Good gaming last night fellas, thanks for letting me play with you all. Liked the first wager match, second one not so much ha-ha.

I had to welcome Lizard to the BLOPS party with a little bit of rambo action:

Fun stuff tonight guys, the wager matches were a blast.

Ha, nice! Yeah, fun games.

Lizard, good playing with you again. I think you'll fit in just fine with this rag-tag bunch of mofos.

Oh man, that kill had me cracking up so hard. I literally saw you for a split second, you disappeared, I figured you might have been shot, only to have you implant your blade into my cranium. All while going down in 4-5 seconds, if that hahahahaha, great kill for sure!

How bad did those other teams feel last night? Did anyone even score a point against us in those HQ matches? 4 or 5 straight SR-7's = People taking double doses of their meds!

Nope I don't think any of the opposing teams ever captured the HQ. Was pretty much a regular evening for voltron.
Play with us more often you'll see we do that pretty much every time we play. The wager matches are great though it's a lot of fun to get to kill you guys for a change. I love all the trash talk.

It gets a little tiring pounding team after team. Wagers are where it's at. Just sayin'.

Yeah, wager is a good way to challenge yourself against people you know without a doubt are skilled. Wish we would run into better squads in standard games...

Co-signed

And I'm not sure if it's because we're playing Core, but IMO there seems to be a lot more clans/groups like us playing in Hardcore modes. Again, just something I've picked up on.

I think part of it is that we play with 6 and we have a tough time getting matches, so it matches us with the bottom of the barrel. The games where we had less were the ones that were fine. As soon as we had 5 or 6, it was crap (except for the one game I hosted). I hadn't even mentioned that we had that bout of over 10 minutes where we could not find a game in any game mode. The night started off great, thought maybe I could get back into it, then it tanked hard

Kind of sucks that my choices seem to be to play alone or with only one or two people, or get a lot of lag. If it was "occasional" it would almost be alright. But 3 games out of 12 is too many. That's 1 out of 4 and is unacceptable. Some people can shrug it off and handle it a lot better, I just can't.

Either way, I stand by both MW2 and COD4 being better, both in and out of full parties. Hopefully MW3 is more like them.

Resurrecting from the dead to ask: "Well?"

I posted this over in MW3 forum by mistake... I'm all thumbs on this iPhone...

MW3 has done something I didn't think possible: it's made me reconsider my stance on black ops! I bought another copy during BestBuy's black Friday sale and have been playing it for the last week during what is now my second week away from MW3.
To be clear, I still think black ops is a step back from MW2 in a technical sense; but I'm now seeing the game with fresh eyes...
...Well, not FRESH eyes per se-- more like the sh*t stained eyes of someone whose expectations have been lowered to the point of "I'm willing to give you my hard earned 60 bucks if you kick me in the balls really, REALY hard!"

Now that MW3 has arrived and every 12 year old and c^nt on Xbox live is busying themselves finding the best ways to annoy the sh@t out of other players in that game-- I've found that blops is a much more pleasant place to play! At first, I thought this might be a fluke, that the infrequency of ghost/second chance users spamming RCXD's faster than I can google "Sasha Grey retires from porn" followed by a colon/parenthesis frown-ey face was just a freak occurrence of chance akin to the origin of life or Katherine Heigl's acting career. But after a solid week of play I'm ready to declare that black ops has been abandoned by the (majority) of the unwashed masses that were abusing her and that the game is now somewhat enjoyable to play! Even the lag is better now-- although that may also be a result of my lowered expectations thanks to MW3's atrocious lag comp issues.

I'm finding the balance between easy-to-get-but-effective low killstreaks vs it's-a-gamble-but-worth-it-when-you-pull-it-off high killstreaks a real interesting mechanic. I realize now how much I missed the cod points system that let's me buy what I want when I want! And I'm loving the plain-as-vanilla variety because at least it's somewhat balanced!

Overall, I'm liking black ops.... Yes, I said it. Now I guess I'll have MW3 to look forward to in a year when that game might become playable...

Blops will age well. Unlike mw2 and WaW, they didn't leave the game in a completely unbalanced and broken state. There are no super weapons and the streaks are manageable.

I havent MP'd on Black Ops at all really. Like somebody said above, I picked up my copy for the first time for 15 bucks at BB on Black Friday.

Comparing it to MW2s MP (which I'm also ranking up on - new gamertag - long story - no wasn't hacked and no didn't mod my past 360s), should I be investing my time into BLOPS?

I have to wait till after Xmas for MW3 (the whole Santa thing / kids), but from what I'm reading lag comp has to be patched anyway. So I'm fine w/ waiting for a playable version.

I think blops is unequivocally the better game than mw2, now that mw3 is out. IW and treyarch games have different styles, and mw3 is the better IW style game, with the exception that the maps are somewhat better in mw2.

