You'll need to download a torrent program (I recommend utorrent since it has a very tiny footprint in regards to system resources). Then once the tracker gets published for the torrent you just download the .torrent file and join in the download.

The one thing that I would ask (not that I have anything to do with this project) of everyone downloading is that you at least seed (upload) what you took (download). This will make everyone's life easier in the end. Don't be a douche and download the file and then stop seeding it. I hope everyone gets at least a 1:1 ratio on the torrent.

+1 on that, since the upload part at the begining will be crutial to get this thing off the ground.

I'll upload at 100-150kb/s for as long as needed to get this thing started

I have FiOS and ample BW.... I download a lot of Brit TV via torrents and usually upload at 512K but can increase for this project.

For those of you that have used one, any suggestions of brand or minimal functionality we should be looking for?

At the current prices of BD burners it is almost an impulse buy. I have a stack of 4 Sony Bd burners in my work computer and have had zero issues with it. I have a HDDVD/BD by LG at the house and haven't had any issues other than the speed of it.

Without further ado, I'm glad to finally release this disc after 4 to 5 months of working on it.

I've been able this weekend to integrate a small little feature. When playing the disc on a PS3, the disc title "Home Theater Demo Blu-ray" is now shown instead of "BDMV" and a thumbnail graphic (of the menu) is shown, like most commercial blu-rays.

If anyone would like to edit this content before burning their disc, in the META folder under BDMV there is an xml file where you can easily edit the disc title. You can also add any thumbnail that you wish by replacing the "big" and "small" images with your own image of the same size.

I chose to upload a Winrar archive, with .rar files at 500MB each. Anyone that doesn't already have Winrar will need to install it, see link below. Once the archive is extracted to the harddrive you'll be ready to burn the disc. I recommend using the free "IMGburn" to burn the disc. See link below. Open "Imgburn" and simply drag the BDMV folder into the input box. (Choose write files to disc). The program will automatically generate a certificate folder. I did decide to just "rar" disc folders instead of an image file. During my several burns, the above method is what I used so I know it works well.

The disc, in download form comes in a 41+ Gigs. The disc is 90% full (Dual Layer Blu-ray) according to Sonic Scenarist. I left some spare capacity considering various media, burners and players. I believe once extracted it's closer to 43gigs. I'm not sure if the advertised "50gigs" of a DL Blu-ray is 50 real gigs (based on 1024 bytes in a kilo-byte) or a marketed 50Gigs (based on 1000 bytes in a kilo-byte)

Steve,

Can't tell you how excited I am to see this. Downloading + seeding what I have so far. My uploads seem to be peak around 200 kB/s (must say, as someone who designs and builds networking security appliances, measuring speed in bytes/sec instead of bits/sec is just weird...).

Shame my dang router keeps reseting the connection or it would be much faster. I'll keep the torrent running in the background at least until the main excitement over the thing is done. Presumably that's a few weeks...

BD burner + blanks are on order. Should be here by the time I finish downloading the torrent. Lots 'o fun!

Thanks again. Can't wait to fire this thing up in my HT

Getting some decent speeds already but it'll still be around 2-3 days at the speed I'm going.

200-700 up and 100-500 down.

Good to see everyone using utorrent (and 1 utorrent MAC). It really is the best there is right now as far as torrent client software goes.

OK who is going to recommend a good deal on a burner? I see that there are some around $110-$150 what is a good one?

When I look at the peers and it says 12(23) what does that mean?

Thanks for this awesome project Steve. I am with Leif on the download progress slow and steady and lots of fluctuation in speed (darn DSL) Am happy to see the number of peers has grown 10 fold in the first hour---likely as people read Steve's post about release BIIIG SMILE

The fastest burner seems to be the Pioneer BDR-205. Not the cheapest, but in the arena of HT, it's mouse nuts.

First number is how many peers you're connected to at that given time. The second number is the total number of peers connected to the torrent.

BUT...if you look at the detail of the torrent tracker, you will see that only one person has 100% of the torrent. I've got the third highest percentage complete (6.5%). Given the current speed, it will take six and a half more days for this to be complete. Torrents usually slow down during the day (as many provider's networks become more saturated and they begin to throttle P2P protocols). It is especially bad in the evenings until around 10:00pm. It will speed up as more people obtain a higher percentage, but suffice it to say, it should still take 4-6 more days.

I picked up the LG WH10LS30K 10X Blu-ray Burner - LightScribe Support - Bulk - OEM for about $100 from NEWEGG. It's worked out pretty well thus far. I have yest to burn a DL BR, but I'm going to do that this week some time.

This time next week, if the seeders with speeds they've mentioned stay on the torrent people will be able to pull the whole disc in less than a day.

Yea, that's not a problem. They have only downloaded 7.5MB, so I'd be surprised if they stick around. BUT...it may be someone that frequents this forum. We do have a wide reach!

I'm downloading as we speak. During the day, I'm uploading at a steady 50kb/s as I need some bandwith to work! But at night, I'll seed at 100-125kb/s.

Friday, I called my internet provider and swap my connection for the EXTREME package! Modem/router should arrive today or tomorow. After that, I'll be able to upload/download pretty damn fast...!

Lockeed, just out of curiosity, who's your provider? I was talking to my cable installer (Time Warner) recently and he mentioned they were going to start offering the Extreme package where I'm at by the end of this year since they're rolling out DOCSIS 3.0 soon. Quoted speeds were pretty insane.

Yippee hit the 7% completed mark. My DL rate is similar to CJ's but ETA for me says 5 WEEKS (sorry new to torrent but seems wierd that his is 4 days 9 hrs and mine at same point is that far out) Uploading consistently as well.
Second question for those who've been there done that. Do you need to burn this to a disc or could you burn an image with say IMGBurn to a hard drive on a server just like a disc. Sorry for the newbie question.
