Green glue worth it???

You guys think green glue is worth it?

I mean $1500 is kinda expensive.

Would just a double layer of sheetrock be ok ???

Hi. I see you've ressurrected quite a few old posts.

You might have a look at the independent test data for actual performance measurements. They're available online. Comparing raw drywall vs. same wall, however with various acoustical materials. That might help with your inquiry.

As far as worth it, I'm sure others will chime in at some point.

No substitute for Green Glue! Non.. Nada.. Not quiet glue, quiet rock, soundrock, greenrock, nothing!

There is so much data it's incredible. Independent results have it hands down. 2 layers of 5/8" Drywall with at least 50% coverage of GG and you WILL be very happy.

"Worth it" depends on what your goals are. What are you trying to accomplish with your room?

If you're just looking for a low to moderate level of soundproofing (either into or out of the room), then throw up one layer of 5/8" drywall over some insulated walls and be done with it.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, if you're looking to prevent ANY sound from entering or leaving your room, then you'll need to go with wall isolation clips, hat channel, insulation, double 5/8" drywall, and Green Glue. Anything less and you won't be satisfied.

Personally, I feel that I can accept SOME sound into and out of the room, so I decided to go with hat channel on the ceiling only, staggered stud walls, glass fiber insulation, and one layer of 5/8" drywall with a solid core entry door. That's better soundproofing than most of the rooms in the rest of the house, so I think I'll be satisfied with the performance I'll get. Besides, if I ever want to add more drywall and green glue, I can do it later if I am really dissatisfied with the soundproofing in my room.

But some people do nothing at all, with one layer of 1/2" drywall and they're satisfied. It all depends on what you want to get out of your room when it's done.

I think you need to bump a few more 2-3 year old threads before we can give you our opinion.

Another thing to consider is posting a design thread. Give us a few drawings of what you are thinking of, what your constraints are, and where you are heading. You obviously have some enthusiasm for the hobby, but if you are working on a layout and you'll be stuck with the stairwell in the room, or a drop ceiling - then your sound isolation budget should probably be scaled back. If your room is going to be right beneath your children's room - then maybe it would be a good idea. That kind of thing.

You seem to be asking very broad questions (is GG worth it, who has the best theater). Unfortunately the answer is almost always "it depends".
