LG PK750 - Samsung PNC8000 - Panasonic G25

I went to Ultimate Electronics last night all set to buy a Samsung 50PNC8000 and just needed to view it with the wife. They had it set up on one of their featured displays and everything looked stunning...but...the picture seemed almost fake; it had this 3d appearance except it seemed like everything was in flat planes at different depths. It is hard to explain but it just didn't look natural; it looked maybe too crisp?

I didn't say anything and after about 5 minutes my wife turned to me and said exactly what I was thinking. We then looked at the Panasonic G25 and this looked much more natural...but...it had a little more "grain" in the picture if that makes sense. It wasn't as crisp.

Does anyone else notice this with the PNC8000? I am wondering if the C6500 will be better since it is not a 3D set; the salesman said the affect on the C8000 is due to the 3D nature of the panel. I don't think this makes sense since it wasn't 3D source material.

I haven't been able to look at the LG's yet in person; I love the look of the Samsung design and the thinness. Honestly the black levels were fine for me and I am coming from a Sony Vega 36" CRT (non HD) so anything is going to be an improvement. Any advice from people who have compared these sets in person or at least understand what I am describing?

Whatever you saw can be turned off in the settings. It sounds like you are describing frame interpolation which is a feature of Samsung LCD's. Are you sure the C8000 you were viewing was the plasma? Did it have a silver bezel?

I am pretty sure it was a plasma; it did not have a silver bezel. The bezel was a brushed black look (not glossy).

I am not sure it had anything to do with motion since it was there even during shots with little to no motion; could this still be turned off?

the pnc8000 has a feature called motion judder canceller which basically gives it the same soap opera look as the lcd's, this can be turned off plus it probably was on dynamic mode which makes every color extremely saturated an unnatural

Perfect answer to what you were seeing. It's ridiculous for a plasma to have frame interpolation, but it helps them sell to those drawn to the unnatural look so...

The C7000/C8000 is a fantastic looking display. Despite having a less than ideal MLL, a properly adjusted one has some of the best PQ you're going to find in a 2010 panel. I could do without the whole touch-sensitive button thing, but the bezel is so damn attractive. It's more aesthetically pleasing to me than my 101FD. (love the minimalist frame, hate the piano black finish, could care less about thickness)
