Official Sharp Aquos/Quattron LC-XXLE810UN/LC-XXLE820UN Owners Thread - Page 94

Thank you very much chromawash!

Several of your settings greatly improved my picture. I can't wait to try setting #9!
My experience is that you only need to change the Sharpness setting itself. It's only when changing many or all settings of any AV MODE that I advise doing a reset, partly to make it easier to enter the values, partly to help avoid firmware bugs.

Not sure If I should start a new thread, or join this.

2 issues. I have a sharp aquos LC-52LE820UN that We've had for about 2 years. Its had an issue for about a year where the menu turns on automatically. As in, i'll be watching TV and it just pops on. Also, as of late, it turns off, and then within a few seconds turns itself right back on. Any Ideas?

[revised Lists #9 and #A1, other Lists moved to #2796]

Very rarely, my Sharp will suddenly show a screen of black and white static, but within a few seconds the picture comes back. I've wondered if the TV might be picking up stray electromagnetic signals, and somehow trying to interpret them as input commands.

I'm using the original version of List #9 so does that mean I don't have to change my settings to get this version of List #9?
I guess I could go thru the settings to check them myself.
I was hesitant to change my settings from the original List #9 because they look so good when playing Blu Ray and DVD disc.

I have a similar question:
I have DirecTv and PS3. I think I used to use list 9.
Are you saying I would be better off with list 4? "Compared with any other List, Lists #3 and #4 usually have the best definition of highly saturated colors,", but then you say that 3&4 are the worst overall?

Thanks for your help btw.
The earlier versions just aren't as good, so you should update to the latest settings.

List #9 has much better color accuracy, and #4 doesn't have such great definition anyway, so #9 would be better. I don't usually notice the loss of definition with Lists #8 and #9.

These are final improvements to List #10. Lists #9 and #10 significantly improve skin tones oversaturated with yellow. They both reduce color inaccuracies of List #7 across the spectrum by about 70%, but #9 definitely has better skin tones. The remaining 30% consist mostly of certain shades of green, purple, orange, skin tones, darker shades, loss of definition in highly saturated colors, and a tiny reddish cast in all colors (also present with Lists #4-8). The only real tradeoffs are a very slight increase in oversaturation of some greens, and very slight downgrade of black level. Compared with any other List, Lists #3 and #4 have the best definition of highly saturated colors. Best to worst overall color accuracy of Lists #1-10:

OTHER sources: #10, #9, #7, #6, #4
LIKE sources: #8, #5, #2, #4, #1, #3

I've now tried virtually every possible combination when INPUT is set to TV. Lists #9 and #10 are the best. GAME, USER, and maybe PC are the only modes with good enough basic color accuracy to work with. I still think new firmware could fix the color problems.

All lists are for the Sharp LC-40LE810UN Aquos (Quattron) sold in the U.S. in late 2010, with no firmware upgrade. All lists may only work for the U.S. model. LIKE means the list works only with my cable TV or similar video sources. My Sharp TV can identify my cable TV source through the HDMI port, and displays its colors differently than other sources. OTHER means the list works with all other video sources (DVD/antenna/cable/satellite/PC/games/etc.), and you can use any input (HDMI/antenna/component/composite/etc.).

Picture quality is mostly very good, sometimes excellent, but occasionally fair, especially for scenes that have a lot of specific inaccurate shades of color, or dark, highly saturated, pallid, or washed-out colors. If Lists #1-9 don't look similar or the colors are wrong, then you might have a different cable service, a different Quattron model, or different firmware installed.
USER mode settings must be customized for each INPUT, unlike the other AV MODEs, which share settings with all INPUTs.

This Quattron model has a brightness glitch that makes the picture in all AV MODEs blindingly bright. To prevent this, Backlight must be set to -12 in both MOVIE and DYNAMIC modes. If not already set to -12, then you must set them both to -12, turn off the TV, wait several seconds, then turn on the TV. If for some reason you can't switch Brightness to -12, but you can switch AV MODEs, then just switching AV MODEs a few times will restore normal brightness, but will not prevent the problem from recurring.

Other glitches may cause "clouding," and occasional, sudden oversaturation of colors after switching INPUTs or AV MODEs. These glitches seem to be correctable by switching INPUTs or AV MODEs a few times, and may be prevented just by entering in Lists #1-9, especially #4.

For sound, List #A1 is good for everything: music, movies, talk. List #A2 isn't very useful, but is better than #A1 for an unpredictable minority of songs and music, if the volume is turned very slightly higher. It's worse for everything else, and I can't explain this. Audio Settings must be customized for each INPUT.

So what's the difference in 9 and 10? They are both for other (DTV, PS3, etc). Is one better?
I have a 60inch sharp and anything I plug into hdmi (cable box/ps3) will cause the TV to turn off randomly! Sometimes it will turn off then turn on itself in a matter of seconds. Other times I will shut off and I have to unplug the TV and plug back in for it to power back up. At 1 time it done this and a message came up saying lost HDCP connection...?" Does anyone have this problem and is it fixable" I called sharp and they said running it threw some special menu should fix it but I would need the fact remote which I don't have

Dear cromawash thanks for your effort.
I see that a new firmware are out for the le810, have you tried it yet?
I'm using the lc-40le810e as pc monitor, can you suggest me again what of the above setting i need to use? There are too many and i cant decide. I play pc game like skyrim, dead space, horror games and so on, so i need detail in the black areas. Thanks

You don't.

According to my manual it shows "Enjoying Photo and Music Playback" for the USB memory device. It doesn't even mention video.

Opinion needed please!

My LC-60LE820UN suffered the same problem as many others have complained about = would not turn on and blinking error code.

Extended warranty has now approved a replacement with a model LC-60LE757U - any ideas if this is a good move?

The replacement (LC-60LE757U) is such a new model that I can't find much info on it....thanks for any info.

That's sweet that that the replacement is 3D and a smart tv model.

Thanks! I accepted the warranty offer and they delivered it today. Hope I like it as much as the 820UN. Wife says it' doesn't have the same striking look as the 820 (and no swivel base, etc.) but as long as it doesn't stop working I'll be a happy camper (sure sucks to be without a decent set for almost a month while waiting on warranty answer).
