Hdr-cx500v

I recently got an amazing deal on an HDR-CX500V as an open box from Best Buy.

Got it home, and found out that the LCD screen doesn't work.

Anyone ever have any similar experiences with camcorders?

I'm pretty computer savvy, but I've never really messed with Camcorders...any suggestions on where I should go from here?

Thanks! =)

Assuming this isn't a simple "battery not charged" issue, I'd go straight back to Best Buy. They shouldn't put anything out for sale that patently doesn't work unless they're a lot more unethical than I think is the case.

But it is possible they boxed it with the battery discharged or that it has discharged totally if sitting there for a while. If you have plugged it in and opened the LCD with the power on from a socket and it doesn't work, then it is indeed broken.

I'm kind of hoping it's a simple fix or buying a new LCD or something...I ended up getting it for $270, so I'm going to attempt to fix it, haha.

Thanks for the input though!

Best Buy won't charge you the 15% restocking fee on an open box item, you have 14 days to return it

Wow. If you get a working CX500 with all its parts for $270, that's a fantastic deal.

Particulary a great deal if, as most "open box" items, it may still have the OEM warranty. However, if the damage is a result of dropping or something other than what can be linked to manufacture defect....the warranty issue may be complicated.

I'm considering trying to see if it's a loose wire or something internally...anyone ever try busting one of these things apart?

Wouldn't the warranty from Sony cover it? Probably worth a try.