I hate to say it, but they're just pay lip service that they're going to fix the lag. They can't - not to the extent that people are expecting/hoping. I see people raging about it in the mw3 thread that I cant post in, wishing I could explain how it's "normal" and calm the rage....but people probably wouldn't accept the explanation (believe me, I've tried with blops). Either way, the true "fixes" to the situations that people complain about are worse than the problem they're trying to fix, and they're not crazy enough to do those things. There are some minor things they could do, but it's more to do with matchmaking than netcode, and they come with their own baggage.

As far as I can tell, nothing has changed in mw3 over blops regarding netcode, other than people fixating on "lag compensation" as the problem and creating youtube videos about it, without actually understanding the fundamental problem. Lag comp has always been there since CoD 1, it's there in all of them. Because no one complained about lag in blops, right?

FWIW, the short time I played MP Blops I didn't experience any of those lag delays that I see on these videos. It was actually quite smooth - and I was paired up w/ people that were also ranked lowly (which was nice).

If you didn't notice it in blops (to the extent that it bothered you), you won't in mw3.

You also have to keep in mind that the way people group up on AVS (playing from all corners of the country) is literally the worst case scenario, and there's no good solution. If you're playing solo, you'll more likely to be paired up with people close by and have much fewer issues.

I played some MW3 on PS3 (the game took my new PS3 and fried the BluRay drive - why they only let you put ~50mb of the game on the REQUIRED PS3 HD is beyond me, but all for the better. The constant reading / seeking fried my PS3 so i sent it back to Amazon and got another 360. I'm so done with PS3's crappy iterations of both software and cheapened hardware. I really hate Sony). The game was a LAG FEST on the PS3 - I had all the issues w/ Lag on that console. Maybe there are more differences between platforms but I don't know.

The perception of lag in black ops is compounded by an inconsistent frame rate which can make it seem worse than it really is. Combine this with a selection of weapons that are weaker with greater and more random recoil than previous CoDs and you have a game with a vastly different 'feel'. I tended to favor the lightning death IW titles over the more deliberate play style required in black ops but I'm finding my tastes may be changing...

When I go back to MW2 now I'm amazed at just how much the power and recoil patterns of the guns help to make up for less than stellar aim. It's an accuracy vs precision statement: the guns in MW2 all fire a tight, centralized spread of [vectors] that aids your accuracy even if your precision (aim) isn't dead on.
Mw2 is all about who's first to the trigger. I'm generally very good at being first on the trigger but I'm not the best with my aim-- witness my sheer mediocracy in halo, a game which places an emphasis on steady, precise and consistent shot placement over the "spray and pray" approach which is so successful in CoD.

Overall I think the gunplay in MW3 is a good middle ground between MW2 and black ops-- think cod4 without stopping power. My one issue is IW effectively killed the recoil argument by including the kick proficiency which essentially makes all the guns behave like MW2: don't worry about short controlled bursts for long range just smother the trigger like a boss!

Okay, so I'm getting into this a bit more as I wait for Xmas and MW3.

Which are the generally preferred assault and SMGs? I don't want to waste my time as I have a lot of catching up to do !!!

The ak74u is the hands down favorite SMG.

The famas used to be the fav AR till it was nerfed. A lot like the galil now, I prefer the AUG, and the commando when I unlock it. And the G11 is an absolute beast.

Ak74u is definitely the fav smg in online matches (especially with grip and rapid fire) but I find the mp5, spectre/mpl to be just as good if not better depending on the situation. Te rest of the smgs are pretty worthless unless you equip akimbo or just want to mess around...

Famas is still beast as long as you stick sleight of hand pro on it. I prefer the AUG as bd said if for nothing other than it's less common-- the aug has a bit more recoil but it's more predictable full-auto.
As for the slower shooting ARs: galil and commando are the most popular. I really like the ak47 but there is no reason to go with it over the galil or command. Enfield is mostly ignored and so are the two semi-autos, m14 and fal. I have fun with the semis but you're handicapping yourself, fo sho.
M16 and g11 are both fantastic although I think most people would agree that the g11 is the better choice unless you NEED a red dot or silencer.
I was a big fan of the LMG class Stoner 63 w/ extended mags. It is a heavy gun so you move slower, but having 60 bullets per clip is nice. The recoil is also very manageable. The AK-74 and Aug were the two other guns I used. I agree with the others about the guns they posted.
AK and Galil for me... I had a dom class set up with the Famas though too. Damn, all this blops talk I may have to get a couple matches in

Has anyone played zombies in 3D?
I went back to Black Ops for a little visit.

WOW, this game is waaaaaaay easier, fluid, and clear after...

MW3s convoluted and maze-like maps (I still like 'em) and...

The tactical monster Battlefield 3.

Black Ops felt like a colorful trip to Disneyland (with killin').

I'm really enjoying BLOPS MP. Not a lot of rage for me in this game.
Yeah, as much as I like MW3, Blops still holds up damn well. Not a lot they did wrong with it...and a whole lot they did right. I'm not crazy about most blops maps either...but I think they're better than MW3s for sure. MW3 has much better weapons, streaks and variety though, but I prefer the pace, extra equipment slot and weapon feel of blops....sigh, can't have everything.

I don't know - I actually like most of the BLOPS maps more than MW2's .... except Havana. I HATE that map.
