I'm always worried my dog is going to crawl in there (he's pretty small). I'm sure he'd come out quick once the bass started hitting!

Ajax is a Jack Russell (i.e. smart) and has a healthy respect for the OS's. He gives them a wide berth.

Ajax. Great name for a dog. Still one of my favorite characters in Greek Mythology. I like the fact that no one else could lift his shield.

That's how the cap is too but I did get a chance to see how the insides look like when I took the amp out. I wondered if the OS has folds like a horn.

Yeah, it is a horn (14' horn path) and you can't really see much looking in the horn exit (even though it is huge) or the driver end. I can tell you it is if anything, overbuilt. Jeff has some pics on his site that show some detail.

I remember Danley sent me a schematic of the TH-SPUD (I was customer #1 for that product) and I made the mistake of posting the drawing on an AV site when asked a similar question. Within a week, DIY'ers were copying the design (unsuccessfully for the most part) so I can see why a designer would be reluctant to show much detail.

Make em buy one if they want to copy it ...

It's amazing how Jeff was able to fold a 18" sub in such a small foot print. Even the Cap is small for it's size. I haven't seen a ported 18" smaller then the Cap. If you remember the Conquest, it's almost twice the size. I have a sealed 18" epik dragon and it's 20x20 cube. The sealed cap is even smaller than that.
Ha, yeah the sealed Cap doesn't even look like a sub. It looks like a carrying case for an 18 inch driver. I just can't see how it has so much output... very impressive.

Yeah, the Conquest was huge. The small form factor is nice but at what cost? It will be interesting to see how the Cap 1000 does when Ricci tests it later this month .

That said, a couple of Cap S's would be nice to try out . Maybe I could sell the OS's to my local IMAX (they could use em ... )

Larry

I'm sure you are aware but you just missed them at Archaea's GTG.

I am getting closer to buying every day and the OS is still in the running. The catch with the OS for me is if I decide I need 2 subs for a more even frequency response the budget is blown.

Once I get my wall up I would like to do some measurements with my Rythmik F12 to see if I have a magical sweet spot where I could get by with just one OS.

If I pull the trigger you are welcome to take a listen.

Tim buy the orbit shifter, we already have caps and submersives in KC. That way if we throw another meet we have our bases covered! ;p
post #492 of 572
Thanks Tim, I appreciate the invite and would certainly like to experience this guy.

I have a couple remodel projects in the pipeline; once completed, I can in-turn invest some time in completing my modest HT.

I have Danley SH-50/SH-69 mains I can demo for those interested.

Hahaha, I say Tim should buy one of all subs offered by Mark and Jeff.

Sorry Grant

Ha.

I'm sorry Grant! That's my bad!

The Orbit Shifter really sounds like a great product; I'm also on the lookout for the DSL TH-50 - if I find a pair of these on the used market, game over

Just checking back with an OS update. It took about 3-4 weeks to get new crossovers and compression drivers for my T8s but that's finally done so I've had the system back up for about a week now. I have dual OSs running about 3dB hot. I've been able to listen to most of the LFE favs, at least the ones I own. Titan A.E., Master & Commander, FOTP, U-571, SPR, Clash of the Titans, Immortals, HOFD..........and just last night WOW, and The Haunting DTS. I've gotta say that the old Haunting DTS-ES track might just be my favorite for sheer, clean impact-full bass...wow!...........And older DVD DTS tracks still rock period.

I don't really know what to say that hasn't already been said but these subs barely flinch when thrown the most brutal tracks, and are very clear and precise when doing their thing. I've played these demo tracks in my MLP, and then replayed them while up and looking at the amp's signal lights and never even a clip flicker yet.......tons of headroom....especially with duals. Clash and Immortals were Blu discs, but everything else was DVD. I have a smallish Blu collection right now but need to start going through those

They are obviously big, big boxes but surprisingly don't feel their full 177lbs., and if you are on carpet, they are really easy to maneuver and place. I have a full JTR set-up and will eventually add 2 more S8-LPs too. I couldn't be more pleased with Jeff and his products and more than likely will never have anything else in my HT.

That's great Kevin. The old DTS DVD tracks were the best for bass. It's to bad these are being HP filtered on bluray but the OS's have so much output 15hz and up that for me, it really doesn't matter all that much. Your last sentence pretty well sums it up for me too.

RMK, what are some of the best Blu discs for LFE? What are you demoing most?

War of the Worlds(although the std DVD DTS was even better), Cloverfield, Knowing. The new Mission Impossible was pretty good and of course FOTF and Master and Commander are great. To bad you didn't pick up a copy of the Scuba Steve bluray demo disk before he got shut down. That is a great group of HD demo material and is my standard demo for HT neophytes.

This is a great reference. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1333462

Okay....cool discovery. My HT is currently in a temp spare bedroom....very small.....can't bring much seating in. So I bought one of those big beanbag loungers.....maybe 6ft. long......filled with recycled urethane furniture foam....very comfy. You sink down a tad lower than you'd probably like for viewing but it works in this scenario. The cool discovery is that it acts as a tactile transducer of sorts. The bass frequencies really transmit through the foam to give you a bass shaker effect......MUCH more so than a solid framed chair. X-men First Class was a different experience last night

I had a large bean bag like that and placed it on top of two Danley TH-SPUDS as a temp second row seating option a while back. It was quite a ride but two OS's in that sized room is just crazy regardless what you are sitting on .

Proving the point that there is no such thing as overkill when it comes to HT audio.

Great welcome to new home, I see that the house has good construction so there would be no problem with its integrity when you will punch Orbit Shifter, I think soon there will be another one OS to join the party smile.gif
