Too bad, I was hoping.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, it is just a UI update. If you are having audio drops, then it is a hardware issue either with your DVR, your cable, or your TV/receiver.

OR none of the above and its source is in the DirecTV uplink center.

It must be my DTV DVR since it doesn't do it when anything else it attached to the tv. My BR Player and PopcorHour play fine. I tried replacing the HDMI cable but I still get it.

It's not bad enough for me to have the DVR exchanged, I have a lot of recording on it I want to watch. If it gets worse then I'll do something.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I'm not quite following your logic here.
Are you saying it does it, but doesn't do it if you connect other devices to your TV?
Or are you simply saying you don't have this from your BR Player or PopcornHour?

This first would be interesting to see, while the second just shows it's on the DirecTV system.
I'm pretty sure he means the only device he is having issues with is the DirecTV DVR. The sound and video on it cut out/flicker. None of his other devices have that issue on the same TV.

The audio issues are most likely in the signal from the uplink center like you mentioned. They are usually worse on Onkyo receivers, which I believe he has.

I'm wondering if the picture flickering isn't a sign of the hard drive in his DVR starting to go bad.

Since the transcoder [to MPEG-4] syncs off the audio, the video can also "flicker" [for the lack of a better term] if the glitch is real bad/long.

Some users may have other issues/problems that add to this, "but for those" with more than one DVR, they can check by making double recordings and comparing them. If it's happening at the same time on each recording, then it isn't their system. On the other hand, if one does and the other doesn't, well that's something else.
I've done a thread search for freezing, but none of the results have helped me. My HR24/500 freezes up for no reason whatsoever and displays a white screen. I can not turn it off with the remote or get the box to even recognize the remote. Pushing the red reset button doesn't help me because then it comes up with the built-in Hard Disc and not my external Hard Disk (2TB Seagate - which works great by the way). I have to unplug the receiver, wait 10 seconds and then plug it back in. Then all is fine for a few days until it happens again. This is now happening several times a week and I have messed up some single opportunity recordings having to do a hard boot. I have a Pioneer Elite SC-07 AVR and a Mitsubishi Diamond WD-57831 TV. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix other than calling DTV's Customer Disservice?
I have two HR24-500s, but they're running on their internal drives, and haven't seen, or read about any problems like this.

Any one else have this issue after the "upgrade"?
All my series that have been set to record are showing 0 (zero) for upcoming events scheduled. In order for them to appear/record, I have to delete the show/series and then start from scratch, Had to do this w/both my boxes...

I don't have too many SLs currently set to record, but this is due to the holidays and lack of first run programs. One of mine only showed 3 [total] in my to do list today.

How long after the upgrade?

Sometimes it takes up to 24 hours for the guide data to catch up.
24 hours actually-
I'm guessing it's just me, otherwise I'd think there'd be others complaining as well.
Not life-threatening certainly, but kind of a PITA
post #1244 of 2014
I just did a force update and finally got the new Software on one of my HR24.
It is fast scrolling through the pages and I like the new Guide. Really easy to read. Now I guess I'll do the other one if there aren't any issues with it.

Someone has a HR24-500, no remote, but it boots up and sits at error 771 no signal. I do not have direct tv. Can i use this thing for watching stuff over the network or over usb hdd? I have 0 interest in direct tv service, but i would like to use the box for other functions if possible. If its not possible, what do i do with it?

Nothing. It has to boot up, and download the information before you can even get into the system. Unless someone knows a way around this but I don't.

I had the same idea once, take my DVR up to the cottage to watch recorded movies but without the dish it won't even start up.

Also, is far as I know you can only watch programs that are recorded with directv. If it plays different media files I have never done it nor do I know how to do it. I use my PCH for that.

Great, so its essentially scrap metal. Ill take it apart and take the hard drive then junk the rest. Thanks!

Just call them and tell them it's frozen and get a replacement.

You may want to have them come out rather than ship you one because you never know what you will get. you have a lot better chance of getting the same model and a new one if you have a service tech come out.

One of my HR24 updated but I can't get the second one too. One is a /100 and one is a /500. I wonder if that makes a difference.

You did the first one while the firmware was in the stream, but it stopped by the time you trying the second "is my guess", since it stopped at 4 AM PST.

Oh, that makes sense since I got up at 2 this morning and didn't try the second one until about 6. Do you know what time they transmit EST.?

"The window" seems to be from 12:00-4:00 PST [normally], so it would be three hours after for you, "but" you'll need to finish downloading by 7:00 AM.

Help please on new DirecTV update on two HR24's

I ran into a major problem with the new DirecTV update for the guide

I use both HD outs via HDMI to feed distant HDTV's via Owlink fiber optic transceivers: also use composite out to feed a modulator and leave box set on 1080i: this has worked for over a year without a problem

since the last firmware update, the composite out now shows an overlay saying my cables are not HD and forces me to switch the box to 480p

I have tried rebooting everything with no luck

Any ideas how to correct this?

TIA
Mark,

The bad news is that it can't be corrected. With the new HD GUI, the boxes cannot send out HD and SD simultaneously.

The good news is that you have two options: you can change resolutions to SD whenever you need to watch your distant display, or the better option is to get one of these converters:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

(if it doesn't link, just search for item #7114)

This will allow you to connect the component out to the converter so you can connect it to your modulator and the boxes will believe everything is being distributed in HD.

This is probably the main reason that this particular rollout is so slow - there'll be lots of calls about this to CSR's.

Doesn't pressing exit remove the overlay?
I know holding the exit button toggles the resolution from HD to SD and then back.

Yep, you could do that everytime the message pops up and you could toggle (as long as the two displays aren't being used at the same time), or you could get the converter and forget about it.

the overlay reappears every time I change the channel

to clarify: I still get 1080i over the Owlink but the composite out is now useless: unless I change the resolution to 480

that looks like a good solution (using the Monoprice converter) : Thank you (I see they must be popular due to the latest D* update: backordered!)

Get the converter, I have one and it works great.
3 of my HR24's began changing channels on their own this morning at different times: 2 of these had the update

I am controlling by RS232 & IP but doubt my automation system is causing this: I do see the D* blue logo flashing on the front of the box though

rebooting the DVR seems to fix it

anyone else see this?
