I bought six bases and five sides and the rhinoplush fabric about a month ago. I don't clamp the bases together. Just the sides. The square blocks that the base legs go into will hold the bases together fine.
I also had to apply some force to get the some of the sides clamped to the bases. The covers definitely add some more material that tightens the fit.
