Which HR20 do you have? the -100 requires a different setup than the -700 [which is like all the other receivers].

Which is slow channel changing?

The 20 is a -100, it has the wrong install, missing splitter and filter. The 34 is the slow poke. Well it was, I just checked it after yet another RBR it's fast now. Yay

I have a couple of questions of the new HR34.

1. When you attach an external Hard Drive does it add to the internal drive or does it disconnect it like it currently does.

2. Can you access and play video files from a DLNA server or NAS?

I just recieved information on the new recievers and system WOW is coming out with and it does both of the above.

Thanks.

Must have gotten a new software version last night, because the black area at the progress bar is now much smaller than it was before. Much better

Sounds like you might have gotten 0x059E for your HR24-500

Yes, 0x59E. Box is a 24-100.

Right now it looks like that can be had by everyone with either the -100, or -200, but the -500 is only a select group.

This morning the monitoring site didn't show it for the -100, but did for the -500.

That sounds like a really good deal, are you a new customer and/or did you have to jump thru a bunch of hoops? Wonder if they would have added MRV and VOD for free too? I want...

Any idea what 0x059E improves/fixes?

They're never clear about fixes other than "under the hood" and "stability"

Thanks. I hope they fix the slow and laggy DECA responsiveness.

My HR24 has been having serious issues with SD channels lately. Basically, when watching any SD channel, I immediately get macro-blocking, followed by glitchy audio, and then the picture freezes. Sometimes it happens within 10 seconds, sometimes 5 minutes, but it's consistent on all SD channels, including the music channels. My signal strength seems to be fine, and I don't have this issue on any other receiver (HR21, H21, H23). I moved this receiver to another location, and the issued stayed with the receiver. I called D* and we went through the unnecessary 30 minutes of troubleshooting, before she said she would dispatch a tech free of charge, who is coming tomorrow morning. Just thought I'd see if anyone else has had this issue. I'm guessing I'll get a new box, but that means I lose my recorded shows, most importantly the Walking Dead episodes from the New Years marathon, and the two new episodes this month, that I haven't seen yet.

Had the HR34 installed yesterday and am getting the following 'Diagnostic code: 48-72-389'. Home Network Interference Problem. The receiver has a reduced network performance.

Anyone have any idea what I can try to fix this? It does seem to be able to access programs recorded on my two HR24s.

72 is a lack of dial tone, while 48 is DECA related, and at least one path in the cloud has poor performance.
Probable Cause:
  • The network may have excessive outside interference.
  • This test determines if the network bandwidth has excessive interference, as opposed to a poor signal. A service call should be made to address faulty cables or connectors and isolate outside interference.

There is a test run through the front panel, by pressing guide and right arrow, which should bring up a menu with coax on the left.
The first test shows the loss between nodes and the second the Mesh rates.

What good numbers look like are here: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.ph...99#post2934399

Troubleshooting would be better done "over there".

Thanks so much for the help. I re-did some connections and all is now well. Frankly having the ability to now record nine different programs at the same time is a little bit of overkill! I do like the HR34 though. Hope it gets the new software like the current version for the HR24 which I like alot.

Ok, I don't know why I haven't bothered with this before, but what purpose do the USB ports serve? I can find no access for them in any menus, nor does the unit discover new hardware when a USB drive is plugged in.

Thanks!

Oh, FWIW, I have consistent issues accessing programming from on the HR34 from the HR21/100 - usually have to re-try it several times. Hopefully the forthcoming update for the HR34 will resolve this.

As far as "good customers" getting the "deal" - well that didn't happen for me, until I made a call to TOOTP, and even then I had to ask for the supervisor.

Since the software needs to have drivers for any USB device, the only current device is the AM-21 OTA tuner.

I am a 'Gold level' customer and have been with D for over 10 years. I was given a $200 discount on the HR34 without even asking.

How do you find out your levels?

I didn't know they had some kind of rating system.

I've had the same experience w/ every upgrade. Any problems, just call the cancellation dept. Usually works...

It's what I've been referred to multiple times by the CSRs when I've called. I'm not sure what the actual criteria is, but I've been with D for over ten years now and my bill is over $150/mo.

I see this thread gets a lot of action so I will post this question here:

I'm looking to upgrade my current Directv setup to the whole home DVR setup. Here is what I currently have installed:

Living Room: HR20 with Swim Adapter, 2 Ethernet ports (1 currently used for ON Demand, other hooked to PS3)
Theater Room: HR20, 2 Ethernet ports (1 For On demand)
Master Bedroom: Standard def box, 2 Ethernet ports (none used)
Bedroom #1: Standard def box, 2 Ethernet ports (none used)

My questions are as follows:
1. What do I need equipment wise to get this upgraded? I know I will need HD boxes to replace the standard def boxes if I want to view in either of the bedrooms, but what other equipment will I need?
2. Can I install this stuff my self?
3. Will this cause me to be hooked back in for 2 yrs again? Currently operating without a commitment.
4. Anything else I missed or advice?

Thanks in advance.

I have the AM-21 Off-air tuner connected to my HR24 so that I can get my local alternate channels. My problem is that it does not include the second alternate of one of the channels. My OTA only TV picks up channels 9-1, 9-2, & 9-3. The DTV guide only gives me 9-1 & 9-2.

The OTA TV scans for channels and the AM-21 seems to contact DTV for channels. If this is correct does that mean that DTV does not tell it there is a 9-3 ?

How can I get it to show up in the DTV guide ?

Thanks

That is correct, and I don't have an answer how to get DirecTV to change what they're sending.

Others here have mentioned that D has to physically include a new OTA station in the guide that they send to the receivers and/or AM21. If they haven't added your channel 9-3, you are SOL until either D adds it, (if they ever do), or you get an HR34 which will scan and pick up the station but won't be able to actually show what's currently playing.

Have a problem, I just replaced HD24 receiver that when I get done with a view of recorded program and hit delete every once in a while it freezes during the "please wait" and then I must do a reset. This happened 3 times in 30 days and then DirecTV replaced it. I fired up the replacement 2/20/12 and yesterday had the same problem. I checked software and it is the 0x59e.

Now when it freezes it won't power off with remote either you reset or unplug it.

Any ideas.

I'm considering upgrading to the HR34, but directv is telling me I need to either have whole home DVR (which I don't want) or a cinema connection kit (at a charge of $50). I don't need either, as I have my current HD-DVR hooked up via Ethernet. Is it true that I have to have either whole home or cinema kit in order to have the HR34?

You must have a SWiM, but it will work without the CCK or DECA.

Another user (HDTVChallenged) is reporting the same issue in the DirecTV thread in the HDTV Programming forum here:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...14047&page=417

...must be a software problem.
My HR24-500 is still randomly freezing while trying to play or delete shows from the DVR. It doesn't lock up though, you just have to leave it alone for 30-60 sec till it decides to wake up.

This is not repeatable and seem totally random.
