As a newsgroup user...I don't do torrents.....but is there a way to "donate" to get a copy of the latest disc?

In a word....No.

It was available via newsgroups but that was many many moons ago only way not to get it is via torrents OR have someone upload it to a newsgroup.

this is way way off for me but what if you don't have a blu ray burner? Is there any kind souls who are willing to ship discs?

If you don't have a BD burner you could try the Reference Demo Disc. It was created in segments that fit onto a DVD-DL.

Or you can try to play ANY of the demo discs via USB if you player supports it.
