Got a wierd ? here I been going over foums about Pro Logic II and Neo 6 which is better for music... but then most audiophiles say stream direct is your best bet for listening to music...

Here is my gig.. I have a laptop which uses HDMI so I get video and ALL audio VIA HDMI on laptop (Ya its great that sound card is mixed in with the HDMI on the Laptop) but far as I can tell the HDMI is only 2 channel...

Anyways I use Rhapsody on my laptop to listen to music... so I went over what sounded better Neo 6 or Pro Logic 2... then went to Direct Stream...

In the end I liked the Direct Stream... for one reason.. it uses the Sub... but I THOUGHT Direct Stream is supposed to be 2.0 not 2.1... does this reciver automaticaly let the Sub work with Direct Stream??? well thats really my ? there if anyone could enlighten me...

If i run an HDMI cable from my (soon to get Panny BDP85) to the 1020 and then component out to my 50" Sammy DLP's component ins, will this get me a better video picture than going component out from BD player straight to the Sammy's component in?
thx

The code is only good for amazon orders but it seems they got them back in stock so The code worked for you After amazon replenished their stock.
Code is not valid on 3rd party sellers.

You'll get a better picture going HDMI or Component out from BD player straight to the Sammy's HDMI in or Component in .

Because the receiver will not down convert HDMI to Component .

But really try it both ways (run it direct to tv or run it through receiver) when you get your receiver, you will be the judge.

Edit: well just looked at the 1020 specs and this receiver doesn't have multi channel analog connection.
So run it through the receiver via HDMI.

point taken?... thanks.

[My Sammy 50" DLP just wont break -- great picture after 5 yrs now.]

Hello, I have just got my 1020. it is hooked up to my Polk TSI500s. But I am not getting good results in terms of bass output. I played around with the cross over setting, automatic set up etc, no joy. I am considering bi-amping, will it help? Any other recommendations?

Squeeze the buttons before connecting the cable to the iPhone.

got my 1020 and played with it all day.. I am pretty impressed with it... I like the sound a lot and the room calibration software worked sooo well. my setup sounds freakin great now. I like the network connectivity.. been using the iphone app a bit and playing music right from a USB flash drive in the front of the unit.. I wish the iphone app let you browse the music installed in the USB slot also. that would be hot!

This looks really bad.

I just had that happen with a ButtKicker amp. The factory thinks it's probably a blown capacitor.

My 1020 is working perfectly.

Have you set the front channels to large? (I'm assuming you don't have a subwoofer)

What are you using to measure/reference this observation?
Music, movie?

I like the iphone app right off the bat so I can tell what speakers are in use in a certain surround mode.. the manual has some of that but it's nice to see it to ensure the rears are being used in some of the advanced modes..

Another thing, glad I took the time to use banana plugs on my cables 6 mos ago because it made the install a snap. I did find out that my Toshiba A30 doesn't pass bitstream over HMDI though.. which sux, so have to run PCM but I guess it's fairly good.. the internal decoder can do TrueHD 5.1 I think.. guess that's another reason to migrate off HD DVD fully.. I have a lot of disks though.. it'll be spendy to get them all over again in Blu-Ray..

Question:

When using a USB Hard drive for playback of music, why does the GUI not display the file folders in Alphabetical order, How is it ordering them? Is there a way to change the order. I have lots of folders and find it very time consuming. Thanks for any advice.
weird.. I know on my Ford Sync system it lists the mp3's in order of their ID3 tag info.. which is slightly annoying.. I had to spend hours editing audio book files so they would play in the correct order.. but you say these are folders? have you tried putting an 001 002 003 etc in front of them and seeing if that will force them into the right order?

anyone know how this stacks up against the Denon AVR 1811/791?
thx

I've been reluctant to mention the speakers I've been using. (with good reason)

Several years ago I bought a pair of Matrix-MX1300 speakers for $75. Yes I know they are "white van" speakers. I'm by no means an audiophile but they sound great- especially with my new Pioneer 1020k.

Regardless, I'm concerned about the impedance curve which could possibly drop too low and damage my new receiver. Is there a way to test this? Or should I just replace the speakers? Or perhaps I could keep the housing and replace the drivers / crossovers?

I'm just concerned that it's going to take a lot of money to reproduce the quality of sound that I have now.

guys does the 1020 support standby pass-through ? or it's just the 1120 that does ?

The bad: One-year warranty (most competitors offer two or more); no audio return channel support; doesn't support standby pass-through; no minijack input.

Yes fronts are set to LARGE. And I do not have a sub, so it is set to "NO"
