Calibrator Shawn Byrne is the best!

Today Shawn Byrne came to my home and calibrated my Pioneer Kuro PDP-5020. To say that I am 100% satisfied with the total experience of hiring him and the results i got would be an understatement! He got my gray scale absolutely perfect across the board! The improvement in my picture quality is tremendous; night and day difference. The real kicker is how cool he is. Shawn is totally down to earth and he taught me so much that just talking with him was priceless. If you live in the Kansas City area, I live in Hays Kansas, you would be a fool to hire anybody else. Highly reccomended!!

Thanks for posting your impressions about your calibrated display. I've included it in the flat panel (Post#2) list that's linked at the bottom of my post.

Check out the thread that's devoted to your model display.

I agree. Shawn came down to my house in Tulsa to calibrate my Panasonic PT-AE3000 that I had at the time and also calibrate my Onkyo 886 processor. He was very thorough and didn't mind walking me through CalMan, so I could learn how to calibrate my equipment myself. It was money well spent. I would highly recommend him to anyone within 4 hours or so of KC.

Nice man! Yeah it was great to watch him do his work. He taught me so much and even emailed me before and after charts. That man's an A/V Yoda!

I have to agree! Anyone looking to purchase CalMan and then get a one on one tutorial or walk through of it, should DEFINITELY give Shawn a call. I spent 6 hours with him at his house over the weekend. He purposely screwed the calibration on his Pioneer Elite Plasma and then used that as my learning tool. He made me calibrate it back to his liking and walked me through every step of the way!!

Great guy and I learned a lot!!!!!! Anyone looking for a tutor should give him a call!!!!

Thanks Shawn!!!

How do you get ahold of Shawn? Does he frequent these forums? I would like to get a calibration on my GT30 after a few more break in hours. Robert

i read an article by an electrical engineer who calibrates industry grade displays for a living. His main argument is that consumer displays should be properly calibrated at the default settings from the factory, unless they didn't do their job right people who notice an "improvement" after calibration are experiencing a placebo effect

Well yes and no.

Yes they are calibrated but not to standards, they are calibrated to marketing specs to make them look different. Yes they do calibrate the THX/ISF/Movie modes to standards but the time allotted is very little so the variances are wide. Hence the need for field calibration. Also you get drift over time so even the high-end commercial factory calibrated displays need field calibration over time.
