Any idea what's up with these shots? It doesn't look like just a focus issue. Hopefully it's not too distracting when watching.

As I said a few pages back it's Temporal DNR

Whoever those are between Chewie and Han they aren't Luke and Leia! Seriously what is up with Leia? Did the person who drew this even see the original films?

Besides Jabba being on the left, it looks like it's going from old to new from right to left.

ROTJ Vader screams NOOOO when he tosses The Emporer WTF! I loved the silent I can't have this ish kill my son!?

It's just so unbelievable that Lucas would choose to take the most cringe-worthy line from the prequels (ok, maybe not the most since there are so many like the "I don't like sand..." stuff) and then apply it to ROTJ. I actually LOL'd in the theater when I heard whiney-boy/Vader yell NOOOOO! at the end of ROTS. Seriously, the KO screams in the original Streetfighter II arcade game are better delivered.

I hear he exchanged the "I love you" "I know" lines with

"You are so... beautiful."
"It's only because I'm so in love."
"No, it's because I'm so in love with you."

I know Ben Burtt is the source for saying the "Star Destroyer" line is a Star Wars outtake, but that doesn't make any sense. They're never called "Star Destroyers" in that movie. They always say, "Imperial cruiser". The term has never appeared in any version of the Star Wars script, either.

LOL. Another alternative could've been:

Leia: "I love you."
Han: "Yippee!!"

So, when Lucasfilm goes to create the 3D versions of the original trilogy, are they just going to use the same source/scan as the BD, or do they have to create new 4K transfers?

For the PT there can be no 4K transfer (at least for the last 2) as they were shot in 1080p digital. IMO what we are getting now will be what misused for the 3D release. While 4K would be nice it just wont look the same across the saga which is what I think they are trying to do now.

Out of the PT only TPM needs any work and that can (and should) be scanned at 4k

I was waffling on this set, and the changes confirmed it for me. I won't buy this. Thankfully the lack of color fixing in the OT and the original 2k scan make this choice easier. I might still pick up the PT even though I don't really like them, but I cannot imagine them looking any better with a different transfer...maybe Ep I, but I will hardly watch that movie anyway .

I'm pretty sure they are... I'm doing this from memory, but when they leave Tatooine in a hurry, Luke asks Han what's going on, and Han responds "Star Destroyers, two of 'em, headed right for us" or something to that effect.

In fact, I think "Imperial Cruiser" is the lesser-spoken term, since it's only used when talking about Han's lost spice shipment.

"Looks like an Imperial cruiser, our passengers must be hotter than I thought. Try to hold 'em off. Angle the deflector shield while I make the calculations for the jump to light speed."

The line you are thinking of is from The Empire Strike Back.

I agree that it would be nice to have I and IV-VI redone at 4K I just don't see it happening anytime soon if ever. The current release may be the best we ever see the movies so that they all stay on "equal ground" resolution wise.

Hmm. Is princess Leias "mammal glands" erased?

That last screenshot with the lush green forest is impressive.

They should have done it for the 3D, 1080p is not a lot to play with.

Yeah, it's bad enough that the Lowry masters have been recycled for Blu, but using them as the basis of the 3D versions is utter madness. Still, presuming that such work hasn't been done yet (if the releases go to plan then Star Wars will arrive in 2015) then there's still time to scan the remaining elements at the highest quality possible. Or not.

Maybe I was expecting too much, but I'm not exactly blown away by any of those shots...

You'd think these would be the absolute pinnacle of BD video quality given their respective ages with how much Lucas covets them with access to cutting-edge tech to maintain/restore/remaster/alter them.

Unfortunately, whatever he has access to, these transfers were not cutting-edge even when they were made. Big-budget 2004 films like I Robot and Spiderman 2 were scanning completely in 4K but these were done in HD.

But my main qualm isn't the resolution really, but the colors, which look kind of bland with unnatural skintones.

I was expecting just this.

Is that for real? Is he seriously adding those? Oh my God, I think I might boycott these after all if that's true.

*face_palm*

Looks to me like they're swapped in from another transfer. Especially visible in that final shot, but they all have the same vertical noise as Lionsgate's First Blood.
