3d tvs and motion sickness

I don't know if this is the right forum to discuss this but it seemed like the most related

Apparently I suffer from motion sickness and it's brought on by watching 3d content. I was just playing 5 minutes of NHL 10 in 3d(a particular fast paced game which may have worsened it as I didn't experience it while watching avatar) and I feel very nauseous already.

is this something that you get used to and it goes away or am I going to have to return my nice new tv?

It probably depends on the game.. you could try lowering the depth and see if that helps.

Try ginger gum too..

But if movies are ok, then it may just be the quicker jarring motion in a game.

I tried playing Gears 2 after and also lowered the 3d depth from 5 to 2 and it didn't help

I shoulda known what I was getting in to I suppose. Same thing happened with the nvidia 3d vision on PC but I thought maybe a bigger screen might have less of an effect

I'm gonna try getting accustomed to it for a couple days at least. See if I can overcome it

Whats the refresh rate you are getting for each eye. It might not be motion sickness due to the 3D effect but eyestrain from too low a refresh rate. 60hz per eye, ie 120hz from the display seems to be the gold standard. To much below this and most people get eyestrain.

All first person shooters make me sick, I usually just keep playing and eventually it becomes tolerable. I've always wondered if there was something I could do.

Are you playing real 3D games or using that conversion nonsense? Makes a difference.

The best buy monsters vs aliens display made me sick after about 4 minutes. The nausea went away in about a half hour, but the headache lasted into the next day.

And regarding screen size - I think bigger screens will make you MORE motion sick than the small if it bothers you on a small. I'm no doctor, though.
