Mine was delivered yesterday. I plugged in my PS3, popped in a BluRay and it looked great right out of the box... I then spent 2 hours sitting in a dark room in front of it and manually calibrated every possible thing that tv offers to the best of my abilities. (gamma, tint, hue, color temp, hi's & lo's, brightness, contrast ratios, etc) I went back to each area and readjusted a number of times as well while I swapped out movies scenes.
i went through a couple dozen BluRay scenes with
TRUE colors
(not at all filtered for dramatic effect) paused good pics with the colors I was tweaking and adjusted the correlating calibration settings I was working in at the time.
(BluRays used: Dark Knight, Transformers, Wolverine, Body of Lies, Iron man and American Psycho)
Everything from faces, skies, flowers, deserts, cityscapes, water, prairies, mountains, fireballs, whites, blood, etc. It was a long process but the end result was WELL worth it and looks friggin' sweet... Until I have it professionally calibrated after a few hundred hours of usage, this configuration looks phenomenal...
(in my humble opinion)
If anyone is interested in trying my calibration settings, lemme know and I can either document them and send them to you directly or snap a picture and create a jpeg of each calibration section...
Don't be afraid to get in there and get your hands dirty by doing a lot of this manually just to try and play with it. Time, patience, intense attention to detail and general anal retentiveness pays off. If anything ends up looking off, just reset to factory settings. No harm, no foul. I am very pleased with the tweakings and this tv in general!
Enjoy the tv, everyone!!!
