade, I'm curious how the 1022 upgrade affects/exposes MJC on the 7000 after the upgrade.

thx

Interesting. 1020 is what my set came with and I never had the soap opera effect. At least I sure never noticed it.

Perhaps you just like soap operas.

It's only slightly noticeable to imperceptible on "video" based content such as reality shows, american idol,CNN, etc and also barely noticeable on animated content such as pixar, southpark, familyguy. On some video content like "The Office" it's pretty noticeable.

But it is extremely noticeable on film based "movie" content especially blu-ray. Looks like you're watching a live show rather than a movie. Someone said, looks like you are watching the movie being made rather than watching the finished product. Very weird and annoying look on Film content.

I am sorry, if this was mentioned before and if it sound stupid:

"Contrast Ratio"

Pn50c7000 = 5000000:1
Pn50c8000 = 7000000:1

I know they use the same panel and that the updates are the same file, just wonder if samsung will ever change that and make updates separately for the c8000 that can harm the c7000 in any way?.

I wouldn't put any thought into those numbers.

Oh I see , did you ever converted yours to C8000?

I was wondering if someone can post what exact keys to press in the remote (or is it on the tv itself? ) to navigate the service menu or post some pictures. The first post say go and change it to C8000 but doesn't say how or what keys to press. Me <--- Noob

Update: I got it done.

i switched my 7000 to 8000 first thing, then updated firmware. no problems at all.
the cal-day and cal-night is a big bonus for adjustments, and look great.
the cinema smooth option is there and seems to function, i haven't really had the time to test it, other than seeing it turn on and off with my ps3.
it is also pretty nice having the different options for MJC, standard, smooth, and off.

yes it does look bad on some shows but on other shows it seems to help my eye strain.

I'll be keeping the 8000 setting.

Hey all

I just turned my c7000 into a c8000 via the SM. The new options are available so thats great.

However, something seems terribly wrong with our 3d picture. Both me and my wife could see double images even with the glasses on and active. It really was pretty terrible, and horribly headache inducing.

We are wondering if we got a dud set, or if there is a firmware fix.

I'm afraid to update the firmware because I just changed the model number.

Questions I have, please help:

1.) How do I figure out which firmware I'm currently running?
2.) Which firmware was supposed to improve the 3D picture?
3.) Is updating the FW through USB just as safe and solid as doing it through Ethernet? (we dont have a cable long enough and don't wanna move the TV again...)

We are excited to be able to turn the MJC off now, but really want to see the 3D properly.

in the menu scroll down to the bottom one, the question mark.
go to contact samsung, a screen will come up telling you the version.

i think i remember 3d discussions in the owners thread you may want to search there for problems or settings.

Mine also came with 1020, try the dancing scene (~6min 30secs) into the 2010 version of Alice in Wonderland. Very noticeable!!! I have a 58C7000 changed it to a C8000 and turned off MJC and it totally has gone away. I was VERY close in returning the TV if I couldn't have resolved this issue.

FYI,

I tried the SM conversion and it made things worse alls I got was a shimmering effect on all the back ground. Now that i have seen this effect I can't not see it anymore, switch back to the 7000 setting but the soap opera effect is bad. I am calling samsung and probably going to return this set. as much as I like it the soap opera effect is bad and watching a movie with blur around everyones head is terrible.

Wish I would have known this first, it looked good in the store and didn't have these effects, I wonder if there is something wrong. As much as i like the 3d the hd is not good with all the blur.

Did you manage to find the MJC settings? I "upgraded" my c6400 to c8000 and cant find the MJC -_-
Also, did you have to change the front color to Tc-Blk?

P.s: running 1026 firmware

Hey All, I have a question regarding changing my model number on my TV. I changed it to the 8000, and now I am currently going through the process of doing the 100 to 200 hours of the plasma break in disc. I am thinking of getting a ISF calibrator out to my house early next year to calibrate my TV to help keep the picture going strong. I am wondering since I changed the model number, will that affect my calibration, as in making it possible for the TV to break, or not to worry since the 7000 and 8000 are basically the same hardware?

Thanks!

Can someone please help me with the following problem? I converted my pnc7000 to 8000 and now when I turn on the TV I get a message that says, "Please go into service mode and setup below options; Type, front color option" This will turn off and I don't notice any other problems with my set up, but I would like to get rid of this message. Please advise. Thank you, Matt.

Micron06 - I've had this same question posted on the dedicated C6400/6500 for awhile with no response. I also did the SM upgrade to C8000 about a month ago. I got the 2 add'l fully adjustable CAL-Day & Cal-Night setting options and it enabled the Cinema Smooth for use with 1080p/24 Blu-ray input which IMO is a positive improvement to my Blu-ray viewing. Mission accomplised and happy with these. However I have been unable anywhere to even locate a reference to MJC. I'm baffled as to whether or not it is functioning at all on my panel. I've noticed none of the unpleasant motion artificats everyone talks about in my regular & sports viewing with a DISH satellite input. Either MJC is is always ON and funtioning perfectly (unlikely) or it is always OFF and not affecting my PQ.
Yes - you need to change the front color to Tc-Blk in order to get the Serv Menu from displaying all the time on your panel (it worked, don't know why). I'm still in the factory installed FW 1021 but hearing you're running with the latest FW 1026 - I think I'll take the plunge and load it. Right now I continue to be amazed at the PQ of this model and am hoping to gain a possible improvement to the Cinema Smooth operation after the upgrade.

if you go into the menu under picture scroll down to picture options, that is where MJC is, if it is not there i would have to guess the 6400 doesn't support this function.

I upgraded my 6500 to an 8000 as well and cannot find MJC either. Still wondering why. I am thinking that it could be the fact that I am updating with the firmware for the 6500. Will try it with the firmware for the 8000 next time. However, aren't they the same file?

I'd swear I see weird motion and artifact effects caused by FI or MJC on my 6500 and I would love to be able to disable this feature when appropriate.

I did also alter the model number from a c6500 to c8000 in the SM but the MJC option does not seem available. I suppose I could enable "Game Mode" which should disable any FI/MJC but then I cannot use the calibrated picture modes, right?

Really a bummer because I am otherwise loving this set, but this issue (motion issues) could be a deal breaker for me.

Note: I am running FW 1026 released on 7/30/10 which is applicable to models c6500, c7000, and c8000

I'm also looking for an answer on this too. If I can't turn the MJC off, then I don't want this TV. If I can, then I'll buy this one instead of the 7000.

Just had a go at changing my c7000 to an 8000 but that option is greyed out in the service menu - bummer. Also upgrading from 1015 to 1016 firmware, seems Australia is a long way behind the firmwares you guys are using!

Oh, Even though it's a 7000 I still have access to the MJC though to turn that off. At first when I was looking to change the model number to an 8000 I started changing the first lot of settings! Where it's a 58AmA1D or whatever it is. A bit of a freak out cause I forgot what it was originally! Not sure whether to use the Am or Ar one, but Am is working so presumably that was correct....

Hi!

I'am on the way to make a decison to buy PS-50C550G1W or PS-50C6500TW. And talks about MJC are confusing me.
How it looks like? Please give me details how MJC works technicality.
Is the MJC on by default on C550?

C550 doesn't have it, C6500 does have it, have a look at a panning scene in the shop when you go to buy. I would buy the 6500.

C550 dosen't have MJC entirely, C6500 dose have MJC and MJC is on by default, right?

Just got my 58" 6500.

Changed model to PC8000 in the SM. All is working well.

I checked my firmware and it is v1012.2. First should I update the firmware and if so should I use the 6500 or 8000 file?
