Call of Duty: Black Ops - Page 384

While I have no doubt that there are a lot of factors that contribute to lag and will be bothersome until they are improved, I contend that BLOPs is the major contributor to "perceptible lag". (someone earlier used that term and I like it)

For the past few nights me and my COD buddy have been playing World at War exclusively. The amazing thing is that we love to cuss & complain, but not one time, over a few nights now, has either of us yelled "WTF that's BS!". Not once. We *do* notice who the host is because that person will have a slight edge over both of us, but it's slight and nowhere near impossible to get a kill on him.

BLOPs has become a total Crapbasket. We had to switch games because I was getting hoarse from all the yelling.

To me, this indicates that my hardware and network connection are ok. The only thing that's different is the code.

You could argue that we're being teamed up with different folks in WaW, and that's true, but there's less than 10,000 people playing it, odds are that we're getting teamed up with people that have *higher* round-trip network lag than when we do on BLOPs. It should be worse, not better.

Could lag effect the reaction of the guns during firing?

It's my understanding that animations like that are handled locally and wouldn't be affected by lag. Did you use the same controller in your test?

How's your network cable run? I have two systems set up. One of them had a lot of intermittent network trouble; choppy sometimes, network icon would briefly flash on screen often, etc.

Turned out that I'd run my CAT5 parallel to a bundle of romex (120V AC) for about 6 feet on the run to that system. I assumed that the fact that ethernet uses differential signaling would make it immune to interference. I was wrong. I re-routed the cable and all is well. It worked good enough that probably only a percentage of packets got hosed so it technically worked, but poorly.

I'm not suggesting that bad cable routing (or bad cable termination if you put the connectors on yourself) is the culprit, but it's worth a look if you don't know for sure.

She didn't understand why so I explained it as being like a two inch drain pipe and opening one valve of water lets it flow smoothly but when you open a second valve there is too much water trying to get through the pipe and it can't move the water fast enough and it starts to back up and that back up is our lag.

2. For some reason the box in my son's room is effected more by this than the one in the living room. The exbox in my son's room is the very first run which got the RROD about 2 years ago and was fixed. The one in the living room is the arcade version with HDMI. We can be in the same lobby and same game but I can hear her (arcade version) get in the game seconds before I am (original version) in the game.

That's all just local animation. Network conditions have nothing to do with the direction the gun actually recoils, thats all determined client side. I am 1000% certain on this.

The only possible differentiating factor I can think of could be a difference in input lag on your two displays, causing you to squeeze off more shots on one than the other.

My whole point was that the lag of individual things alone don't seem major, but when they all come together, it becomes noticeable.

Maybe the rapid fire is another issue? Thinking you should've won in a situation and you lose because they're cheating, and you auto think it's your internet or whatever? Mm.

That being said, it's still a pretty good gun and I managed to go positive with it overall.

it's a 50/20, but it's only a 50 up to 5 meters, which is about 15 feet. which is why you literally have to right on top of someone to get a 2 shot kill...

me personally, i'd rather use the MP5K with a silencer and extended clip, MAC11 with grip and extended clip, or the MPL with a silencer and dual mags. i know the MP5K isn't that great of a gun, but i've had some of my best 30+ kill TDM games with it, both silenced and regular. it's one of those guns that with the extended clip, you can actually kill up to 4 people at once without reloading or dying, which is rare for an SMG other than the AK-74U...

Played my final game of black ops ever this week: domination with Olympia, ballistic knife, tomahawk, flash bangs, claymore and lightweight/sleight of hand/tactical mask-- oh, and no killstreaks. Figured I'd go out in style! Then, when it was over, I cleared all my data, deleted my game/saves, packaged the game back into it's package... And lit it on fire. Yep. Trading it in wouldn't have given me the emotional closure I needed.

Thanks for the memories 3arc. Not.

Srsly tho, 3arc, go eff yourself.

Oh jammy, you bastard you. I'll miss you too, sweetie. I know you don't mean anything by your barbs-- after all, you calling me a troll is like one whore calling another whore a slut.
Give my hugs and kisses to the little one's!

Totally random question. I FINALLY upgraded my day 1 Xbox 360 (had been fixed 3 times for RROD). It was giving me disc drive errors and HDD errors every other day seemingly so I bit the bullet and bought a 250 GB Kinect system.

I am mainly playing Black Ops right now. I have a beast internet connection so I never really had much trouble with lag.....but with my new Xbox I could almost immediately tell COD was even more responsive. I wasn't even showing a full 4 bars connection but the bullets in every gun seemed to respond instantly. Is there any logical explanation for this? Was my old Xbox hardware actually slowing down my online connection somehow? I'm certainly not complaining, but had I known this I would have upgraded a long time ago!

I bought a 4GB Kinect bundle this morning, and I previously had a fat 360, so I'll be interested to see if I have the same experience!

Dunno about you guys, but 50 at close range is awesome for someone who can't knife for ****. I tend to shoot everyone, and knife only when the enemy is turned around. I believe I'm good at CoD, but fail horribly at knifing.

Also, MPL can't have dual mags... that's an assault rifle only attachment. Most MPL users use Silencer/Rapid Fire.

Try the Kiparis with Extended Mags. Fantastic.

I'm gonna try the MP5 again.... and see what combo of attachments I can use to actually make it worthwhile for me.

I have the same experience as you. My day one fat 360 seems harder to play than the new arcade version over HDMI. Not sure why though. The CAT5 cables are the same length but the HDMI cord for the new 360 is 25 feet long so I thought it might cause some problems but it is far more responsive than the old fat one using R/G/B or the PC input.

MPL is the only SMG that has dual mags.

Command actually played some BC2 this weekend. I could be mistaken but I think he was having fun! Command, Buc, Jammy, and myself had quite the win streak, and won the gold squad pin every match for quite some time. Not easy victories, but we had great teamwork and pulled it off each time.

You know what's missing from BC2?

Dubbin!

There's some shotguns with your name on them. And get this, SLUGS, so you can shoot people across the map with your shotty!
Shhhhhh I don't own bfbc2. What you talkin bout Willis? Yeah we wrecked them guys in that game as well, that's the only way I'll play if we have a squad of us. Shotguns way overpowered in that game, yup I said it, just cause they raped me. Great games bloppin as usual me pulling host all games sure does make it easy.
was good to be back playing some BLOPS on Friday. To bad the lag was so bad.
mighty i think it was because we were playing ground war which has always been like that next time ill break off and start a separate party to avoid that.

Kabob, sorry I didn't get on with you last night. I had sworn this game off permanently, but when I got your message I was ready to make an exception. But I had just gotten off for the night and my wife got a hold of me. Next time!

Normally I wouldnt care man. But Madden'12 should drop today, Gears of War in Sept, BF3 in Oct and MW3 in Nov.

Theres a good chance I'm buying all 4 of those games (Madden is already paid for).. so theres just no good reason for me to go out and purchase BFBC2 right now, with whats ahead.

this may be silly to you gents, but I did some changing to the dns portion in my router and on my Xboxes. We run 3 and often suffer some lag issues especially when my wife and I are playing together.

Anyway, I switched the router and the Xboxes to 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3.

What was laggy at first, after the switch was significantly better. Just thought I would throw that out. Will check again tonight.

There is no way that changing any sort of DNS or IP address settings can improve your latency.
