Sorry, I originally posted this in the HDTV technical forum, and realized it was probably in the wrong place:
OK, I have done a search of relevant terms, but I got so many hits that it was overwhelming, so please pardon a potentially noob question:
I have 2 HR20-100 STBs hooked to a SWM dish on my roof and I believe I may have a dish aiming issue resulting in poor signal strength on several channels. Specifically, ESPN, Cinemax and local channels (e.g. Fox in Atlanta on channel 5) lose their signal when the weather turns the slightest bit bad. By that I mean if it is barely sprinkling outside I can completely lose signal for quite a while. It seems to have gotten worse in the last few months, and there are no trees blocking the line of sight of the dish. I can only assume the dish has moved slightly, but want to verify.
I am not very savvy about these boxes, so can someone point me to a tutorial on checking signal strength, what strengths I should be expecting, and what channels are on which satellites? I'd like to do some homework before I spent half a day of my time waiting for a D* tech to come out to the house.
Thnaks in advance for your help.
