Major League-rs

Hey all, new here to the forum, glad I found it.

I'm brand new into the HT scene since I'm not racing bikes, I now have something new to obsess over. It all started by not being able to hear my flat panel well enough and the next thing you know.........

I've seen some of the set ups here on the forum, next to you Major League-rs, my initial set up is pretty caveman however, once my fiancee and I marry this year and move in together, I assure you (according to my gal), I'll have wall mounted items and in-wall hidden wires and cables.

I have no pics to post as of yet, but the system consists of this:

LG50PS30 (50" flat panel plasma), LGBD390 blu-ray, Onkyo TX-NR807 A/V receiver, Onkyo SKS-HT870 7.1 speakers with an additional Energy ESW-8SG 200watt sub-woofer.

This set up is in my bedroom which measures 11.5 x 11.5. The flat panel sets upon a tall narrow cabinet off the foot end of my bed, viewing distance is 9.5ft. Center channel located in front and beneath the flat panel, the two tall boys flank the flat panel, two height channels and two surround channels.

The receiver gets it's own shelf in the corner left of the plasma and blu-ray player is mounted just above the receiver. Both shelves here are drilled for X-tra ventilation however, I decided to line the underside of the blu-ray player shelf with foil to deflect heat that rises from the rear of the receiver

Everything is connected with A/V cables....J/K, HDMI in from blu-ray and then out to TV.

I'm a real novice in this feild but I've done tons of research prior to my purchases (and of course while trying to stay within a budget) and I'm continuing to learn more and more in this thing called electronics.

I've already seen where I'll benefit from the members here, thanks for your knowledge.

Well, my work certainly isn't that of a Rembrant. As much as I'd like to wall mount my plasma and front speakers and hide all wiring, my house is up for sale and I just recently aquired my HT a few months ago. I'll forego the detail work until I move in with my fiancee.

I am a bit surprised no one has had any input weather postitive or negative.

wow.... that almost makes me want to take another look at Onkyo stuff... pretty damn awesome for a bedroom setup

Onkyo is over "hyp". Only thing that makes it sound good are room treatments and the speakers.

Must. Resist. Commenting. On. Wire Management.

Gah, that was hard. Anyway lookin' good man. How do you like the LG BD player? Do you use any of it's extra features or just BD?

I can appreciate a bedroom system. Ease of use, plus after you're done watching a movie you can go right to sleep lol. Thanks for sharing man, keep us up to date on any changes you make.

No offense, but I don't want to watch a movie with you at your place.

None taken, we're certainly not that acquainted yet

Besides, with my bachelorhood coming to end, my fiancee is the only one that chills with me at my place

In the end I'm gonna pick the chic any day anyway.

Pretty good for a temp setup.

That stand under the plasma looks a little week to me. I'm surprised it holds the weight of a plasma, does it move at all if bumped?

Dude, I checked out your system, before and revised. Very nice indeed, lots of hi-tech goodies. Just one question, uhhh, where are the wires???

Wall mounted is truly what I'd prefer. The stand is surprisingly stable. I also mounted shelves to the sides which support the two tall boys. My two year old daughter has her own library in there and is constantly putting the thing to the test. I had considered bracing it to the wall but after testing it myself, I'd have to linebacker it to get it to fall.

Well, it's been nearly a year and I have some new photos to share with you.

I've exchanged the SKS-HT870 system for PolkAudio Monitor SII 70's, 40's, 30's, a CS2 and an Epik Empire.

Also new to the fray, is an Emotiva XPA-3. I've constructed my own shelving and racks, my old system was in my old house/bedroom prior to marriage and now in my wife's rental currently set up in our bedroom here.

We should be able to buy our own home hopefully in a year to a year and a half and then we'll have our designated HT room, but for now........thank you for viewing.

Oh yeah, my wifes biggest complaint is that we don't have nearly enough "L" brackets in our room.
