The amp draws very little power when idle. None of these SpeakerPower amps (used in the Submersive, Cap, OS, etc) have a standby mode. Just leave it on.

I like it because you don't have to worry about whether the sub is on even when listening at lower levels.

I still use my other subs as fill (Epik Empire and two velo 12's) and the whole room feels really balanced. The OS's (and I'm sure other horn loaded subs) are really in another category...don't you think?

RMK, now that I have one OS it is hard to imagine using two, it must be unreal. Then again when i got my first sub I though that was a lot of bass too.

Oh one question for OS owners, mine did not seem to go into any kind of stand by mode last night. Does this unit need to be manually shutdown after use, is there a standy by mode or do you just leave it on?

thnx

Well I'm sold on horn loaded subwoofers and two is very real ... as in a visceral, deep, controlled bass output that never feels strained even on the most challenging material. Two of these is all anyone would ever need.

You bring up a good point in the compatability of the OS's and the T12's. They are a perfect match but they do require some space and power to really do their thing. I feel like I am running my system at about 25% capacity most of the time (not a bad thing).

That said, this is all very sub-jective .

Welcome to the HORN BASS club, OS is very good horn loaded sub and the whole as the package it is also active with excelent amplifier, it is hard to beat for the price and on the subwoofer market it is very hard to find horn loaded subwoofer because there is only a few companys they build them and those are mainly from pro world. The OS is not to big or to heavy there should to be more ID companys to offer them.

But compared to some other horn subs it is smallish.

Well there is another "smallish" sub on the horizion ...

Now I've met Mark and while I don't remember him being a particularly tall guy but these subs make him look like a Hobbit...
Yea, not to change subjects in this thread but the Terraform XL sure looks like it is huge sub and I hope to hear some feedback on it some day. But the OS sure does seem to be a monster in its own right(in performance and size). I will just settle for my svelt SubMersive HP.

Now, I just need to find a house with a dedicated room for my HT....

fight4yu, I too started with my first OS right next to my sofa firing along the wall behind it.......sounded good but i could localize it too much for my liking. It did shake the hell out of the sofa tho. Once I purchased the second OS i needed to change the location so I placed them along the right side wall about 4 feet from the corner stacked on top of each other with horn next to the wall. After I moved and calibrated them my room just came alive....no dead spots, just great bass from every seat. Placing them close to the corner made a huge difference in my living room. These are much too big to try and hide, so they have just become part of my room and sit right next to my popcorn machine.

It is good to see some of the more humble systems out there ...

But seriously, that is a balls out, high performance horn based audio system. No offense meant, but when are you getting a FP and a big AT screen?

Well, I just joined the OS crowd. I was going to order a second Captivator with the 4000w amp but changed my mind at the last minute to an OS. I can't wait to see how they play together.

WOW, Cap AND Orbit Shifter?? You could save money and get the same potenital effect if you just buy a helmet and shoulder pads and knock people on their butts when they stop by to listen to your system!! Seriously, congrats!

Great Jeff I like new Orbit Shifter LFU on dimension and going even some lower than OS LF. Does OS LFU amplifier support 220/230 V ? Do you ship now international ?

The new Orbit Shifter LFU is the same great Orbit Shifter LF but configured to be used upright to take up less floor space. The new dimensions are 50" tall, 22.5" wide and 32" deep however is optimised to be used side ways for a only 22.5" depth to fit behind most screen walls. Arbitrary level, with built in lowpass.

Link to JTR forum with OS LFU photos and frequency chart:

Just great
The new OS LFU is 18,51% volume biger than OS LF. 36000 inch3 vs 30375 inch3, that contribute to lower frequency.

Meaning the upright version? They were def built/finished in 2012...........just a couple of weeks ago. I didn't specifically order the OS LFU and I don't think these are but won't know til I crack em open. I wouldn't mind if they were.

Congrats Kevin, I hope you have a refrigerator dolly or something similar if you are going to move them yourself. I remember Jeff and I humping them up my long flight of stairs to the HT and Jeff's face got a little red. Of course, being a young guy he took the heavy end

Anxious to hear your impressions.

Kevin,
You are killing me, (2) OS's just waiting in the garage! I have a powered Cap with the 4000w amp and have either an: OS, S2, (2) S1's or even another Cap I will be getting in the next couple of weeks. I am just waiting to hear some reviews as well as assessing my listening area. Im just a little nervous about the size of the OS.

I may be moving in the next few months so I don't know how excited I am about moving that monster around. Does anyone know how much the S2 is going to weigh. Curse you Jeff, too many awesome options! Oh, forgot to say, have fun moving them areound and let us know what you think.

Hey Jason. I would just get another matching Cap if I were you right????

I'm in a small transition house now myself and can't really set up my full HT. I have a 2 channel rig in a small 11x10 room. I'll move the OSs in one at a time and hook them up just to make sure they are both working and then just leave one hooked up for now. I have my L & R T8 hooked up, my center T8 in the closet along with a pair of Single 8HT lps and a pair of M&K professional Surround200 tripoles. The M&Ks may get replaced with another pair of S8HT lp's if they don't play nice or the channel levels/sensitivities are too far apart. I think these particular tripoles are about 92dB sensitive when in tripole mode so we'll see. This will all end up in a dedicated HT so there won't be any placement or room concerns with the OSs.
Got them moved inside at least and somewhat dusted off. Most know how big these are by now but 2nd shot shows a good comparo with a T8, S8 lp, and an 8" Mirage ported sub in the corner..........these are HUGE!

You might try and make it up to Jeff"s Open House in Wisconsin on April 21st. He will have OS's as well as Captivators and speakers on display and for demo. Knowing Jeff, it will get loud

Just curious, does anyone have an idea how the inside looks like?
