Agreed, that's why I think there may be a problem with the cable(s) in the HT room. RG59 or RG6, does it matter? Any other ideas? Thanks.

RG6QS [quad shield] is preferred

disconnect one feed at a time to isolate which one is causing the issue

I'll give that a try this weekend and see what happens, thanks.

I've got an issue with the newly added HD guide on my HR24. Is this the best place for that question or is there another, more appropriate thread to use? Thanks in advance for any help.

Here is ok, but www.dbstalk.com would be better.

Sorry, but I don't have time to read through hundreds of posts. I just got my HR34 today and wondered if the new UI is available or if there is an ETA. I tried a force update but it's the old UI still.

Patience, Grasshopper. It will probably be there tomorrow. Mine was.

Rumor has it, HDGUI will be release, ready or not, at the end of February.

It's not cast in stone yet, but there is one coming.

You just never give up do you?
I've never seen someone post/bitch about something as much and as many times as you.
Yeah the HR34 has bugs.
When the HR20 first came out it too had them.
If you must be the first on your block to have one, you should know that this happens, and not only with DirecTV.

http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.ph...29#post2950329

according to DBS Talk, the channel changing on its own issue (IP and serial control related only) is being rolled out, although no confirmation received yet that it fixes the issue

interesting that a Pandora app for DVR's is also included in this staggered release

I received that update day before yesterday. I still have issues with my HR24-500 experiencing 30-60 second delays when trying to watch any recorded program. It can also take a bit for the DVR "list" screen to come up.

Haven't you learn yet, it is always marketing that pull the strings.

I had similar issues after installing a new HR34 and SWM 16 (not whole house networked): all my DVR's started to exhibit this delay from time to time

removed the HR34, rebooted all the HR24's, and all is good again

I wonder if this delay is related to the energy saving updates : I read the DVR goes into energy saving mode after a period of inactivity

perhaps this delay is associated with 'waking' the DVR?

It's not directly related, as I've seen it and have the "power saving" mode turned off, since it doesn't do anything more than what I do by turning the DVR "off".

A reboot should [has here] clear up the delay.

I'm switching to DTV. -- Should I get an HD34 or two (2) HD24s? (Pros & cons?)

I'm currently using 2 HR24s and with MRV service, I've got most of the HR34 features, and the stability they don't currently have.
Only the HR34 offer picture in picture, and since it's one unit, the to-do list is all one, where my twin HR24s don't have a unified to-do list, but have the unified playlist.
I'm missing one recordable tuner [I also have a H25 for my fifth tuner], and my two 500 GB drives end up with 100 GB less recording space than the 1 TB drive of the HR34.
If you were to ask this question in a few months, it might be more in favor of the HR34, as the software gets refined and more stable for all.

What are these supposed bugs? My new HR34 works perfectly so far. Maybe I have a new revision?

What's your goal? But in any case the stability issues suggest that it's premature to have an HR-34 as your sole recorder.

Threads like this one at dbstalk may be of help.

This is one persons one sentence summary: "The HR34 is an optimal device for a 4 TV household using 3 HD stand alone receivers and the one 5 tuner DVR."

Help me here... Why do I want an HR34 I have an HR25 and 3 H25's. I have had direct tv for 12 years, what should I expect the best price to replace my HR25 with a 34?

There isn't an HR25
Guessing you have an HR24 with 3 H25s.
With this setup, you can only record two shows at one time.
The HR34 will record 5 shows at one time.

I've seen you ask this in a couple of threads. What is going on is much like when the HR20 first came out.
Some had no problems, while others had some. The software needed to be refined so everyone had stable results. This took about 6 months after it was released.
"Hard failures" were easy to fix, but variations in how users use these showed some had problems. The same seems to be going on with the HR34 as it is a major change to the DVR platforms of earlier models.

Thanks. Is DTV giving any deals on these?

It's too early to know.
There was "a rumor" for a trade-in price, but it has yet to be released.

It's just the wife & I, and we're both engineers. (Lives of living with bugs.) We're leaning toward 2 HR24s just to get the storage partitioned. (Her space & my space.) I do not think I can do any partitioning/allocation of HR34's storage. This means her serial recording, when unmanaged, would start deleting my old recordings.

Thanks. Are there differences to important features like: skipping commercials, toggling between two programs (poor mans PIP/PAP), OTA(one coax vs 2), Netflix download to? (TV vs ?), wired eNet vs D's eOverCoax (I have cat6 to all rooms), audio (5.1), ...

I'll be pulling more rg6 soon. Is there any advantage pulling 2 runs of coax to each room anymore?

Re MRV,I understand that wired (non DECA) can work but it's not supported. Is there any advantage to this? (Maybe just good for trouble shooting.)

And, with 2 HR24s, could I record 2 on mine and watch a 3rd, live channel coming from her HR24? This could be a key difference between 2 HR24 vs an HR34.
