I'm new to posting here but have been reading the forum for a while. Thanks for all the great info. Here's my problem. I have a 6187SAX/XAA and it's having the following issues. For a few weeks I would turn the set on and have some random color as the prominent one for the picture. RED was popluar, green sometimes, vertical lines and odd colors other times. After I would cycle the set once or twice it would be fine for the duration.
As time went by it got worse. It would come on but no picture and cycle off and back on by itself. Sometimes to a perfect picture and sometimes not. Again I could cycle it until it got happy.
Now I am missing red entirely. I have downloaded the service manual and used to service older CRT type TV's so I'm familiar with electronic troubleshooting to a fair degree. I have had the LED engine out to check connections and look for cold solder but nothing obvious yet. I have been thinking of buying the RED LED after all I've read but I'm wondering if there is something else going on that could have been responsible for the strange behavior I noted above. I would have thought that if it were just the RED LED I would not have experienced that stuff. I though I saw mention of 15VDC to each LED but can't recall where.
Also it seems that the volume may have diminished a bit.
Any ideas from you smart folks?
