From Scott Greczkowski at SatelliteGuys:

Scott: You will be hearing about DISH and 3D within the next month...

Mainstream: We should know on May 12 at the dish retailer show. Unless Scott leaks something SOONeerr.

Scott: Correct Mainstream. So far looks like Demo Material such as ads for Toy Story 3, Tron, and Alice in Wonderland, but more is expected... Dish Network will be using the Side By Side Method as shown below.

Isn't that after the court ordered injunction takes place and Dish has to disable ALL of their DVRs?

Dish Has One Month to Settle TiVo Case

That's 8 days from today.

That's just Tivo lawyer spin.

It is not all Dish DVRs; just those specifically named in the lawsuit. None of the current generation VIP DVRs are affected and Dish already swapped out all the named DVRs (like 721 and 921) over the past year.

Dish's hopes now rest on its motion for an en banc rehearing of the appeals court decision, Moffett wrote -- a motion he calculated has less than a 3% chance of being granted based on historical averages. Moffett estimates Dish would have to disable approximately 8 million DVRs if it runs out of legal options or fails to settle with TiVo.

Yep - just more speculation.

We will know the outcome - or something at least in 8 days. Not too long to wait.

Jury Rules for TiVo vs. Dish

April 14, 2010

The only option left to Echostar is an appeal to the US Supreme Court, and the company has already indicated that it plans to do exactly that. Having the verdict and subsequent rulings reversed appears extremely unlikely at this point; TiVo can finally look forward to getting a check for the $89.6 million damage award. Don't be surprised to see DISH Network's workaround come under close scrutiny in the wake of this long and acrimonious patent battle.

Yup. It's all spin and speculation.

But the spiniest of all is the speculation that Dish will have to shut down it's DVRs.

They won't let that happen.

Finding the most egregious offender in the "Our service is better than their service" is an ugly, dirty game. I like Dish and wouldn't give the equipment or service for anything I've seen from their competitors in my area (DirecTV, ATT, Charter). I'm just happy they've announced they'll do 3D.

Not necessarily.

At this point, most legal opinions are pretty consistent.

I agree Dish won't let that happen. But, they'll either have to pay off TiVo or buy them. Either way, it will be a very expensive solution to a problem they could have settled years ago for a fraction of the price now.

Mr. Ergen is a gambler from way back, and he usually is pretty shrewd with his bets, but this one was a real bad idea.

And I agree that Dish is very likely to lose the case.

Please notice my comment to Lee was specifically in regards to news reports that Dish would be forced to shut down their DVRs as a result. Presenting that as fact is poor reporting by the media.

Like Joesph, I'm just glad Dish to learn does not have their head in the sand regarding 3D. Until today, that wasn't clear.

Certainly Dish can't let DirecTV get the upper hand in promising their customers something they don't intend on delivering.

That's pretty cool that they will announce their 3D plans by next week! I guess its reasonable to assume they may carry ESPN3D right in the launch time but we will wait and see to be certain. I think since Dish is the direct Competitor to DirectTV they sure shouldn't not leave them to be only provider to carry 3D channels alone.

haha, i know! im also waiting for Dish to announce 3D, im hoping it will be ESPN 3D. I think we will know in May 12.

im just wondering... How do these people from SatelliteGuys know about May 12 Dish Network announcement? do i need to keep my eye on Dish network website, google for announcement perhaps?
If Dish offers the 3D Checkerboard Format and DirecTv or the cable providers do not then I envision a lot of 3D ready DLP owners jumping to Dish.

Remember what happens in the CE stays in the CE.
